So, will they finally break with tradition and come out with a properly crafted product that feels every bit as expensive as it is?

Or will we get another piece of plastic junk with fantastic tech specs to hook all the people who have no interest in quality?

Guess we'll find out soon...

It isn't just the colour scheme/white that annoys me, but that they have literally butchered the placement of some stuff deeper into android now i.e. the settings menu, you have 4 tab things at the top:

I didn't even notice that, the white was too busy blinding* me. Why would I/you/anyone want four tabs at the top? :|

*alright I'm exaggerating a tiny bit.

If BMW made a phone... :D

^^ Stupid indeed! Just why?

No idea :( And here we where thinking htc were the only ones that make utterly stupid decision with the software i.e. battery :o

GALAXY S4 officials said still there will be a variety of colors, the time we got off-white version, the fuselage is dark, the back cover is gray. Compared to the previous generations of products the S4 the front fuselage design can be said is a very unique, special dark spots groove design, this design had i9000 Armani Edition (Giorgio Armani) We have seen a similar design . (Armani is defined for this design is the Night sexy, elegant and charming, wild but never kitsch) design continues throughout the front of the fuselage, does make Samsung the S4 looks more "premium", and significantly improved a notch .

The design and materials of the side of the fuselage is a major highlight of this Samsung Galaxy S4. Side is still using plastic border, but they have added a brushed metal coating, metal looks very sense that in fact how to do? We also tested.

Unfortunately, the Galaxy S4 indeed use the plastic with a sharp object test, we found very easy to hang out scratches, abrasion resistance is very general. Taking into account last year, S3 is also similar material, we can not help but worry about the future, whether paint chips or cracking.

The material point of view, the back cover of the Samsung Galaxy S4 still use plastic, but the good news is in the back cover of this year's S4 polished many micro-dot lines coincide with each other, and before the front panel of the dark dot looks quite beautiful from a visual point of view, the hand touch does not feel the sense of plastic, Samsung in plastic processing is indeed something to admire, due to the plastic, but do not like the plastic feel. This is relative S3 S4 in the post, the Note2 as well as many other Samsung products cover a promotion.

However drawbacks still there. The entire back cover is very soft, a little harder you can see the curvature, it is inevitable to seem very cheap, while the more serious is the back cover cracking is a serious problem, whether it is from the camera corner or from the top of the interface or bottom of the USB interface, it seems that all from the main interface was divergent patterns gradually cracking, being unable to determine whether the for engineering machine making problems, we will be maintain a high degree of concern.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S4 enhance appearance is very obvious. Front panel of the design is very beautiful, the class metal frame added more extra points, the corner treatment is also very coordinated, and the enhancement of the material and the design carefully become the Samsung Galaxy series the highest level of the past few years, people will be able to feel the first time to use the "premium" and a sense of quality. But personal Quedui Samsung always use plastic veiled criticisms.
A phone do not see the meaning of the internal system design has become the only criteria in the current major manufacturers are in the heart to improve the design level and generally use better materials, Samsung has insisted its unique plastic wind, in order to cut costs or increase production levels this environment, the Samsung Galaxy S4 always only be a flagship product, and can not do the work of art.

I personally think it looks a lot more premium this time round (aside from the back)

But, I bet I know what you will think :p ;) EDIT: Yup! I was right! :D

I just don't really get it. Surely we've reached a point where tech is beginning to plateau. Phones are powerful enough. What matters now is the things which have typically been lacking, especially outside of the iPhone market. Things like..

Battery life
Look and feel
quality

etc etc

Yet all Samsung seem to have to do to win the admiration of the forum is simply release another paper tech-spec winner housed in cheapy plastic and its job done?

If you were a woman I would ask you out. Finally, someone who agrees with me.

It's the fact that it's plastic that bothers you the most not the fact that it will feel good c in hand and sturdy

The gullible mobs have been trained over the years to think that bigger numbers = better, sadly. We had to put up with the exact same nonsense a decade ago when processor speed was all the rage.

No plastic device will ever feel like a premium product in the hand, will it? is the iPhone 5 plastic? No. Is the iPad plastic? No. Is a MacBook Air plastic? No.

This is why people, often wrongly, associated Apple with quality. Because you only need to hold an Apple device in your hand to realise it feels expensive. It feels unmistakably like a high end product.

When will Android handset manufacturers grasp this? Only HTC ever seem to make an effort, and then accidently spill dog-turd into the boxes pre-shipping just to spoil all the hard work. Consumers will often accept *lower* technical specifications to achieve quality and battery longevity. Look at the iPad Mini. Technically speaking it's crap - on paper it's a complete waste of everyones time. But the battery lasts for ever and it exudes quality every time you use it. So it sells well despite a Nexus 7 beating it to a pulp in internet-arguments.

That looks totally plastic :(

Never mind, I'm sure it has a pointlessly powerful CPU or 100 cores or whatever, which is what matters right? :p

Well, I'd prefer a nice premium iPhone 5/HTC One esque design, but it seems that just as many people - if not more - feel the plastic design is great, as do Samsung.

It appears the definition of quality is subjective, as people feel the Galaxy phones are a premium level of quality plastic... if you feel such a thing exists.

Samsung will have improved the S4 in every hardware area - which is really rather good whether you feel it's worth it or not.

I completely understand where you're coming from though, as I've said before.

I suspect they don't - more likely they simply don't care. There is nothing 'great' about plastic design, it's simply cheaper. I doubt anyone genuinely picks up a Galaxy S3 and thinks 'Wow, I'm so glad this a lump of plastic and not a aluminium/glass slate'.

Samsung will have improved the S4 in every hardware area - which is really rather good whether you feel it's worth it or not.

In what area, technically, was the S3 lacking? What was it about the technical specification of the S3 that meant the average owner is going to gain more benefit from improved spec than they would have from a device that looked and felt more expensive or lasted longer battery wise or the myriad of other non-technical-spec improvements they could have decided to go for?

The one area where there was nothing wrong with the Galaxy S3 was its technical specification. We get it Samsung - you've got tech specs nailed. Great. Well done guys. Now move on to the areas where your products suck, rather than constantly refining the bits you've already got right.

The back of it is hideously cheap looking. I'm personally an iPhone man, but was seriously impressed with the HTC one and had high hopes for the S4... but jesus, why can't they just get rid of the plastic already!
