**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S20 Family Thread ****

There's £150 cashback on (apparently all) S20 models for Quidco premium members at Curry's.

Assuming it pays, that makes the 'base' model a much more palatable £649.

(I got this from hotukdeals).

A very nice vid but Tbh i am more worried/consirned about the scratch you mentioned, I hope it really doesn't scratch that easily? and does it come pre installed with a screen protector at all ?

That scratch is a bit concerning, however, the people in the video didn't seem interested in trying to find out what might have caused it. Was it stuffed in with keys in a bag? Other sharp objects? Or did it happen when they grazed it across something when not recording?

Unless they start making phones from harder materials than glass (and I don't care what edition gorilla glass it is), they're going to scratch when they come into contact with hard grit, keys, belly button fluff etc.

A question to people who are going for the ultra like me. what case are you going to use if any ? are you going to use a screen protector or tempered class protector ? will you be using a camera lens protector ? tempered ect. I am just curious as soon i will be doing my search for one.

I'm not going for the LED case this time but the one with the clear section.

I bought the clear view cover for my s10 note, lovely case but its curved clear bit is what damaged the pre-installed screen protector, so you might want to get a closer look at the s20 clear cover before commiting.

I have installed a whitestone tempered glass protector on the screen and gone for a simple bumper case this time.

From what I can see on s20 vids of the clear view cover it looks like a better implementation and should be OK.

So I just got my hands on an S20+ demo and S20 Ultra dummy. First thing is that to hold is way easier than I expected, the size was fine for my small hands and I'm coming from an S8. The difference in size between then + and Ultra is minimal too. If you can hold one you can hold the other just as easy.

Now the big thing I wanted to check was the screen. I was undecided if I would use 1080p 120hz or 1440p 60hz. I tested both and wow the 120hz is a seriously big difference it makes the whole experience so much nicer. I know what I will be using now!

I keep asking when this pops up - what was the UI smoothness like at 120hz in your opinion? Was it super-smooth and then juddery when something loaded in the background before resuming at super smooth? Or was it smooth all the way?

My persistence in asking is because I was looking forward to the OP 8. I used the 7T Pro and liked the lack of UI jerkiness in conjunction with the 90hz, but ended up keeping the Note 10+ instead. I'd be interested in the stock S20 at £649 (see cashback deal above) but can't bring myself to believe that 120hz will have resolved Samsung's judderiness woes. So the more eye witness reports, the better.

I only used it for a few mins but I was swiping away through menus and apps and the whole thing was buttery smooth and responded instantly to everything. I was quite shocked just how much better it felt in 120hz compared to 60hz

It is glass but on top of it is the plastic bendy layer that stops the glass from breaking when the thing is folded and unfortunately that's what is showing marks.

Samsung are running with the marketing on this and calling it glass without mentioning the plastic layer on top much like how monitor and TV makers call their LED backlit TVs "LED" with no mention of said LED being the backlight only.

The Flip doesn't even have a glass layer. Someone did tests and found you could punch straight through the plastic and damage the OLED panel, which you couldn't do through a glass layer. Samsung are just straight up lying.

new plan for me!

wife can get discount through work for pc world, should make the S20+ £800 spread over 12 months, shall keep my current sim.

Shall definately be buying a cover even though i hate them, after smashing my S8+ im not risking it again.

I tried an ultra in the Samsung store in surrey quays yesterday.

120hz all the way, you can't tell the difference in resolution at all but the refresh rate is night and day, honestly makes it feel so snappy.

I guess i and probably other people want to know if it will be possible via a update to go full res 120hz at some point. if it is indeed a battery concern i think ti should be left to our choice id rather have 120hz and full res and take a battery hit.

Samsung probably don't want their new phone getting panned in early reviews by testers doing their best to 'prove' how bad the battery is when all the screen bells and whistles are turned on. I personally can't see much difference between 1080p and 1440p on a phone screen, but agree that the user should have control over it, assuming it's not a hardware issue.

I’ll be using the uag plasma like I do on all my phones great grip lightweight and I’ve never had a phone break from tons of drops even over 20foot face down. Never used a screen protector ever and never broke a screen.
