Whitestone dome. End.

£50!!!

Phone is going on eBay, she's really not getting along with it, she doesn't want to use it without a screen protector and I'm certainly not paying £50 for one!, She hates the in screen finger print scanner, really slow, and worst of all the lift to wake feature on this phone is mediocre at best, half the time it doesn't even come on, and when it does it's very slow to recognise her face, her cheapy Honor 8x recognises her face instantly, even off angle.

Bite the bullet and got an s20 fe. I like it but battery seems very meh. Only had it for a couple of days but I thought the battery would last longer. Even put the screen on 60 mhz.
Charge to full now at 15:46 with light to medium usage and already down to 30%

Unusual. My fingerprint scanner is pretty fast and works every time. I still have the screen protector on it that came with the phone. 3 months in and its still fine.

My battery has behaved pretty well compared to what I was expecting, especially coming from a OnePlus and I've been using it pretty hard as I've been up with my 1 week old most nights.
I took the phone off charge at 7pm or so on Friday and it conked out at 1am this morning. Charged up again fully by 2am (courtesy of the 25w brick) and I'm currently on 54%. Unfortunately I can't provide any SOT as the battery app is still learning my usage.

1) Smart lock, you can have it unlocked in specific places all the time
2) The Honor probably isn't looking too close
3) Register the same thumb in 2 or more slots and it's normally lightning fast
4) It came with a screen protector already on it, curved screen protectors are either the whitestone baked on type, crappy film or the ones you said that stick round the sides.. part of the compromise, personally I pulled the preinstalled one off immediately and forgot about it, no scratches. But if its ever going in a handbag it probably needs one

I mean, horses for courses and all that but I find it hard to believe a cheapy Honor is better for anything other than familiarity.

lol, probably some truth there to be fair, obviously the S20 is leagues ahead of the Honor, but it's finger print sensor was a lot quicker, as you are probably already aware ultrasonic sensors are not the fasted, she only had to tap her old one, this one you have to rest thumb on it a bit longer.

I'll try the smart lock out and register her thumbs twice, I've turned the AOD display for her so she knows where to place her thumb which she said helped, I have a few TPU (arghhhh!) screen protector's coming tomorrow, I'm sure I'll have fun trying to put them on!, she's stuck with it for at least a week so see how she gets on with, I'm hoping by then she might've gotten used to it, if not I'll just order her iPhone and be done with it.

Exynos?

Do the multi registration thing trust me... Think about how many digits you would normally unlock.with. I think I've got my right thumb registered 3 times with all sorts of odd directions and it's super fast now.

There's a hack to speed it up that's worth googling too.

Yes but surely it can't make that much if a difference? I know the snapdragon is better for battery

Yeah it kinda does. Snapdragon is far superior for battery. I think it's something like 20% on the newer chips? Might be thinking of speed though. I would get the 5G version simply because you can get SD without having to import.

Hmm will give it a couple more days (I could be using it more than I know being a new phone) i still got 12 days for the so called 14 days retue policy..

Same reason I've still not used my S20 yet and don't really wanna fork out £50 for Whitestone. If you find a good alternative, please let me know.

What is wrong with the one it comes with? i have been using that since I got my ultra and seems fine. from what I have seen most of the tempered ones are crapy because they have to have a hole cut out for the fingerprint reader on the screen. that would drive me nuts. the whitestone is the best if you want the best protection for your screen. its the price of a new screen vs the price of the dome vs insurance I think tbh.

Had the S20+ 5G for over a week now (imported from HK so Snapdragon model) and it's been such an amazing experience so far.

Getting 7-8 hours SoT comfortably on average and more importantly to me there is no battery life issues that I faced in the past with Exynos models.

Losing 3-4% overnight over a course of 7-8 hours is/was simply unheard of on the Exynos variants.

So far a great experience and lining up to be the best Samsung phone I've ever owned.

Last phone I dropped, screen smashed. So I'm a bit more paranoid now.

I found the key to face recognition especially with lift to wake is to register you face in as close to the position you pick and use your phone as possible. Don't hold the phone straight out in front of you horizontally (unless) that's normally how you use it.

Mine is lightning fast

Yep, my face unlock is lightning too. In fact it's so quick that I sometimes have to hold the phone away from me if I just want to quickly glance at a notification without unlocking.
I know I can turn that feature off but I use it more often than not.

Just to add to this thread that I had to go back to my Note 9 for a couple of weeks the other day. It really showed how good the S20 Ultra has become.

Constant software updates have incrementally improved the phone since I got it near launch and it's absolutely fantastic now.

Camera focus is more than good enough and the pictures it can produce are amazing.

It never slows down, never crashes and the screen urinates over anything else I've used.

I wasn't massively impressed at first but if the snapdragon is significantly better than my Exynos now in day to day use then it must be amazing.

In addition to registering the same thumb/finger multiple times, another thing I would add is to turn off 'screen transition effect' in 'Biometrics preferences'.
