**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Well I'm well and truly ****** off, got the s8+ was laggy as hell battery wasn't right and the camera photos looked absolutely utterly terrible the video was even worse was sending it back today as something was wrong because even my s6 edge blew it out the water and I only dropped it on the floor carpet floor my I add and the screen has cracked so now it's an absolute huge waste of money, and I'm totally annoyed that I dropped it

Had my galaxy S8 plus for a week now, it's brand new and I'm really pleased with it so far, stuck it straight in a case as I know how delicate they are, I chose the Google settings as default and have no lag whatsoever it's really quick, and easily get a whole day with the battery. I never bother with the silly fingerprint scanner I just use the facial recognition instead which works most of the time unless you are in a dark environment. But coming from a Nexus 6 getting this phone for £520 I'm very pleased.

I came in to this thread after being disgruntled about not only the iPhone X pricing but also the delayed availability given I've been waiting the whole year for it to be announced to only find out we need to wait a few more months for it to actually release. I've been seriously considering the S8 after being impressed with the camera quality of the S7E...

However the last few pages of consistent complaints of lag have me wondering again. I was out with a group of friends last week and a friend with a recent S8 decided to take a group selfie and it just continued to stutter and not take the photo.

My iPhone 6 that's over 3 years old with about 50+ GB used of the 64GB (and no reset to date) doesn't stutter or lag. What's happening with new phones? I'd happily not upgrade to either new iPhone X or S8 but I really want a decent camera on my phone now. Who'd have thought it'd be this difficult...

I have the S8 and note 8. The S8 doesn't lag but the note feels a little faster here and there. Both good phones and offer much more over the iPhone range. I also have the iPhone 7 plus.

Having had a IP7 Plus and S8 Plus... the lag reports here, whilst not completely inaccurate, are representative of a disgruntled user... much like complaints on an iPhone forum. I used to have issues on my iPhone I have issues on my s8... but... crucially 90+% of the time, everything is fast, effective and "just works"...performance and features vs. price... nothing touches the S8

I've just noticed something on my phone which is a little odd? My friend has messaged me on WhatsApp from an iPhone 7 to my S8 plus, I've noticed that I either do not receive the message at all or as I just noticed. It doesn't save the message after I close the app so I lose the message history. It doesn't seem to happen if messaging from android to android. And I never had this problem with WhatsApp on my previous phone.

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH

Just dropped my phone off my desk.....= smashed screen....Anyone paid to have one replaced. iSmash want the best part of £300.

Has anyone here messed around with the minimum DPI settings within developer options?

I've settled on 444 which seems perfect with fonts set to small. Has anyone changed theirs and what to?

Does it have any ill effects like battery life or performace drop with a bigger DPI set?

Thanks

smashed mine last week, fortunately I have insurance through bank so cost me £50 excess, I think the screens themselves are around £200 so I'm guessing that's gonna be a normal sort of cost :(

Did your bank fix or replace.. I'd rather it be fixed so I don't lose a day setting it up again. But I can't be without the phone (business)

My bank (Barclays) replaced, excess is £50 for Apple and £25 for all other phones. Turn around is 3 days.

Right, I got my refund back for my Elephone S8 and going to get a Samsung S8, time to see what a GOOD Android phone is all about. So where is the best/cheapest place to get one?

Got a new s8+ after smashed my other, camera is still not as it should be have lag and for some reason the Wi-Fi is pathetic in fact I'll say it again my s6 edge plus was a lot better than both of my s8+ i have them both here and have full wifi on my s6 and 1 bar on s8+ which loads websites unbelievably slow. Oh and the screen has been in my pocket for a day with coins and has some pretty bad scratches (my bad but I'm not buying a nice looking phone like this to cover it up)

It's like I'm bashing Samsung when I've loved every galaxy I've had a part from these 2 s8+ they have sucked.

I am switching from Apple to S8+ will be pretty critical of the performance as iOS runs very well on iPhone, will let you know how my S8+ runs, seems pretty unlucky to get two dodgy units in a row?

Well I got my S8+ a couple days ago, the move from the iPhone went fairly painlessly, mostly because I was already using google photos, calendar, contacts and music. Though the Samsung switch thing mucked up my text messages, they where all out of order and new texts arrived half way up list so had to delete all old messages.
As far as fluidity goes there is the odd stutter here and there but the phone is still very fast 95% of the time, it helps I am coming from a 6+ iPhone which was getting a little slow, though was still perfectly usable. Overall I am pretty happy so far and love the massive screen in a body the same size as my 6+ all for several hundred less pounds than a iPhone 8+ and nearly £400 less than the iPhone X at those price differences it's hard to fault it. Hopefully it holds up for a couple years without any issues.
I saw the report that Apple has lost market share in the UK (while gaining in the US) can't help but think that UK customers are finding the new iPhone prices just high enough to put them off, and combine that with Samsung's deals on the S8 and S8+ at the moment it's hard to justify the iPhone unless you are a die hard Apple fan or stuck in imessage for your social life.

I'm thinking of doing the same move for the last few weeks and will try and grab an S8 this week.
