The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Chadders, love that last pic.

Have you also got pictures of same with:

1) Thrust reversers deployed
2) A dirty fly-by

Hi mate,

I have got one of a dirty fly-by but it just looked like a go around in a screen shot. I'll stick it up later and also one with the reversers out. You should check out the preview forum over there. Some really nice pics on the thread.

I have the Airbus X but can't get the thrusts to work. Is there a way you can use the keyboard like you can for default planes?

Hi Jason,

Both the Airbus X and Airbus X Extended require the use of a control axis for the throttles. Because of the way the fly by wire system is simulated the keyboard won't work. The Aerosoft forum is the best place for support on their products, they are very speedy with support.

Time to take a break from tubes and show some military formations, enjoy:

Doesn't look like I'll be on until a bit later. Just started cooking dinner. I'll check mumble later. Next week I should be on Mon,Wed,Thu if people are about.

Chaders, sorry about Sunday mate. I got stuck watching the brilliant closing ceremony.

I'm about tonight, usual time about 8ish.

No worries I did the same..LOL I logged onto mumble and saw you wasn't around so figured you'd be watching in.

I can't get on tonight as I'm about to go to work. I should be on Wed and Thur though. If you fancy something a bit different how about a trip to Nice? Some entertaining approaches there.

Tonight will only be after 9.30 sometime but Thursday sounds good.

Nice sounds good. We can also try Madeira, that is a VOR/DME approach.

Sure, the two aircraft are; Razbam - A-7 Corsair II Volume III (bought when in sale for $5 online), and Dino Cattaneo T-45C Goshawk which is freeware and can be found on most flightsim libraries.

9:30 might be a bit late for me tonight but tomorrow sounds good. How about Paris-Nice in the 73's? We'll be able to chat about some of those features you was wondering about. We'll do either of the VOR DME approaches (depending on the wind) they both require a healthy bit of handflying for the turn to final.

You know you're ill when FSX takes a back seat..

I've been knocked out with illness this week so apologies for lack of postings and flights.

This weekend looks busy too with a wedding and relative visits so, will hopefully be back in full next Tuesday.

Hello mate, Chaders and I were talking about you last night(all good I promise ;)) we thought you were on holiday actually? I hope you feeling better?

We did a flight from Paris to Nice last night. A very good flight. Chaders was going to show me a VOR/DME approach but we ended up doing a ILS landing. We also went through all the different settings in the FMC and what they actually do and the purpose of each.

I’m around most of the weekend, if you get a hour break let me know. :p

Has anyone experienced any odd texture flickering with runways and taxiways when using REX? I think it may have happened before as well, but not 100% sure, everything else graphically is fine.

On another note was having a good flight from Bournemouth to Schiphol until it FSX crashed half way between the UK and Holland :(

Soya, once again, very very good.

Hey Blue, how you feeling mate? Hope you all better?

Are we flying tonight? I’m around tonight and should be on about 8. Hope to see you and chaders later and anybody else who wants to join us?

Hello V,

I'm nearly better. Thank you for asking. I doubt I'll fly tonight. I'm back at work and feeling drained.

I hope you're well?

I should be back online on Thursday if anyone is about?

OK be like that, I will fly on my own then ;)

Yes glad you feeling better mate.

Thursday should be fine. Would still like to do a VOR/DME landing in the 73

Hi guys,

Been out of the FS loop for awhile but considering building a new system. I am currently using an outdated AMD 5800+ system with 2GB and 8400GS graphics, barely runs FS2004 and even then have to turn a few settings down.

I am blown away by some of these screens shots of FSX, especially Soya's pictures. I have used FS since 98 and the improvements are huge.

My main questions is that I am reluctant to spend £800+ on a system specifically for this, i'm trying to find the right balance for running FS without going all crazy on hardware, thus my question; am I better going for an i3 system which would be ultimately decent and sticking with FS2004, or would I be required to push for a i5 and decent graphics card to get the best out of FSX? The last time I tried FSX on my current system it was unbearable so took it off immediately.

I'm unsure if I can build a system for say £500-600 that would run FSX at a satisfactory standard with addons

Any help apreciated

Hello SOOTY172,

There some similar posts regarding your budget for an FSX build here:-

If you're using one monitor, then it's all about the CPU speed.

Also, you need to define your 'satisfactory'.. Flying from an addon Heathrow in multiplayer through a snow storm would kill frame rates. But the same PC would cope happily flying e.g. from Glasgow in a Cessna.

Water effects on high wouldn't be needed if you weren't flying near water. You wouldn't want to see trees on autogen if you're 40,000 ft up above the clouds. So tweak your config for different scenarios on a lower spec PC.
