**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S22 Family Thread ****

sounds like software if it goes away in certain modes, who'd pre-order something with a completely new chipset rather than an evolution of something old eh :D

I suppose I can't complain, I pre-ordered a completely brand new PC upgrade on a new CPU architecture and new mobo chipset purely on gut feeling alone, but that worked out great so there is that :D

Phone works well for me, somewhat underwhelmed but I think that's more to the fact it's a slight upgrade to the s21 ultra.

Better then the Pixel 6 Pro but not massively, I think this shows where we are at now with mobile technology, we've hit the barrier from a features perspective.

I'm just going to make this last now for a few years and be done with it.

If you haven't upgraded for a while then a nice jump without a doubt

It will be cameras the next arms race for mobile tech. Samsung have their 200MP camera module which is released but the first phone to feature it won't be a Samsung it seems. It's all going to be a game of optics now, the clearer the lenses the higher resolving power the sensors can achieve. Control those glares and you get much better HDR and more accurate EV metering and more light can hit the sensor which means better low light shots and faster action capture.

The hardware inside is certainly there now and I wish they would stop chucking in 8K 24fps, what an absolutely pointless feature to even exist. Not only is it very limited in dynamic rangem but the metering is choppy and focusing is slow. 8K will also be hugely useful for the 12 people who actually own an 8K TV :p

Make the shutter take a snap the second you even breathe on the button through better optimisation, and make the OIS work even better so there is no curtain sliders when panning in low light because that still exists on the S22 from videos people have posted online although it is better than previous Galaxy phones.

I think we are nearly there, the 30x zoom quality is a night and day difference to the S21 Ultra for example, actually usable hybrid zoom at 30x and the white balance and HDR appears to be refined further too and more accurate. This means with the next few updates the camera should get even better still.

My ultra is borked. Locking up all over the place, even on the factory setup screen after a reset. Time for a swap out.

It's all about the camera's though which I'll test on my sister's over the next few days. That'll be the decider.

My sister's one, touch wood is fine so far.

Had mine out the box now for a couple of hours.

Massive upgrade from S10+, as I knew it would be. I'm not seeing any slow downs or lag, blazing fast in Chrome and Google Photos. The adaptive 120hz refresh rate is brilliant when scrolling, so smooth!

This is hands down the brightest screen I've ever seen on a handheld device. It's going to be great for using with my drone outside in bright conditions.

Battery was definitely draining fast, but I was running a few installs and hitting a large WhatsApp media restore. It's since settled down.

The camera is very good out the box, portrait mode looks brilliant. Took some RAW files using Export RAW app in an unfavourable, unbalanced lighting environment and imported in to Lightroom. The RAW files are surprisingly malleable!

Zero complaints so far.

That's what I've been waiting to hear, the RAW shooting. IIRC these are 16bit RAW files so the dynamic range will be immense. I cannot wait to put it to the test with my LR custom colour grades.

I am so tempted to have the phone mounted on top of my DSLR for a wedding shoot coming up and shoot a mix of phone and DSLR side by side and process them the same in LR and see what it is capable of.

I think you'll also be impressed mrk. I've never seen anything like this from a phone sensor before. 3 stops of under exposure looks to be easily recoverable, likely even more. I'll try and do some more tests tomorrow, too tired tonight.

Galaxy store is required to update Samsung apps. If you get rid of it you will remain on outdated system apps.... So do not remove Galaxy store.

As far as I can see all the Samsung system apps are on the play store. When I denied to login the Samsung store it updated all the apps anyway.

Samsung cloud, gallery, my files, notes secure folder etc etc all on play store. As it should be.

Not all Samsung or system apps are on play store, or if they are, won't get updates from play store (at least not at the same time). Good Lock being a prime example, I can see an update pending on Galaxy Store right now but it is nowhere to be seen on Play Store, the same applies to any Good Lock modules you may have installed. GL is a core part of customising any Galaxy phone with more advanced features so is also a recommended part for any semi-power user or someone with a passing interest in customising too so worth checking out.

Having updates via a second store is annoying I agree, but that's the way it is, plus it uses no additional resources that impacts performance in any way so it's just one of those small niggles really.

Good to hear, looking forward to checking this out!

That's fine with me. I tend to use Google's suite of apps, all apart form the S-pen specific ones.

Yep tried Good lock, anything note worthy lately? Didn't see much use for it last time I installed it.

Looks like Expert RAW is Samsung store only. There's that.

For Good Lock I am using:
Home Up (customised the share sheet, folders etc)
Routines + (addon to Bixby Routines)
QuickStar (increase the density of quick panel toggles and stuff)
One Handed Operation + (really good and adds a lot more scope to customisable gestures to the Andorid 12 back/fwd edge navigation gestures)
Sound Assistant (volume panel theme and feature changes)

There is Nice Catch too where you can browse previously swiped away notifications incase you swipe one by accident.

I am getting some random stutters/jitters, almost as if the phone is slow to apply variable refresh rate.

anyone had this issue?

p.s using that spigen charger its showing as super fast charging, can’t remember but someone asked earlier about this

I used Smart Switch to transfer all my apps but it hasn't kept the login details etc, is it meant to? Kinda wish I'd done a clean install instead now.

Your login details are held by Samsung Pass, which is part of your Samsung account, and should use your biometrics etc

^^ not always, Samsung Pass is only used if you've actively been using it, otherwise the Autofill service for app logins etc will be whatever you have been using, for some that might be Chrome, other Google, for me it is Firefox as all my logins for everything are stored in the Firefox system which synchronises across the board on all my devices using biometrics:
