I'm getting confused which update people are referring to.

Are you talking about this one?

Yes, the AVC6 update.

Thats the most recent, improves performance quite a bit especially for games.

BUT I'm hoping one of the added overall satbility updates will also include the compass and GPS.

I drove to work this morning, the GPS worked and Android Auto worked well as the GPS from the phone was passed through.

I'll test it throughout the week and report back.

I'm not sure there will be any real improvements to games. AVC6 just adds the ability to turn GOS off, but in anything remotely demanding it only leads to worse numbers.

AS far as i am aware the gos app reduces framerates etc of certain apps and games etc. to prevent overheating etc. But in reality, turning this off just allows the phone itself to do the same thing. and reports that are going arround say it's kinda pointless anyhow as the sustained performance will be worse due to heat ect ?

That isn't how GOS really works. While it is a performance management system, it isn't a simple throttling mechanic. It combines a TDP target with a per application profiled scheduler. That last part is particularly important as it improves efficiency. For example, when you run a game which has been profiled, GOS knows how much of a CPU/GPU load it will be and it adjusts kernel scheduler settings in the background to try and maximise performance within the power target.

This is why when people where spoofing Geekbench as Genshin Impact to show how 'bad' GOS was it was just plain silly. GOS knows Genshin Impact is a very heavy GPU load, so it tries to hold the CPU clusters back to save as much power as possible for the GPU. That *is* better for the game, but once you start spoofing application IDs you break the logic.

Golden reviewer did a new GOS test which shows the exact behaviour you'd expect. With GOS off for the first 2 minutes performance is higher (and power consumption is doubled), but once the device thermally throttles the interesting data starts. For the remaining 8 minutes both GOS off and GOS on get the exact same frame rate, but GOS on delivers that performance at a lower average power draw. That's what an application specific scheduler gets you - maximised efficiency. You want that :)

Had this on since last night and must say my battery appears to be getting hammered more, I don't play mobile games.

Hopefully it settles down over the next few days, was fairly happy with performance etc before so this will annoy me if they've screwed battery for performance for everyone

For the Disney+ promo, I clicked on redeem but didn't add an email. I went back and clicked redeem and it says already been redeemed but also asks for email. Is the code still active or not?

Samsung promised an email update by COP today with an updated ETA due to delay but shock horror....no e-mail....:(

Although it's one of those things - stuff like this starts to take the shine off things somewhat.

Had an email saying Samsung have now received my S20 trade in. Just waiting for confirmation it all checks out but so far so good.

tempted to trade in my s20 plus. I have a few cracks on screen, can’t feel them and can’t see them if there is content on phone. EE will give me £300 so £56 a month unlimited calls, txts, 100gb data, can upgrade after 15 days but have to pay upgrade fee when trade phone in and get Netflix, bt sports and few other things I can chose from so seems a good deal and the earbuds that they say are worth £200 not sure if they are really worth that much

i have s20 plus on upgrade scheme so next month I can give phone back and upgrade or pay £160 and keep the phone but if I returned it I would have to fix the screen I imagine while EE will take it. Just worried how quick the value of the s20 plus will decline and if cracks on screen get worse
