*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

So, doing a bit more looking into the 'edge' and i'm just as underwhelmed by the features it supposedly offers.

Edge light, to light up and be visible at the edges for all those caring attentive people who leave their phones screen down on the table. Great.

Edge people, where you can swipe from the side and it lists your 5 most used contacts. Whoopee, why does that need a curvy screen though? You can still swipe from the edges of flat screens.

Edge clock, which shows a night time clock. Great. Again, don't see why this really needs a curvy screen, just feels like something to make it do.

Information stream, similar to the clock, make information scroll along the edge of the screen. Which you could do with a flat screen, the only advantage is for those people who want to see this information, but are restricted to a side on only viewing angle. Wow.

What on earth about any of that leads people to want to pay what will no doubt be a significant premium for it? Do people really spend that much money on a phone, just to put the things face down on a desk all the time to the point that a bit of screen at the edge being visible when someone rings you is a noteworthy feature?

I'd just get it because it looks nicer and is something a bit different.

I suppose 'being different' is one reason to throw extra money at it, but surely there aren't that many people out there willing to pay a premium just to be a bit different?

What's even worse, looking at other videos, is that playing video back and looking at images etc. it seems the edges actually appear a bit distorted and unless in total darkness, generate an irritating reflection line across the top and bottom edges of the screen. Surely that's going to be a worse screen for anyone who consumes media on the phone?

I just want it because it looks cool, not interested in any of the features. But the premium is a kicker. I'll wait to see what the cost is first but from what I heard about Samsung finding it difficult and costly to manufacture it wouldn't be cheap.

The phone does look nicer, physically, I agree but really enough to pay a premium for?

The more I see of it making horrible reflections too, the more I think i'd go flat screen even if they cost the same :p

If all else fails copy Apple :D gonna skip this and keep my Note 3 until the next Note is released later this year. Really like that we are finally going to get an Exynos chip in the European flagship for once.

The only thing that I really don't like is the lack of MicroSD because I use uTorrent, but this looks like a winner from Samsung if for only the fact the base model finally has 32GB, which sticks two fingers up to Apple.

Yeah that distortion and reflection would irritate me.

He's making a joke. There was a dress in the press last week about which there was some dispute regarding its colour. It appeared white and gold but was blue and black.

Ah ok. I did wonder.

These are the only colours for the Edge on the Samsung UK site:

Which is the supposed chrome?

Gold Plat

It seems to me the edge on the note edge has function where on the S6 it doesn not.

No shortcut bar etc.

I like the edge S6 in black. To me the S6 normal looks like other samsung phones. the front anyway.

Next few days Mate when I get a chance to get everything together for MM.
I'm quite happy to sell in the next week or so.

Don't worry about me Mate. I'll still get to eat three meals a day and pay my mortgage and still enjoy the S6. Thanks ever so much for your concern :p

Awesome! Look forward to possibly owning a sony for a couple of weeks ;) I need your job also if you don't mind ;)

i like the design, except the camera on the back, but what really concerns me is the small battery, i mean 2550 mah coupled with a 2K screen? thats bound for instant fail

I can't find a single video reviewing a Black S6 - all in white. Bah! Why.

Yeah, there are a few with clips of the black one, but nothing great.

It looks so much better than white.

Are people forgetting samsung released a 1440p version of the s5 in korea?

Anandtech stated it had a minimal/0 effect on battery life...dont ask me how though :p

** Please don't hotlink images **

Edit: in fact it has better battery life!

Yeah black helps blend in the holes and border. Would have been nice if all the chrome was toned down on the black model replaced with gunmetal.

Yes, as with every phone @ George.

Just tried this a few times to make sure I am not going mad. If I set the alarm and switch the S4 off, the alarm does not activate. It needs to be switched on to work - that's stupid and a waste of battery.

Older mobiles I've had (Nokia/Sony/Orange SPV) allowed you to set the alarm, power the device down and it'd switch itself back on to sound the alarm.

It's a tiny feature, but irritating nonetheless. I shouldn't have to waste the battery all night leaving the phone on just so the alarm goes off :(
