**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Physical home button and headphone jack are dead, can't see any 2017 phone having these any more.

Wireless charging is meh, give me rapid charging any day. Type C 3.1 or even 2/3 is the future of connection.

The S7 phones support 15W wireless charging, so are capable of charging as fast as wired charging (also 15W). The issue is that no 15W wireless chargers are out yet, but LG have one being released imminently, and Tronsmart too (by year's end).

The S7 is the only phone that supports it though, but I fully expect the S8 will also.

The problem with removing the headphone jack is some people actually own decent headphones and are unwilling to blow £200-£300 on decent ones that only work on phones.

Indeed. It's a non issue for most.

It's an issue most people are probably prepared to tolerate but let's not pretend it's an improvement for us as we don't seem to be gaining anything in the process.

Eventually they'll stop bundling the adapter too, I am not especially looking forward to being forced to buy adapters for stuff which should be integrated.

Hmmm... Looks like another phone for me then.

Still annoyed that Samsung made the battery non replaceable.

I do wish they'd add a mm or 2 to the thickness and fill that space up with battery instead. Hell, often the camera lens sticks out a bit, why not make that the thickness of the phone?

I don't want to use a cack quality adaptor so I can run my headphones. Also don't want bluetooth headphones as I'd have to charge them twice a day, I wear them for so long on average that I spent the money on a set of custom IEM's.

I'm glad the jack is going/gone.

How can you possibly say thre first comment with any degree of confidence and why on earth would you be happy?
Apples reason was to sell more expensive Bluetooth headphones and make their phone waterproof. Samsung are already very capable of making their phones waterproof with a headphone jack and do not sell headphones. It's pure apple lead and Samsung blindly follow... No good reason at all.

at which point people will have moved to wireless.

i actually like apple and if rumors are true Samsung doing this, we should see bluetooth finally getting attention and improvements it needs. Some times tech needs a push like this.

Bluetooth aptX solves most of the issues with bluetooth audio. With CD quality transmission, you can listen to music faithful to the quality of the source file you're playing.

Obviously this relies on both the phone and headphones supporting aptX, and the headphones being good quality. To date, no Nexus/Pixel or iPhone supports aptX, so you're stuck to OEMs for this luxury.

I sold my Sennheiser IE80 (of 3 years!) as I was so impressed with the quality of the Bienna QY8 (QCY QY8 variant) and haven't looked back once.

Is QY8 that much better than QY7?

I have 7s for the gym, and they are ok I guess for the price, but far from the quality of even my CX-300 IIs, which are hardly high-end in-ear phones.

Never heard the QY7, so can't comment on them. I do know that the ear tips supplied with these variants are different, though. I've got two pairs of QY8 and they both come with different quality tips and hooks. The right fit tips makes or breaks the quality you hear.

I'm not using any software EQ either, GoneMad with its audio engine turned off, but Samsung Adapt Sound turned on (it tunes the DAC to your earphones specifically). So worth exploring that if you haven't yet.

I have a Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro, so don't have those options. The overall bass and noise-block on my QY7s are pants compared to my Sennis.

Still, more than happy with wired as I still DJ n all :D

Bluetooth is probably as advanced as it's ever going to be and even if not you can improve Bluetooth independently of the headphone jack so you haven't really addressed what's gained in losing it.

If I were to switch at best I get the quality I'm already accustomed to, it'll be considerably more expensive and to top it all off I have to make sure the damn thing is charged every day (I'm annoyed enough when my mobile needs charging every day, I don't want more devices with the same problem). The only positive I can think of is no cables, when I compare those advantages and disadvantages it's a really really easy choice.

I don't have a problem with people using wireless, knock yourselves out but I really wish people would stop telling me it's a non-issue, it's a bloody issue for anyone who doesn't want to be forced to buy a new headset or having to rely on dongles.

The dongle would merely add a few extra cm to the length of your headphone cable, just leave it attached all the time surely so if you're carrying your headphones, you're by relation also carrying the dongle as it's attached.
