The problem with removing the headphone jack is some people actually own decent headphones and are unwilling to blow £200-£300 on decent ones that only work on phones.
They'll have to use the adapter that's in the box then.
Indeed. It's a non issue for most.

I'm glad the jack is going/gone.
Bottom facing, easily covered. It's okay for a mono speaker I suppose.
Apple iPhone 7 destroys it though, as does the HTC 10.
Eventually they'll stop bundling the adapter too, I am not especially looking forward to being forced to buy adapters for stuff which should be integrated.
Bluetooth aptX solves most of the issues with bluetooth audio. With CD quality transmission, you can listen to music faithful to the quality of the source file you're playing.
Obviously this relies on both the phone and headphones supporting aptX, and the headphones being good quality. To date, no Nexus/Pixel or iPhone supports aptX, so you're stuck to OEMs for this luxury.
I sold my Sennheiser IE80 (of 3 years!) as I was so impressed with the quality of the Bienna QY8 (QCY QY8 variant) and haven't looked back once.
Never heard the QY7, so can't comment on them. I do know that the ear tips supplied with these variants are different, though. I've got two pairs of QY8 and they both come with different quality tips and hooks. The right fit tips makes or breaks the quality you hear.
I'm not using any software EQ either, GoneMad with its audio engine turned off, but Samsung Adapt Sound turned on (it tunes the DAC to your earphones specifically). So worth exploring that if you haven't yet.
at which point people will have moved to wireless.
i actually like apple and if rumors are true Samsung doing this, we should see bluetooth finally getting attention and improvements it needs. Some times tech needs a push like this.
