*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Had some issues with mine over last few days, with it just powering off for no reason.

Tried various things, including putting a new ROM on it, still doing it.

I then came across a thread on XDA Developers regarding battery issues with batteries whose serial number starts with BD.

The symptoms are poor battery life, switching off for no reason, and finally - a swollen battery.

Looked closer at my battery, and it was indeed swollen. Samsung provide free replacements in any Samsung approved service centre - so I've just popped to my local one and within 2 minutes I had a brand new battery.

I'm really considering just going back to full stock, can't be bothered with all ROM updates.

Is it difficult to revert back to stock?

I just got a new S4 today. Am I right in saying, if I want to be free to install custom ROMs without worrying too much about my Warranty, I should not install the OTA Official update because this will install the Knox bootloader onto my phone?

So yesterday was my first day with the Anker extended battery. I am very impressed, I hammered it all day long. Screen full brightness and power saving switched off.

Not bad at all! Today was a bit more normal on the use, I'm now sitting on 62% which is great, the standard battery would normally be on 5-20% at this time of night. An average day I get about 2 hours of screen on time.

I'm on Echoe and really liking it. Very rarely have any issues and I think this is the longest I've ever been without having to wipe my phone and start again due to issues.

I've got an anker extended battery now, first day using it today so we'll see how well it lasts :)

Which version do you use? On the XDA forum I see 2 different ones.

Is it possible to upgrade from a custom 4.2.2 to 4.4?

I have an old custom rom installed and thought I had downloaded the required files to update to 4.4. I flashed a new bootloader and modem but can't get a custom 4.4 rom to flash. It seems to be going through the update process but I end up with a clean 4.2.2 installed and no working modem.

Any help would be great......

Do you have a link to your one? thanks

I gotta say anyone looking for a nice basic AOSP ROM should have a look at SlimKat. Been using it since the weekend and loving it so far.

I've got the Spigen Slim Armor case and while it's a nice case it has a very polished back and is a bit slippery....
I'm actually looking at the non-slip Spaigen from Amazon.. only £7.99

I have the slim armor view which is good:

Retains the window view of the official samsung case with more protection.
Since the 4.4.2 update the physical button at the bottom no longer wakes the screen up for some reason but I am hoping this will be fixed in an update - not the cases fault (I am running stock so may not be an issue on different roms)

Unlike the one above mine is a nice matte finish (I think the white version is gloss) so if you touch it with oily fingers it shows up but can be wiped clean.

My S4 screen packed in a couple of weeks back 29/04/14. Called Samsung straight away, finally got a jiffy bag in the post, sent off on 07/05/14. Heard nothing, checked the online status several times, just said "Acknologed" - left for the 10 working days they require. Checked status online again - "Cancelled". Call them.....

Samsung: I'm sorry we don't have a postcode on your account, so we need to put it through the service system all over again......

What? I gave you my postcode when you delivered the jiffy bag....

Samsung: Nope, we don't have your post code.

Can you at least tell me anything about my phone? Where is it? What's wrong with it?

Samsung: Nope, I can't tell you, it'll be 7-10 working days....

Do you have my contact number and email address?

Samsung: Yes.

Why did no-one tell me about the postcode problem?

Samsung: I don't know.

Great.

Joy.

I've about had my fill of Samsung. They can stuff me buying another phone off them!
