**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

I think that's just the nature of android tbh
Using whatsapp web by any chance? I find if you're using that, and the pings, then the phone will only get the notification after about 30 seconds or so if you don't respond to whatsapp web... kind of handy I think

Random side-note... Just applied Glass-Guard liquid nano coating and OH MY! That was not a pleasant relaxed experience like a normal screen protector install haha

The guys that made it who I saw at the gadget show (they did my S6 Edge) made it look EASY!

It goes sticky within about 10 seconds then it is a mix of softening it (with a coated pad they give you) then buffing like mad! Repeat all that until it is clear and streak free

And if you don't, then that's your £700 device not looking too pretty for the rest of its life lol because the stuff is permanent

Recommend the product? Yes! Was brilliant on my S6 Edge

Recommend the installation? No :D I would probably do it again on any of my devices, but I definitely wouldn't do it on someone else's device just in case...

It could just be a power saving setting I think. Any android handset I've had it's usually been hit or miss whether or not I get some notifications. I think I eventually put it down to power saving !

That's strange and I can't say I've ever noticed it really other than with whatsapp/whatsapp web combo. Hmmm

Any chance of some recommendations for screen protectors ?
Not really (other than the liquid one above)

Any actual film / plastic ones are all a bit rubbish on a curved screen due to the material they have to be to flex and stick to the edges

And any tempered glass ones look horrible as they don't go to the edges of the screen and just sit flat in the middle

I had this issue with my S6 Edge

A Spigen one I had was 'OK', but it had a bit of an orange peel effect to it and wasn't the typical 'feel' as it was a bit rubbery

To be honest your experience with applying that glass-guard liquid sounds terrifying lol. I'd be too worried about wrecking my screen

Alright, having now watched a whole bunch of review videos and articles, I decided to see what cashback deals were going. Quidco have a 3% cashback scheme going that expires in a day for all purchases off Samsung's site.

Needless to say, I've ordered the S8+ in black.

I'll be sending my S7 edge to Samsung to have the screen replaced (dark grey AOD instead of black), and the USB port replaced (doesn't always fast charge, known issue on a bunch of them it seems), I'll also mention the battery capacity and see if they will replace that since they are basically turning the phone inside out anyway. They may just replace the whole phone even.

I can then sell the S7 edge, along with the lens case kit to recover a large chunk of the S8 cost, which can go towards the Note 8 when that comes out sometime around Christmas I guess.

I said I wouldn't succumb to Samsung's pricing, but having seen these reviews, and having weighed up the pros and cons of my plans for both devices, I think it's a small cost to myself once you factor in selling the S7 edge serviced/replaced by Samsung, with extras.

I will not be using a case, but do hope Samsung release a lens case for this like they did with the S7, as the lenses were excellent.

I can also test out 15W wireless fast charging too and see if Belkin are BSing us about their pad's capabilities for real.

Edit*
Oh yeah, for all owners: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/

Lol :D Fair enough

I had a re-read to make sure I didn't over-exaggerate much... Seems OK... I think the last line sums it up enough that I honestly wouldn't go near someone else's phone with that, even if they paid me £20 or £30... too risky

But then again I'm not sure if it just looks scary... and actually maybe there's no chance of ruining it (unless you're stupid)?? As you can keep softening it with that first pad then buffing the remainder. You obviously don't have an hour to do it, but I was maybe going for 10 minutes on the front? And when I was done with that I just about had enough on the applicator (it dries up once exposed) to get some coating on the back glass, but it probably wasn't as evenly coated as the front (not an issue from a visual perspective as you can't see the coating when done)

There are some people though on Amazon unhappy with it, but there are more positive reviews than negative so I guess that says something?

It does say on the package that there are authorised agents you can search for on the website who will install it presumably for a small fee, but I can't see that part of the site...

Just a note on this as I asked the Samsung Repair Centre to replace my S6 Edge battery in Jan as it didn't last as long as it used to.. They said no as the battery has a shorter warranty (6 month only I think) compared to the two year warranty on the device itself

Not sure when you bought your S7 Edge? But I guess no harm in asking... if you don't ask you don't get

Battery warranty appears to be 12 months only, I bought the phone on 22 Feb 2016!

So a couple months out, maybe they will share some good will :p

Ah yeah that's it, 12 months

Shame... Probably not worth paying them for it either as I don't think you'd get the extra back when you sell it by saying it has a new battery - then again.. might be worth it depending on the cost.. you could provide the invoice to show it genuinely has a new battery, might interest some buyers? I'd be interested in that if I was buying a phone and the seller could prove it was a new battery

Aye, a genuine battery isn't expensive, in fact it's £15

I think that would definitely be a plus for a solid sale in the MM, new screen, no burn, new USB port, new battery.
That's very reasonable! :)

Completely forgot about MM when I sold my S6 Edge... damn!

The other thing I have found is that in Developer Options you can switch off that annoying high volume warning when using Bluetooth or headphones. Al last! Used to get the warning every time I used an external device to listen to something.
Which option is this? I cannot see it

Only something about absolute volume, but I don't think that's it?

Out of interest what resolution are most people running it at ? Keeping it FHD or ramping it up to WQHD ? Has anyone does any experiments to see what impact WQHD has on the battery ?

That is it, and is also in the S7.
Perfect. Enabled.

Thanks :)

Didn't do any tests. But ramped it right up :D Unless I see any issues I shall be leaving it like that. As someone said here, no point buying such a great phone then putting limitations on the screen to save a touch of battery

I've tested it and honestly there's hardly any difference. Maybe a few % but nothing noticible. May as well just enjoy the highest res.
In case you have tested this also... do you know what affect the always on display has on battery? My guess is also minimal?
