The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Oh yes, talking about squawkbox. If you don’t know what RWY to land on and there is no ATIS or ATC at that particular airport. Type into the text box .metar and the airport code. E.g. .metar EGLL it comes up with the current weather wind speed etc.

You can’t do it for FSInn.

Great flying session last night.

Under the watch of Chaders, we took off and flew the approach into Aspen (KASE). This is the weekend ski resort for the rich.

Here's a youtube video of rw 15 approach:

We flew our Caravans and did two approaches each. I never normally head out of the UK, but this was great fun and a nice new thing learnt for me. Thanks gents.

Yes excellent night of flying last night. Learnt a lot about a LOC/VOR approach. Thanks Chaders

My first Landing I bounced about 4 times, over ran the runway, did a 360 and almost took out the hut at the end of the airfield. So not too bad.:p

2nd landing was much better and maybe just one or two people reaching for the sick bags!:)

A little confused by the first vid  Was he meant to have missed the approach? Why did he not go to the right like the chart tells you too?

Great ski runs on the right....:D

after years away from PC I have recently built a new system and I wanna get back into flight sim, I have bought FSX Gold and just wondering if theres any tips to get some decent aircraft and scenery as seen here

MrMoonX, I'm glad you've rekindled the interest.

1. Rex Essentials is what give your scenery and weather a boost.
2. There are some excellent third party planes. I recommend the Real Air's Lancair Legacy, Flight1's Britten Norman Islander, Anything by PMDG. And I own the ifly 737 which I love.

Are you interest in flying light or heavy aircraft?

Welcome, lots of people here to help and give advice. So just ask.

If you getting back into it, then I’m guessing you have some knowledge?

I would go for the excellent iFly, PMDG, Captain Sim, Level D just to name a few. Great aircraft to fly and very enjoyable.

A massive choice when it comes to Scenery.

My favourite is Orbx, they do some fantastic products. Mainly in Oz and the US but I know they working on some airports in the UK.

UK2000, a big range of UK airports and airfields

Play Sims do all the VFR Photographic Scenery but can be bought here http://www.flightstore.co.uk/flight-simulation-c8/scenery-add-ons-c191#c426

Aerosoft , do loads of European Airports.
Fly Tampa do some great stuff.

Plenty out there, google is your friend with this.

I also have some links so you can tweak your FSX and make changes to your cfg file.

Last thing is. Sign up to Vatsim and Gamespy and come join a few of us flying online. We get online at least twice a week and once on the weekend if people are about. It really makes such a difference. We mix it up too. We do VFR, IFR, difficult landings etc.

We use Mumble so we can all chat and help, laugh etc(look at my last post regarding landing in Aspen)

Hope that helps?

Edit: forgot about REX.....excellent product.

I think in the first vid he performed a circle to land. This procedure is usualy used to land on the other end after an approach. Guessing in a jet the final dirty dive is too much so he descends visual with the ground in a circuit. I'll do some further research in Aspen and maybe we'll head back in faster aircraft to spice it up ;).

Next time I'm on we can chat about circling and other challenges.

I've just been learning more about VOR, DME and ILS. I'm starting to understand more. I just don't understand flight plans. For example, a flight from heathrow to schiphol, has the following 'route' and 'remarks/comment':

Route: N0395F230 BPK M185 CLN L620 REDFA/0040

Remarks: EET/EHAA0021 REG/PHBGB OPR/KLM DAT/V DOF/120704 RVR/200 RMK/TCAS EQPD

What does all that mean? It just looks gibberish to me. I understand it may seem stupid to you who know but I'm just so confused lol.

N0395F230
NO395 tells us they will be flying with a total airspeed of 395kts and F230 indicates a cruise level of 23,000ft.
This is the identifier for the Brookmans Park VOR
This is the identifier for an airway which is basically a pre-determined motorway in the sky that links lots of waypoints together. This is telling you to fly via the airway M185 to,
which is the identifier for the Clacton VOR
Again this is another airway, telling us to fly via L620 to,
which is a GPS waypoint located out in the North Sea

As for the remarks, they just highlight the registration of the aircraft and what equipment it has amongst other things which tbh are only important in the real world.
