*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Yeah atleast we know there will definitely be an AOSP theme, so won't hurt as much. Change is nice for a little while too.

Was there one for the HOS/HOX?

Also Nexus, I'm home now and checked the white's on my S3 compared to my U2711 - next to no difference at all tbh. The quality of blacks always catch my eyes, but whites not soo much.

Yep, I for one will root the S4 ASAP if I do end up getting one.

There was a Carbon ROM for the HOX which was very AOSP a like, but as you might be aware HTC devices aren't as easy to root and install ROMS as Samsung phones are.

Will you be selling your S3 LTE to get the S4? It's an awesome phone, blindingly fast.

That's where HTC drops points with me - needs to have an AOSP theme that I can apply to the ROM I want. It's all HTC's fault for locking down their phones something rotten. That needs to change to get me on board, along with other things.

Not sure on the S4 just yet stoosh - nothing fondling me soo far. Need to see the show atleast :)

How about you mate?

There was one for the X, however, not for the S (lack of developing community :(), however, it wasn't anywhere as good as the likes of JB domination etc.

Hmm, maybe the GS 3 I had seen just had a poor display with regards to whites then?? Tried finding the video that I seen a good while ago but can't find it now, there are other videos comparing both but as usual, videos are done with bright lights/reflections on the screen so it isn't really a fair/as accurate of a test although the one S does look whiter in them, but that is most likely due to it being a good bit brighter.

GSMArena have posted the screen comparisons and they seem to think the gs 4 looks the best  Personally I think the GS 3 looks the best there, GS 4 is too dark/dull looking

Granted it is a prototype/early software etc. so there is very likely to be a change but still.

EDIT:

here is the theme for the one X/sense

There are a lot of variation in SAMOLED screens (same models) that I've noticed. If it were bad I'd have got it replaced for sure.

Not too bad - but white menu's/apps dude. Still better than stock sense imo.

ICS theme was a lot better than the JB one - I could have lived with that. Although I prefer fully black backgrounds as opposed to the graduated grey AOSP ones.

HTC are a strange company, they say that their open to Devs yet do everything possible to make it hard for the consumer to root and apply ROMS of their choice. They've even sent out cease and desist threats to websites who host HTC RUU ROMS, unlike Samsung who haven't threatened the likes of Samfirmware et all.

I'll make up my mind after Samsung's presentation Mate, it's between the S4 and HO. As I've sold my S3, (which I regret now) :( it has to be one or the other. The camera samples of the HO have alarmed me TBH and I might have to get the S4.

Too bad it's still a pentile display. Was hoping for the non-pentile subpixel arrangement of the Note 2 or even SAMOLED Plus. Even at such high pixel density, I reckon it will still be noticeable.

I think you've got to be extremely anal to be complaining about pentile at 440 PPI.

Pardon the stupid question...

What actually is the advantage/disadvantage to a pentile display?

Ah, so straight up image sharpness wise, the HTC one has the better screen?

Yeah, I think that's a fair comment - if you're sensitive to the pentile display. I didn't think it was bad at all on the S3 and the S4 should make it even better. Wait until you've seen it before deciding it's bad, you may not even be able to tell it has one.

Oh yeah it's not bad by any means but then again when I picked it for the first time I really looked hard at it to pick things I don't like lol

Yeah, I don't really mind the whites in sense though as it has a very subtle pattern look (just like on the darker/grey backgrounds), unfortunately it looks like they have lost that with sense V5 though :( And the rest of the UI/theme fits in well with the white (imo)

EDIT:

good thing about sense is you can apply some themes without having to root, which changes the colour/look of a few things so you can get a holo style theme:

Pretty nice although few things annoying me i.e. the dial pad so have gone back to the sense V5 skin:

Personally don't mind either type of background although for SAMOLED screens, I would prefer black over the graduated grey look!

Pentile should not be an issue at all on the GS 4, wasn't an issue on the GS 3 imo and I didn't even have any problems with it on my 1S (noticeable on some things like white text on black background etc. but only when I look really close at the screen). EDIT: NVM

I'll be rooting and going with Vertumus' theme asap but christ, those white TW menus are disgusting. I absolutely hate bright menus.

It isn't just the colour scheme/white that annoys me, but that they have literally butchered the placement of some stuff deeper into android now i.e. the settings menu, you have 4 tab things at the top:
