**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

I've ordered the S8 plus on EE. I don't want to get rid of my S7e so that will go to the mrs, her iPhone 6 will be sold off. I have a PAC code which I need to use within the next 2 weeks or so, that was one factor in helping to sway me in the end as well as the fact they were throwing in 2 yrs of BT Sports which I will use a lot for the footy.

Hoping I can sell the Apple Music subscription as it'll be no use to me whatsoever. Delivery is showing around the 30th but I'm in no rush to receive, I'll keep my eyes open in case any better offers pop up in the meantime. Would have gone for the normal S8 but it was exactly the same price so went for the abnormally long version instead.
 
Alright so going through all my MicroUSB cables to chuck what I will no longer need, or give away. Turns out I already have a couple of Type-C cables, so one will live in the car, and one on the PC. I'll be wireless charging at work and home every other time, so have just ordered an additional Type A to C cable, and another little Micro to C adapter to settle keep around just in-case.

Also a dbrand black leather skin for the back (it looks and feels so good on the S7 edge).
 
Soo,i connected my S8 to Smart Switch last night to back it up ,and was greeted with a software update ,so i let it continue ,2 hours later and its still at 4% ,next thing i know the phone turns off and is red hot ,its goosed ,tried all recovery options but no joy.
So i contacted my retailer (VERY),and let me tell you this ,they are HOPELESS ,they told me they would have to repair it OR if unrepairable they would give me a refund NOT a replacement !!! and the refund could take 14 days !!!!

So i then contacted Samsung direct ,45 minutes later via live chat ,i have a brand new replacement being delivered on tuesday for a doorstep swap ,great service in the end ;)
Tbh if i didn't have the 20% of code for very i would never have purchased the S8 from them ,so if anyone has done likewise ,be warned they will not replace if your set is faulty !!
 
If anyone isn't a fan of the Samsung phone and contacts app, the Google ones work well. Google phone actually works with local search and caller display of anyone who's calling - which doesn't usually on non nexus/pixel phones. The stock Samsung phone does have this function in it, but didn't work anywhere as well as Google when I tested them:

You can either change the default phone in the default apps section, or disable the Samsung contacts package.
 
Very is hopeless, I'm still waiting for my £40 discount to be refunded to my account as promised by them 6 months ago. Never ordering anything again there even if it's half price.

I can believe it ,i made sure the 20% off was in showing in my account before i opened the box !
 
Ordered a Ringke Slim black case for S8+, tried a few cases on my S7e and this was my favourite so I'm sticking with Ringke. I definitely need a case as I use a magnetic car mount, the slim metal plate sticks to the inside of the case.
 
S8+ arrived yesterday. First thoughts are that its a great phone with a cracking screen and the battery life looks to be good. Gripes are that the fingerprint scanner is horribly placed and virtually useless, the facial recognition also doesn't work very well. I may just end up leaving my phone unlocked.

Also regretting moving to Vodafone, it's essentially an 80% downgrade from EE (50 Mbps to 10 Mbps), you get what you pay for I guess.
 
Loving the S8 - really glad I got this phone.

Only issue I'm having is with whatsapp - like mentioned by others, theres some sort of caching going on - messages come in multiples and even when sending them they sit there for a minute or two before actually being sent. Me no likey.

If anyone finds a fix for this please let us know, thanks
 
@@captaincomedy - Your replacement handset - can you check the software version on it please?

Mine came as AQC9 and pretty much instantly asked to update to AQDD, fairly sure it was unbranded handset from mobiles.co.uk (CPW)
 
Thought the update was only available for the S8+ just yet?

I'm curious if captainc was given one with the newer 'fixed' firmware for red reduction.

Well my S8 is definitely running AQDD and updated to it on Friday about 2 hours after I first turned it on. I've not seen anything to suggest there is any newer firmware than that around.
 
My S8+ is AQC9. I have messed about with the sliders to change the colour and its still got a red tint! I'm going to give it 7 days I think then go in for a exchange. My S3 watch has arrived and I'm already liking it compared to my old Apple watch.
 
I don't suppose anybody is using their S8 with Android Auto in an Audi? On my S6 I had full access and control of Spotify but this is not appearing with the S8. I don't know if this is down to the car, the type C connector, Nougat (was running 6.1 on an S6 previously). When I click the aidio icon I get Google play music instead. I can get Spotify to play over USB audio only.
