The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I really enjoyed last nights flight. Thanks gents.

We were all in ATR 72-500s. I had a successful flight, but my landings are always ropey in this plane. And I had the added pressure of being #1 to a #2 that was on the approach.

Great VATSIM ATC from Aldergrove and East Mid.

Well done V for persistence and continued leanings and thanks to Chaders for answering all those little bitty questions about aviation.

This week we're looking to do a Gamespy session (i.e. it doesn't matter what your flying/ATC standard is...) with strong winds in the North somewhere.

My availability:-
Mon
Weds (poss)
Thurs
Sat Avo (poss)
Sunday - (hopefully Air Tattoo)

Last night was very enjoyable!

I’m sure the AT controller took me in wrong! Cant believe I missed the approach . Anyway still learning on the ATR and Vatsim so will not beat myself up too much!

I did a quick flight before work this morning on Vatsim. I flew TIST(Cyril King Airport) to TNCM (Princess Juliana) on my ATR. A great flight and Princess Juliana is so busy, many people flying into there  It has no ILS so it’s all visual which was fun too. My passengers ran out of sick bags but hey, I managed to land :p

Looking forward to trying that flight in strong winds. We should try land at the most extreme airports around the world (below). Do one a week. Don’t want to stop the ATC training in the UK but just a thought if we finish up early on Vatsim etc.

I’m sure Chaders can confirm if these are still the top 10? I’ve tried 4 of these!

01 - Tenzing-Hillary Airport (LUA), aka Lukla Airport, Lukla, Nepal
02 - Toncontín International Airport (TGU), Tegucigalpa, Honduras
03 - Gibraltar Airport (GIB) aka North Front Airport, Gibraltar
04 - Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM), St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles
05 - Gustaf III Airport (SBH), aka St. Jean Airport, Saint Jean, Saint Barthélemy (Saint Barts)
06 - Kai Tak Airport (HKG), Hong Kong
07 - Courchevel Airport (CVF), Courchevel, France
08 - Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE), aka Vail/Eagle Airport, Gypsum, Colorado
09 - Madeira Airport (FNC), Funchal, Madeira, Portuguese Azores
10 - San Diego International Airport (SAN) - aka Lindbergh Field, San Diego, CA

Mon - I should be around tonight
Tues- In
Wed – Out
Thursday – In
Friday -In
Weekend – In and out so will check the forums

Edit. I just looked again. I think it does have ILS 110.10. On my Navigraph charts it says its not available. Can somebody confirm please.

I'll be available tonight too. About 20:30. I'll be hosting a Gamespy session with strong winds in the North somewhere if nothing else is happening and i'll be on Mumble around the same time. I have 50mb BB so hosting should be ok. Any other settings you guys prefer?

Cheers.

It was a good night except for my FSX spitting it's dummy out when I was 100NM out. I'm on earlys from Wednesday so should be able to get on in the evening depending on what's occurring.

The RAS Lancair is on special offer!!

hmmmm VAT at 20% is added on at checkout.. :(

Gah that brings it into the same price as the PMDG Jetstream.. :(

Do I need either?

I just smile at the radio traffic.

It's meant to be short and punchy and defined by regulatory bodies...

...and then this short and punchyness is shortened again by ATC and pilots ...

I've heard eg QNH is 1013 shortened to 013
and eg 118.600 shortened to 186

What's your take Chaders?

The RT in the states gets a bit daft. It took me a couple of days to tune into their way of doing things. What I don't get is the faster they talk the slower the RT ends up getting as the number of 'say again's goes up.

After you logged off Stevie and I got into our Beechcrafts 350’s(fsx defaults one’s) and flew Gatwick to Bristol. Great little flight, quite a lot of turbulence and we both landed perfectly using ILS. :)

That is a great review and very long! Also tempted at that discounted price but I went and bought the PMDG Jetstream and so glad I did. Only played with it for about an hour or so this morning and after blowing a few engines  (the animation is brilliant. I thought I started a forest fire haha) I’m excited to get stuck in proper.

I have only one issue with it. It has a configuration panel but you can’t change the panel state. So you always start with engines running. I did however find a work around, well two if you want to use different Liveries. You basically start up the tutorial flight which comes with it and once that’s loaded you just move to the airport you want to start your flying, change weather, scenery etc etc. The other work around using different Liveries is a bit more involved and have a link I can share(on home computer).

Loads of tutorials on You Tube which goes through the whole start up process plus the tutorial manual which comes with it, is only about 98 pages and very well written.

I’m glad the weather is pants at the moment, because I will never leave the house at the rate!:p

The Lancair is lush. Yes it's expensive, but I'd say it was the PMDG equivalent of GA addons. I paid the full price a few weeks ago, and dont begrudge what I paid for it. (Though was a bit miffed by the added VAT)...

It looks amazing inside and out, and flying it is amazing fun. It's got a built in 'accufeel' type thing which adds a lot, even if it is quite subtle.

It's been my go-to aircraft for a couple of weeks, either for a longer hour/two hour cross channel jaunt, or a 15-20 session practicing T&Gs.

Am tempted with the Duke as it's on special....
