**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Yes it's a new version with an all new UI. Looks like Good Lock is back.

You can install the APKs but the lockscreen customisations are buggy as this leaked version is made for Korean ROMs so things are a bit different. Just wait for the Western version to his Galaxy App Store.

Decided to bite the bullet with this Goodlock lark. It's not half bad at all. I wonder why Sammy didn't bake this into TouchWiz/Experience UI.

More details below.

Not really feeling this card/web os style Recents view but we'll see.

Notification pull down can be recolored and a blur effect added.

Tried the new Good Lock, and to be honest, I much prefer Substratum or Swift Installer. The dark theme is much nicer with those and it themes more than just the QS shade. I don't really care about the new style app switcher or the other stuff.

I'm going to uninstall it in a bit. The Lockstar module, which alters the lockscreen overrides the OS's ability to show battery charging estimate times during charging. Not too happy with that as I find it quite useful. I quite like Quickstar, which is TunerUI for Samsung devices however there isn't much here (yet) compelling me to keep it installed.

I'm really considering taking a contract for an S8+ on EE free phone £33 per month unlimited mins and text and 30gb data. Should I do it?! :) If so, without reading the entire thread can anyone help me with a case/screen protector?

I usually don't use a case or anything with my phones but I usually go with a cheapish phone so I'm not too bothered about protecting it. With this phone I'd want to protect it but I'd want something very minimal and slim.

Doing a bit of research I think I'll go with a Rhinoshield Crashguard bumper case, and a dbrand skin on the back. The crash guard looks very protective from drops while being quite minimal and adding little bulk to the phone. Dbrand I've used before and love the design and it will protect against scratches on the back.

As for a screen protector I have no idea. I've never used one because I don't like the look of them, all the ones I've seen look very ugly especially if they get air bubbles under them. I want one which is protective yet almost invisible if possible.

Any suggestions? :)

This camera still amazes me!

Mostly auto with HDR set to on but other times pro with some custom tone adjustments to control highlight and shadow details. I edit in Snapseed or Google Photos.

I use AE lock and use the exposure compensation slider when using auto though, then bring out details in editing afterwards.

Picked up a UAG Plasma case to replace my absolutely godawful Spigen Neo Hybrid. Now THIS feels good!

It is of single piece construction so no clumsy 'play' or loose fit that I had with the Neo. The back isn't slippery and feels really good despite the pronouced designed at the back, the latter isn't for everyone. The sides of the case aren't making contact with my Whitestone Dome but the bottom of the case is making slight contact (probably 0.3mm gap). Time will tell if pressure on the bottom during daily use loosens the Dome. The case buttons have sharp edges and are textured so they take some pressure to actuate, which I am not a fan of - the Neo was perfect in this regard.

Another slight annoyance is that when I am holding my phone upright, my little finger rests under the USB-C connector region. Most cases have sharp edges here (the Neo does) and whilst the Plasma hasn't got 'sharp' edges, there certainly is an edge.

Overall I am pleased. The buttons will take some getting used to - especially since it feels a tad harder to double press the power button in order to start up the camera.

Pics later!

Well it happened, I finally dropped it! It dropped out of my hand whilst I was taking a photo of another E46 M3 on the road I spotted and landed USB port first. The frame has a dent which I might be able to scrape straight as it's aluminium. The side frame has a chip.

The dbrand Dragon skin took the brunt of the shock as it bounced on the back and chopped the skin in some areas. The glass remains scratch free still!

If I can't fix the USB port I might just buy another S8+ and send this off for repair then sell it when it comes back all new.

Since the last update I got recently my 4G symbol still shows even when connected to Wifi.

It's really annoying and off putting. Anyone else noticed this?

Just tried switching Wi-Fi on and off and this doesn't happen on mine. It's either 4G symbol or Wi-Fi symbol.
I'm running what I believe to be the latest software CRF7 if that helps.
Mick

Edit, now I've just tried changing the 'keep data on while using Wi-Fi' setting in developer options, and that shows the 4G together with the Wi-Fi symbol.

I've checked and that is off for me but still showing both icons.
