**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

and let me guess it will not come to the uk, so many interesting middle phones that never come to the uk, we seem to get high end and low end. £410 from HK.

all devices, usb-c is coming on latops all ready. not hard to imagine other devices dropping a jack for usb-c.
apple is apple, They love selling adapters. There's also been rumours of them testing usb-c.

I can't see Apple not adopting it, there are reasons for them not to of course but given what they did with the Macbook Pro I'd say the writing's on the wall but perhaps they just weren't ready in time to do it on the latest iPhone. Lightning headphones seem like one of their worst products if they're going to make the switch soon though.

It's worth mentioning that 'dropping a jack' and uisb-c don't have to be mutually exclusive, my current phone manages to support both somehow.

it gets rid of an extra component plus the internals which allows more space for other things.

Like I mentioned earlier, until we actually get those 'other things' it's not an advantage to lose the headphone socket.

haha you couldn't have timed that worse.

I added the caveat that Bluetooth development isn't reliant on the headphone socket for a reason.

So... rear mounted finger print scanner apparently. Anyone else find them more "awkward" being on the back ?

I love it, went from S6 Edge+ to Pixel XL last week and the rear fingerprint scanner is head and shoulders above the thumb scanner on the front, it never misses. I can honestly say in a week it hasn't let me down once, the Samsung scanner would work maybe 50% of the time, admittedly this would be in part down to Samsung, not the general idea of a front mounted scanner.
The pixel scanner works at any angle, like for example my Samsung wouldn't unlock if I was holding upside down or even at a 90 degree angle.

In more general terms, a front mounted thumb scanner on a big phone, a-la my S6 Edge+, is a pain in the neck (or thumb to be precise).

Biggest problem for me is if the phones not in your hand or pocket its on a table or desk.
Front scanner means you dont have to pick the phone up which i dont want to do sometimes if i have mucky paws.

True but on the other hand if this was case you can wake the screen and use either pin or pattern unlock, granted it's not as handy but for the few occasions when this occurs it does the job. Plus if you are say at your desk and have a Bluetooth device connected (speaker etc) you can use smart unlock/trusted devices and this will mean no finger print is required at all. I have tried the smart location feature but even at home this is very hit and miss.

Rear facing sounds more plausible in terms of rumours to me, prefer front but rear wasn't too bad after using a pixel for a week. Before I used it, I was very against rear mounted

I think having used both an S7 and a Pixel that I personally prefer a front fingerprint scanner because you can still operate it with the phone sitting on a table.

I thought the whole point was that the S8 would be using the new Qualcomm tech. If it's on the back what does that mean?

Really?! I'm surprised at the responses to that, I'm actually a fan of the rear mounted finger print scanner simply because they are typically positioned where your finger naturally rests :)

I don't really think its because its on the back its better in terms of it working. Had a S6 and S7 and Samsung's FPS aren't the best ones on the market.

Using a OP3T and that is faultless, and as said how can a rear one be good when your phone is on the desk. Both have advantages.
