The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Hahahha What a bunch of nerds.... :p

Now, where's my flask... :o

Remember I was saying, that I've been a few times to the viewing spot at Heathrow on top of terminal 3(if they still have it,)

I have seen that guy(in the video)ever time I've been there, hahaha how funny! :D

Chaders I thought you had fantastic speakers :p

Edit: I guess they don't after reading Ringo's post :(

Finally got into vatsim but I'm gonna have to learn fast. I haven't a clue how to tune into atc. I mean, where do you input numbers like 126.567?

Ah, sorted it now.

Is there any article on taxing? I mean, I can fly but the taxing is alien to me. I just usually start from runway lol. I get lost around these big airports.

Have a look at THIS LINK. It should take you to a page with a list of airports on it. CLick on one of them, then on AERODROME CHART on the next page. You should see a nice PDF of your airport that you can use like a road map.

Chaders has given you some good advice there. You'll definitely need the charts when taxiing on VATSIM, as you'll be told to take a certain route to a holding point for the active runway. Another good piece of advice would be for you to get addon scenery like UK2000/Fly-Tampa which greatly enhances how the airports look - if you're not wanting to spend money, you can go on AVSIM's File Library and download AFCADs. Any AFCAD by Ray Smith you can't go wrong with. I mention addon-scenery/AFCADs because the default FSX AFCADs can be a bit wrong.

Some other tips for taxiing, don't exceed 20 knots generally. If you're backtracking from a runway, or on a very long straight of a taxiway with not much traffic around you can push 30 knots. Also, if you're turning 90 degrees from one taxiway to another, don't exceed 10 knots. Can take a while getting used to taxiing, especially if you don't stick to a single aircraft. Some aircraft will taxi on idle thrust, others (like the 747-400 at MTOW) you need 40% N1 to even get moving on.

The biggest thing with Vatsim is the learning curve. It's easy to forget how those slides didn't make much sense in the first few weeks, but act as a great reference tool as you progress.

So, if you don't want to read, ask questions, and we'll give simple answers.

Taxiing:
If you're in 'big tin' you would start at the terminal. In FSX, you choose your parking area/Gate number in the drop down after choosing your airport.

If you're in a little plane, Cessna, Mooney etc, you'd normally start in GA (General Aviation) parking or near the fuel pump.

Taking Bristol EGGD as an example, GA Parking is south of the airport (Bristol Aviation) and the terminal for heavies is north.

For tonight, make sure you have Mumble voice client installed, headset and mic, all that you need to connect to VATSIM and a Gamespy account wouldn't go amiss.

I'll be online 7.45ish tonight.

I still have the throttle issue. :( It only happens when my ps3 pad is connected. It just stays at the half way point. For example, I'll apply full thrust and it will just go back to the half way point.

only thing I can think of is some sort of conflict with the ps3 pad?

V and I are online. We're initially going to do VFR hops between Cardiff and Bristol on VATSIM. We're both on Mumble. Feel free to join at what ever level you're at.

Fixed it (I think). Lets hope it stays this time.

Anyway, I have a question, when sending flight plan to atc, how are you supposed to know how many hours of fuel you have? I only know what I have in gallons.
