The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Morning all,

I can't fly tonight, but can do Thursday. I have my next P1 session tomorrow.

As for the coverage, I know that the ATR 72-600 does transmit the GPS data but it's siblings don't. Therefore you wouldn't see them on the the spotting sites.

My real-world flight to Cardiff didn't happen yesterday. Damn you low cloud cover and fog... :p

Thursday should be ok around 8ish again?

I’m going to try look out for the ATR 72-600 on flightradar?

I was going to ask you about your flight yesterday. Its it pity it didn’t go ahead. I’m going to leave my lesson until spring now. It's valid for a year, so have plenty of time.

Happy birthday(today?) I’m still keen to get the Quality Wings BAe 146, anybody flying this?

I agree not a great flight last week. I know why I messed up my ILS landing. Missed a setting on my comms panel. :(

Did a flight a from Lisbon to Gatwick on the weekend but got as far as Western France and good old FSX decided to just stop .....also did a flight yesterday from Cairo to Paris in the 747 with Fedex and no issues there. A 4 hour flight so once I was up and cursing sat back and put my feet up. :D

I’m still thinking of doing my controller training. Just finding the time is a challenge these days!

Blue I think you would be brilliant as a piloting mentor. Go for it!!

Please enjoy another batch of my shots, this time featuring the photoreal scenery of Scotland from Playsims, with various aircraft from my hangar.

Soya, I noticed that you are running the end mod; have you suffered the constant crashing widely experienced when using enb?
I have a fairly expansive fsx install, lots of addon aircraft, scenery and airports and I generally don't get crashes very often, however after trying several versions of enb I found that they all cause fsx crashing frequently when activated
I'm currently run a similar system to you and wondered if u have a stable enb if you would mind emailing it to me along with you fsx cfg file so I could compare them to my own (as your GenX scenery seems much sharper at longer distances than mine)

Cheers

Nothing to do with the above poster, but I've got a few things to sort this week and then on holiday next week, so I will be available to fly again from 12th Nov.

For those that still haven't bitten, Vuvuzela, Chaders, ringo747 amongst others fly on Vatsim. You need a Vatsim account, HeadsetMic, Gamespy a/c optional, FSX / FS9, XP10, Mumble Voice Client. Having 3rd party scenery and airports helps, but is not necessary.

It takes virtual flying to the next level with real-world procedures, live Air Traffic Control and live traffic.

For the rest of you just wanting a 'decent FPS' to play with on FSX, just post all your questions here and we'll all do our best to help. I think we've repeated ourselves enough for the members that don't want to read 87 pages, so a few more won't hurt. :D

Topics could include flying VOR to VOR in the default Cessna.
How to use the FMC in the 737.
How to read airport charts from Nats.
How to perform an ILS landing in the default planes.
Why I can't put all my sliders to the right in FSX.
Etc.

I agree with Blue, we need to get more people flying on Vatsim. We know there are a lot of you flying and a lot of you who look at this thread. It really does take FSX to the next level. Blue and Chaders are great teachers. I have really learnt a lot from them both. We do a couple of hrs a week, flying around the UK or Europe. We mix it up nicely too, from Cessna’s to 737’s to landing the Caravans in Aspen etc. It would be great to get more people to come join us.

I bought the QualityWings Ultimate 146/Avro RJ Collection over the weekend and what a great plan to fly. IMO it’s right up there with the PMDG and iFly. They just released a new service pack to fix a number of issues they had when it was released a couple of months ago.

Does anybody use a 27’ monitor for FSX? I got one a few weeks ago and my fsx is just not running like it did on my 24’. :( I’m still at res 1080 but I’m sure I need to change something in my cfg file to tell it that its now on a 27’ or doesn’t it make any difference because I’m still using the same resolution?

I like the look of that RJ. In that video they completely missed the touchdown zone at LCY. :p

Anyway, I don't know about your monitor. Do you fly in 'full screen' or windowed mode?

A couple of quotes from avsim forums:

And do you also have 1680 x 1050 selected in FSX...? Because that should simply do the trick. I have a 1680 x 1050 monitor and I run FSX at 1680 x 1050. Looks perfect.

WideViewAspect=True only works in windowed mode. It certainly displays a lot more of my cockpit when it's set to true. But if I go full screen it goes back to the same way it was when set to false in windowed mode.

Not as bad as my landing on Saturday. I think I bounced it a couple of times!! It’s a lot of fun mate(the few hrs I had this weekend with it)I know you were thinking of getting the PMDG MD-11. I would get this first or get both and we can struggle together lol ;)

In fsx, I have 1920x1080x32 selected. I thought this was the standard setting for a 1080 monitor? Should I be at 1680 x 1050 rather  I fly in windowed mode.

Yes I have that set to True too.

The MD11 is on my shopping list, but I'm still holding out for the FSLabs A320.

And not that it would be cost-effective from Cardiff to Edinburgh, but the t7 when it comes out has to be worth a punt.

As for the monitor, I have an Apple 23" and things look fine on there in Windowed mode.

Is the FSlabs A320 the one chaders been beta testing?

Cheers, I will have another read. I might put something on the AVsim forums.
You not flying at all this week mate?

I thought Chaders was testing the Wilco one? Could be wrong tho!

Tomorrow I'm off to see Skyfall, courtesy of work. On Wednesday T'wife is to hospital for day surgery on her back. I might speak to a senior Dr to see if we can knock her out of the rest of the day with a strong sedative, then I can fly!
Thursday is tentative based on the above.
Friday is pack for holiday on the Saturday. Off for a week.

Easjet A319 to Funchal.

So when I'm back, I can base our first few flights on FNC/LPMA. :D

Shannon and Cork airport addons might finish this off nicely! :o

its so fun flying at JFK or new york area today and yesterday, 40 knots gusts i had a hard time getting the ngx down :D

I used the micro light last night in New York and that was fun. Saying that, it didn’t blow me around as much as I thought it would. In Rex I choose real weather and on the ground it was only about 35Kt

I created a new cfg file last night. I went through Kosta’s tweaks from scratch. I’m a running a 120hz monitor so I also had to make some changes in Nvidia Inspector.
It's running so much better, my clouds and graphics looks great. At Gatwick(I have Gatwick extreme) I used to get about 10fps now I get about +-23 and when I leave Gatwick I get a constant 30fps.

Nice pics Blue

I’m loving the BAe Avro, did a flight from London City to Zurich. Lon_S_Ctrl was online so they look after London City if ATC are not online.
Zurich was online too but went off line about 30min out :(.

I was having some fuel issues, so need to read up a bit more about that. I also get a warning light when I put on the anti ice for the engines. Something about engines are open

Some photos to follow....

I also started the process to becoming a controller last night, passed my S1 exam, just need to join the correct area now, going to try join the London atc. I also did the P1(pilot)exam and failed that miserably  11/20 I found it really hard lol.

Most of the questions I got wrong were around IMC and VMC? I got “what is the ground controller job” I really thought I knew that one. Blue you have gone through that so many times.

The other one I got wrong was, “when can you fly on Vatsim using military callsign” Had know idea!

V, I failed my first p1 theory test. Lots of bits that I didn't know esp. Military. Apparently you can fly under a military callsign when you join a military approved Vatsim group. And under their watch only.

This stops you flying a Typhoon at 6000 ft, mach 1 intercepting Cessnas etc.

I await the photos..

I recently bought the Guernsey scenery and my PC is back to a crawl. An FSX island populated with dense scenery surrounded by high res water kills my frame rates. Damn you Channel Islands.. :p

Hey guys,

First of i know nothing about flight sims and i have no interest in them. Sorry.

But a friend of mine does and he loves them to bits, so i wanted to help make his experience the best i can.

Without going into too much detail, what top 5 mods should i get to help improve his experience?

He loves the flight sim and he wants me to install it on my computer which is very powerful.

So anything you can suggest would be appreciated.

Thanks.
