**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

I'm wondering how hot these things go with DEX, I'm getting the 8+ for the extra space to spread the heat, otherwise I'd get the standard.

Not sure if I prefer the S8+ or the S8....

Had hands on and I dig it a lot.

Never really been a Samsung fan but it's seemingly a nice device!

I thought it'd be too big but the S8 since it's narrow wasnt so bad to use! Does require a bit of stretching and manoovering to reach the top of the screen but it surprised me positivity.

Samsung definitely dropped the ball on not having stereo speakers that's rather basic of them.

Pressure sensitive bottom part of the screen is a nice touch

Yes Brexit would have played a part, but whilst I don't know Samsungs profit margins etc I'm sure they could have priced it lower and still made a respectable profit.

I often wonder if their marketing dept thinks that if they don't include a price-hike or if they don't keep the price higher than the competition, it won't be considered "premium" or market-leading - the pixel is a nice phone but the price is ludicrous, as is that of the s8/s8+ and s7/s7 edge before it, and yet people still flock to buy them. By contrast the Oneplus 3 / 3T are cracking phones that hold their own against anything else on the market, cost upto half the price and yet routinely get overlooked as being a bit second-rate.

I blame Apple for starting it :D

Indeed - whoever manages to steal your phone and then restrain you to the point where they can take still and high quality picture, close up of your face, could just as well bypass the fingerprint scanner by sticking a bit of candle wax on your finger.. that worked as well and nobody complained about this. If anything the latter could be done with you sleeping or unconscious while the picture has to be taken with eyes open.

Yep, personally I can't see it ever getting bypassed in real use.

Yup I know facial recognition has always been easily bypassed with a photo.... which is why I never use it :p Reason I posted it here is because people have said that they would use it instead of the using the ridiculous finger print scanner on the back but it seems odd to use something that can be bypassed even more easily.

Main reason I lock my phone is stop family and friends from messing with my phone and being nosy etc. All of them have easy access to photos of me but not my finger prints! :p

Samsung are charging high prices because they can...people will still buy it, same way Apple can.

Its unfortunate I feel phones in general should be cheaper, but unless we all suddenly stop buying these phones then its not gonna change anytime soon.

I don't get the hate about the finger print scanner, my note 7 iris scanner was brilliant and I hope it's as good or better in the s8, won't use the finger print much at all I doubt
 
So what about cases?

The official ones do look expensive but I like the look of the case that doubles as a stand. Any third party ones that do a similar job?
 
ive just got an s7 (none edge) on ee unlimited txt and calls 2gb data (thats does me) for 20.99 a month, currently got a knackerd s5 and wanted an s8 put price put me off for the performance gains
