**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

I'm really torn whether to order the s8+ or wait until October time for the note/pixel 2/iphone.

I'm currently using a 3 year old galaxy note 3 and I've got an itch to upgrade. I did upgrade to the note 7, but I'm sure i don't need to say anymore about that!

You know back when a Samsung bod was quoted saying the S7 Nougat update would be Android 7.1? Well now I know why we only got 7.0.

They were fast tracking the S8, couldn’t bring the Synaptics under-screen FP sensor, nor Android 7.1 to the S8, so naturally it would be a bad business decision to release the latest version of Android for last year’s phone and not be able to have it on the S8, considering the performance difference appear to be very small between the two, and having the exact same rear cameras…

Everything about the new handset(s) is just meh as far as I'm concerned. Granted the S8+ is probably on to a winner merely due to the sheer size of the screen but everything else is just so 'Samsung' for want of a better word. I was an avid user from S2 through to S6 and very briefly S7 but in the end all of Samsung's proprietary apps and features just got on my nerves.
Any Samsung phone I've used I've tried and failed to use Samsung's own apps and inevitably found myself downloading the Google equivalents and running with those, they're much better and easier to integrate.
Same goes for this, if I was to replace my Pixel XL with this I wonder how long Bixby and it's ilk would last until i just reverted to Google Assistant and the Google Inc apps?
And then there's the software updates...

I won't expect 7.1 for the S8 any time soon after release, and then they have to release it for the S7, which is even further away.

And guess what, Oreo is due out Q3 this year anyway, there's no hope of Android O on the S7 this year at all at this rate. Let alone the S8.

The LG G6 already comes with 7.1, and will likely get O shortly after anyway, as will Sony devices whether it's via concept program or stable channels.

We live in sad times indeed.

I am debating on upgrading this from a s6 edge, depends if i can get a good deal with 02. I think if you have a s7 it probably not worth it
Yeah my S6 has a crap battery and the home button is playing up so i'm definitely looking to upgrade. If i had an S7 i wouldn't bother.

The screen on my Nexus 6P got smashed a few months ago. The S8 looks lovely but as I'd be buying sim-free it is rather expensive and I don't know whether I should wait for the Pixel 2 and see if the competition helps drive the S8 prices down. Guess I'll have to stick with the 6P until the prices come down as there's little point in getting an S7 Edge when the S8 is out soon and the Pixel 2 will be out by the end of the year.

I would wait for the Pixel 2, but then there would be something else round the corner too :) i usually just get a upgrade when its due if there is significant difference

Nothing new :p

Samsung have been up to stuff like this for years now when it comes to updates and other OEMs aren't any better really.

I dread to imagine when/if the GS 6 will get 7.1.2?! :o

If you care about updates, you have no option but to stick to nexus/pixel devices, which is why I stick to them.

Looks fantastic... surprised on the lack of progress of grunt from the cpu?

Dare I say it... But think I am going to wait for the iPhone 8... oled, maybe under screen scanner and small bezals will be kinda tempting

It's a bit rubbish the US customers get the SD835 and we get the Exynos processor. Why do phone manufacturers think it's OK to give us lesser specs than US folk get?
