**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S22 Family Thread ****

Sold my s22 ultra. The performance was shocking. I was prepared to sacrifice the high cost of the device and the weight for the spen but the performance was way beyond what I expected. I know it's subjective but for someone like me, who uses the phone for work and play the performance drop was too much.

What have you gone from?

Mine did this also, it allowed me the option to proceed anyway and upload a screenshot of the IMEI details from the phone.

Nice just did that and all processed and within minutes got a message saying accepted. Buds Pro arriving within 45 days. Will slap them up on marketplace the same day :p

As for the phone, all up and running now, took a bit setting things back up in all banking apps etc, Samsung Pay+ set back up too and had an email saying they are sending me a new physical Pay+ card which is strange as I already have one. best not have changed the virtual card number...

Also seems Super Fast Charging 2.0 isn't locked to Samsung chargers only, so previous chat about Samsung being naughty here was unfounded. I'm using the Anker FLow 3 cable with the Nubia Redmagic 7's 65W PPS charger and getting:

Nice.

Also LPT, set the EQ in sound settings for the speakers to this, the sound is vastly improved with better bass response and a cinematic presentation. Keep Dolby Atmos set to Auto.

Also, the camera zoom quality is next level. I'll give the cameras a proper test over the weekend and post up proper pics.

Just received an email from DPD to say my phone, which was said to be due for delivery Saturday, is arriving Monday.

Grrr. Grumble. Grumble. Grumble.

Interesting observation, on wired charging, gently rub your finger along the frame, you can feel a very light electrical buzz as you do this. I get the same with some laptops that have aluminium/metal content in their chassis. Really weird. Obviously a non issue but just a quirk I noticed. Doesn't happen when wireless charging.

Have you used them? If so, what do you think of the quality? I plan on keeping mine as a backup or possibly just selling. I already had the Buds plus and Jaybird Vista 2 which is used as my primary.

I had them from the pre-order from my s21 ultra: They are really good ...But there is a but. just hope you not allergic to the materials they have used in the build. i did they gave me a double ear infection and hundreds of other people also. if you are lucky they won't affect you. As i said shame as they are a really good pair of buds bar that.

The Buds Pro are only really good when paired with memory foam ear tips, the stock tips I found too small so a seal was not created and they tended to drop out the ear. And I have small ears so no idea how others get them to stay put.

Not here as I use twitter and other social media. I did uninstall the MS Office apps though and a bunch of others. Disabled a handful of others like Chrome.

I just tried these on my Note 9 as that's got dual speakers and Atmos.

It certainly sounds a lot better in the sense it's far less harsh but certainly quieter, do you find that on the S22 Ultra?

Granted the tuning probably isn't the same but curious about it.

I've not noticed it being a lot quieter have to say, was the same on the S20. It is balancing out the mids and flattening the response as by default the mids where the vocals often sit are way too high up and harsh, this equalises the whole range and you get nice bass, clear highs and neutral mids which works really well with Atmos left on Auto. The loudness is still very loud I have found.

It could well be a tuning thing as the Note 9 is left behind on Android 10 and OneUI 2.5.

Also my hearing isn't very good anyway so perhaps the "raw" power from the harshness makes it sound louder.

There's no denying that your settings sound much cleaner though, do you use any program to tune the EQ or is it by ear?

Do you also run anything for personalised sound?

Just by ear. My hearing is actually far greater than my eyesight, which is kinda funny as I am a photographer :D I tend to be able to hear things most cannot, like the faint whine differences between phone charger adapters from several feet away.

Also worth noting that when you set up an EQ, OneUI will remember that EQ for that output device, so if you set it when no bluetooth speaker/headphone etc is connected, then it will apply it to the speakers. When you connect some earphones, you can then set a new fresh EQ for those and it will remember.

I don't listen to music on the phone any more (WFH) but when I did I used Adapt Sound to tune the output to my ears and IEMs specifically. Again the same applies here, Adapt Sound will remember what device connected you are tuning, then remember that. Whne you disconnect your earphones, Adapt Sound will go into standby until they are connected again.

I had JayBird X3s and had a custom EQ set up within the JayBird app as it sent that EQ direct to the earbuds so I could listen with my EQ on whatever device I was paired with at the time. So essentially it went like this for my setup:

1: Set up Adapt Sound in the phone with the earphones connected.
2: Set up an EQ in your earphone maker's app if available, otherwise use the Samsung EQ to do the same thing.
3: Have the above posted EQ for the speakers only so you get better fidelity from the phone speakers.

It all just kinda works flawlessly after that point really.

Edit*
4G and 5G speeds are faster on this than on the S20 5G by up t 200Mbps on 5G. 4G I've had it that fast before easily though, so the new 5G radio seems to hold a stronger signal for sure.

I took a couple of photos as is tradition when I get a new phone:

I then flicked through some old photos and have to say the S22 Ultra reminded me a lot of the Xperia Z3 I had back in the day. The minimal/clinical look with a splash of colour in key areas and sharp cut corners keeping the form going. I do miss that phone...

I'm happy enough with this now that I've just arranged collection of the S20 trade in. Sending via RMSD as not taking any chances with it going missing/damaged etc.
