**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

They didn't really, the actually implemented their own version well it's just a shame the Windows Phone platform was pretty much dead at that point.

It's a shame it's not like the asus padfone (they did this first) but I do really like the look of the desktop environment, although there was no mention on how the apps will fair, only that there's a handfull of compliant games....

What colour is everyone going for? I'm liking the Orchid Grey.

Black... like my heart.

The more videos I watch and hands-on reviews I read, the more I'm thinking of staying with my S7 edge and sticking with my sim-free plan for a bit longer. The fingerprint reader placement looks like it'll annoy me very quickly! When's the next phone from Google due out?

Will go see and have a play with one when they are in stores before though :). Samsung store is a short walk away, I guess they'll get them in soon!

Had a play with one today. Got to say it's very nice. Screen is amazing.
Have put my order in. Pick it up on the 20th

I Went with the black one, pick it up from o2 in the 20th,not holding my breath I wouldn't be surprised if it's delayed.

I've met one of the reps today who had s8 unit already, I still got N4 as I wasn't impressed with s7 and n7 at all when they came out, both seemed like more of a gimmicky upgrade than anything else and I didn't like the edge. The s8 looks absolutely fantastic and feels great in the hand as well, much better than the s7 edge does imho as the edges aren't as drastic, they're very refined you don't even notice them. I don't know what the fuss is about about fingerprint scanner, I think it's better at the back on device this size as you can unlock it easier with 1 hand and it does have a little rim around it so that you can feel where it is ( you won't be smudging around camera trying to find it ), the placement feels natural tbh. I haven't tried it myself but the owner said the iris scan is much quicker than the one on the note7 so he hasn't even used the fingerprint scanner and was only using IS.

Looking at specs, we haven't had a lot of benchmarks but it's probably the biggest performance jump since note 4 from what I can see. It's the first time we're moving to 10nm at which point I personally think we'll hit a wall just like with desktop CPUs. I see all phones coming out in 2017 and early 2018 to have the same chipset and whatever comes after will be a minor refresh like SD820>SD821 was. I don't think we'll see a big improvement now until phone makes come up with something new, which probably won't be until around 2020 at least (Note X/foldable phones/surface).

The prices are indeed horrendous but so they were for s7/n7 series, pixel and almost any other phone currently on the market (Samsung, Sony, Google, HTC, iPhone) that's not OP/Huawei/etc.
I think £42-47 is the new £28-32 and phone carriers don't seem to be so keen on giving discounts anymore either - these now have been completely removed from stores ever since phones4u closed down.

Perhaps if you sold the speaker for £70 and earphones for around £60, that would get you a nice chunk of the money back, bringing the cost to something more reasonable.

I spoke to retentions and at the moment they refused to do anything 'because it's pre-order'.

Looking at how Note series has lost performance crown now, I am personally not expecting the Note8(?) to be anything else than a bigger S8 with a stylus and some other random feature that nobody will ever use.

i dont see how its easier to unlock with one hand using the fingerprint sensor. even Marques (MKBHD) had trouble reaching the sensor on the standard s8 (let alone the plus) and that guys got boat hands.

Agreed. The design is in a different league to the S7E. Note 7 was already much nicer to hold than the S7E, I expect this to be slightly better than the N7.

IRIS scanner still looks slow as you have tp power the screen on and swipe up then IRIS unlock.

FACE unlock seems to be quicker as it's power screen on then bam!

Coming from a note, I have to use 2 hands to unlock with fingerprint scanner, perhaps s7 is fine but on a device this size I pretty much prefer having it on the back. I have small hands and didn't have problem reaching it, perhaps u're used to holding the phone differently if u come from smaller phones than note series.

Either way, if the iris scan is as good as they say, it could make fingerprint obsolete anyway.

No, i had a note 4 that i could unlock with one hand fine. I still dont see how putting it that far up the back of the device makes it easier if even people with very large hands have to shift positions but meh face unlock is great anyway.

The cpu grunt side of things seems to be a tiny increase over the exynos in the s7, biggest gain is the GPU.

Apple are still way ahead per core with last year's tech :p
Kind of disappointed to be honest!

Well, it's upgrade day for me but I couldn't justify an S8 over my existing S7 Edge, so moved to a (much) cheaper bundle instead on a rolling 30 day contract.

I'll wait to see what the S9 brings.

£700 is just too much. I think I will hold out and see if the Mi6 is as good as rumoured. Could be as, if not more powerful and feature filled than the S8 for less than half the price.

I have the S7 Edge, this is just rehash case jobby, samsung think we just came in a banana boat, a bad money grabbing launch if it seen one pure turd :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Big problem for me is the finger print scanner positioning. Just not good for my small hands. I also like to lay the phone at my desk and press it and see notifications. The phone looks much nicer than I anticipated but I'll sit this one out and stick with my S7e

I gave in and ordered an S8 ,I was going to give it a miss and keep my S7 edge ,however when I realised that VERY had sent me a 20 % off code ,I thought it would be rude not to use it !!
So its costing me £555.19 inc delivery;)

I have the money for an s8, no problem.

I just cannot justify 700 quid for a phone no matter how hard i try though.

Sorry samsung, it's just too expensive. I'll be keeping the s6 another year.

I can see a lot of people having the same attitude. I really can't see it selling that well at this price. It will surely get a price cut in the near future.

I'm not one of those people who have to have something right now just because it's the latest and greatest though. So i will review the situation in a few months. I'll be keeping an eye on the price :)

Whoever thinks there will be more powerful phones in the next 12 months will be in for a surprise I think. They've just introduced 10nm to the market, it's not going to change in 5 months. It's not like other carriers will be able to conjure new tech out of thin air. S9 will be an 820>821 type of refresh and SX or what ever they call it could be something new in 2019-2020.

You might get more ram in other phones but I wouldn't count on much more than that.

I'm similar to you Ivan, currently have an S6 and due an upgrade (the battery on my S6 isn't doing very well at the moment) but think i will stick with it for the time being and go on to a 30 day rolling contract. I think i got my S6 on £40/month and the S8 is not £50-£60 a month.

There will be plenty of people queuing up for this though as evidenced above
