*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

The dimensions and screen is what impressed me the rest was very meh - the design would have been the main selling point for me and it's to similar to the S3.

No real point me changing from a i9305 as it has the Grey hue, 4G and 2GB RAM.

I'm all set up right too with custom ROM and JB theme.

This will be a great upgrade for people coming from other phones.

Right with you, will be quite funny laying an i9305 next to the S4.

S4 looks like a great piece of hardware but that launch event was the most cringeworthy thing ever. Say what you will about Apple but they really do know how to do a good launch event / keynote.

I find Apple launches just as cheesy. But they are cheesy is a different way, mainly the ridiculous whooping and "hell yeahs" from the crowd every time a feature is mentioned.

Yes, my Note 2 charge dock will be just fine as well, I'll have to add some rubber pads to the back to add the extra few mm though but I've got the right pads to make it look factory finished.

That probably explains that lack of any real new features - another downside of using someone else's OS I guess.

The software features we've been shown, /almost/ none of those are a part of Android really and are dependent on the manufacturer putting them in. In this regard Samsung (and HTC in many ways) are the innovators here because stock Android offers the base for manufacturers to build their stuff on.

While stock Jelly Bean added lots of new things deep down to improve efficiency, speed and a nicer interface, it's the likes of Samsung who have been making it all talk to other devices wirelessly through one common app among other things.

The only thing I really hate is the lack of proper USB Mass Storage when connected to a PC which is only available on stock Android it seems :/

Another question. How long did Samsung take to update to JB after release? Key Lime Pie is due to be announced at Google's I/O event in May - fortunately Samsung have shown to be good in this department but interested in how long people think they will take. Sony (who only have two weeks left until they renege on their 'shortly after release' window) and HTC still haven't jumped to 4.2.2, KLP for them could be nearing the end of the year.

EDIT - RE HTC/Sony - more like early 2014 then.

It took about 6 months for the S3 to get Jellybean, it will probably be pretty similar for the S4 and KLP. So late this year.

Exactly the same looking phone but with different features and upgraded specs...dear oh dear Samsung...doing exactly what Apple have been doing for a few yrs now lol.

Quite disappointed with the S4, i was looking forward to some groundbreaking design but nope its just a beefed up S3 with some interesting features.

The Apple presentations aren't nearly as terrible as that.

The crowd don't usually shout things out like that either, I think you're getting it confused with the retail store launches where there's shouting and other nonsense.

Samsung topped all that though, and not in a good way!

I wish people would stop making hit and run comments about the design and the 'minor upgrades' without actually provided what they WANTED to see.

If you expected more, the expand and tell us what this 'more' includes?

As someone joked above, it's as if some people were expecting a 4k screen, a mind-reading chip and an app that makes women's knickers fall off when they meet you.

Fair enough but they're still cheesy in the fact they over and mis-use superlatives all the time, lie and **** off the competition.

Samsung need to drop the crappy amateur dramatics and stick to a more traditional presenting technique but at least they not once mentioned how much better they are than everyone else or used the word "awesome" every 5 minutes.

The BB Z10 is old recycled hardware and you didn't complain about that! :p

SwiftKey confirmed:

Dr. Ben Medlock, co-founder and CTO of SwiftKey, said from the New York launch: "Following our great success with the SwiftKey 4 launch last month, we are excited to confirm that Samsung has chosen SwiftKey's innovative keyboard technology to be at the heart of its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4. This is fantastic progress for our vision of bringing the best touchscreen typing experience to as many people as possible."

Speaking of Z10, got one in the office and between it, the Xperia Z and the HTC One, they look the same design. So who's copying who these days :D

Props to the Z10 though for offering a smooth and slick experience. Even if years late to the party.

I'll just catch the tube.

Nice one. travel underground in the hot temps with sweaty armpits infront of your face with no ventilation and noise levels that drive you mad whilst i be cruising down the road chillin, taking only 20mins to reach westfield.

once reach westfield i can buy a crap load of stuff and dump it in the boot of my car and ride home whilst you will have to lug around and carry all your shopping back to the stuffy underground trains :)

You realise that the One and Z would have been pretty much design complete well before either company even saw the Z10 right? :)

Phones aren't designed in a couple of weeks they take years to design from scratch.

I might go and rent a maybach....for that "cruising" experience you speak of around central London... ;)
