I could have phrased it better. If you want to flash the latest 4.4.2 Samsung based rom they'll want you to flash the locked bootloader first, which you may not want to do for the KNOX reasons and it's a one way deal.

You don't get bootloaders in CWM roms, they're Odin flashed. For non-Samsung roms, AOSP etc, they don't need the locked bootloader anyway. GE 4.4.2 will work on the old bootloader, but won't charge when switched off without the locked one. Oh and you might still run into a few issues with later LTE modems on all of them.

Well the GE ROM I'm using works just fine and charges overnight with a pre knox bootloader?
 
Just one of those things, common problem on 4.4.2 GE threads, known fault with old bootloader: unable to charge device whilst powered off without automatically booting up. Saw a few stuck in charge on/off boot loop, iirc the fix was to charge in recovery or download to get it started,

Never seen an explanation why, got to be related to the kernels used. No idea if it's common to all kernels or builds. Check which kernel you're on.

EDIT: Just to add, noticed the charging bug appeared in the CM11 Nightlies as well a couple of weeks back after they merged the GE source. Just reading to see if they fixed it.

oh right got you, I wouldn't notice, I just stick mine in flight mode but it stays on. Weird!

Worth it though, GE is very nice!

Never had a problem with upgrading tbh - If you do then factory reset after the upgrade, but should be fine IME.

Got mine on Thursday, feels really solid & well made, very happy with it, the only gripe, if any is the cover over the lock button, but I'm sure it'll get more flexible in time :)

how did you get the wifi to work on echoe.
 
Sounds like you might need to go back to a stock ROM and then flash again, I've had that happen to me in the switch from 4.3 to 4.4
 
yep ive tried all that several times over! :( been up since early downloading and flashing golden eye as i only have 2g coverage at the moment so cant even restore my phone.
