*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

You do an image backup called a Nandroid - that will save you current rom with apps and data just the way it is now...so you can revert back.

This will be done in the custom recovery...CWM/TWRP

Thanks I'll look into that, sounds like a nice option

I will have to do some more research into what a custom recovery is first though :D

EDIT: Just done some research and all seems fairly simple :)

Hopefully someone can help with this query - I installed another custom ROM earlier today Jamal's [AOSP] Official 4.4.2 - S4 Google Edition - Final-R1.2. Since flashing I've had problems connecting to the mobile network - the phone boots up with no signal. I can manually search for a network and connect for a few minutes, but then the signal drops again.

Any ideas what's going on?

You'll most likely need to flash a new modem.

At a guess, XXUFNA1 should work but have a read and make sure it suits your phone and version.

Thanks UnworthyBean. That seemed to fix it, however my phone has just turned itself off and refuses to boot up - it gets to the end of the google splash screen and then powers off. Any ideas? It was working fine for about a day...

my phone is going into deep sleep ok but im still having trouble with the battery life.

Im getting about about 12 hours total usage
2 hours on screen and 1 hour talk time...

I dis able everything have deep sleep installed and everything turns off when the screen turns off.

I have battery stats pro installed and battery doctor to try and prolong it,

Still cant see how some people are getting 5 hours on screen time etc.

New bootloader.

WanamLite v2.5:

Ktoonsez Kernel with his kernel settings:

(make sure you get the TW KitKat version)

With the above combo I'm easily achieving 6 hours screen time, let me know if you need any more help :)

id like to try this rom now. where do i find this new bootloader?

and whats the best way to install it? thanks?

I've had my S4 since the day it came out. I flashed a rooted stock ROM the first day it appeared and haven't changed it since. I'm getting the update itch (I was a flashing junkie on S2 etc). What stable ROM are you guys using? The only thing I really need in there is VOIP ability (Phone-> Call Settings-> Internet Call Settings) and Call Recording ability.

Dropped my S4 and smashed my screen :(

Ordered a 32gb S5 :) - Edit: which has just been cancelled "out of stock" :(

Question: What's the best way to flash my ROM and modems back to stock so I can give this to my Dad?

Without sound really thick (probably too late)

Can someone point me to an idiots guide to flashing a totally stock SG4?
Also can you get it back to a stock sg4 after flashing to a rom of your choice (i.e for warranty purposes etc)

Appreciate it - I have been looking around but there seems to be a lot of information but nothing that is an idiots guide.

be some on xda developers sorry i cant help more as ive never flashed to stock lol

the rom i listed above is fantastic

Use odin to flash philz cwm then boot into recovery and flash a zip of the rom you want to run (You need to know if you have the new or old bootloadery). When you boot into download mode for odin if says anything about knox then you have the new bootloader. If you are on the new bootloader and flash a custom rom then you void your warranty although some places may not mind.

Hopefully you are on the old bootloader and if you are do not flash the LTE/WIFI fix as that will break things. Once you have updated your rom update your phone baseband using odin to a matching version else you might not get any signal.

To get back to stock you just flash a stock rom using odin.

Will be plenty of guides around for each step in this process.

When flashing a stock ROM, will that reset all the modems and kernals and everything else I've changed? Having a Bootloader installed is a minor, I just want the ROMS and everything else functional back to factory for my Dad to use my phone.

ok - thanks - should be old bootloader as the phone was just about a week 1 phone.

Know is a huge annoyance, the phone has so much potential and i am being held back by knox and fear of loosing warranty. Argghhhhhh

Is knox 2.0 going to leave us alone root our phones at least?

What's the most stable/best ROM at the moment? I'm using Omega latest version I think however it hasn't been updated for about a month and it's quite unstable now.

I'm on Echoe and really liking it. Very rarely have any issues and I think this is the longest I've ever been without having to wipe my phone and start again due to issues.

I've got an anker extended battery now, first day using it today so we'll see how well it lasts :)
