The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

PC Pilot is a good read with a nice mix of articles, although it can be annoying that they'll take a few pages trying to help a reader that has some obscure PC setup. They mainly cover FSX, but try to include XP10, FS2004 etc.

Here's a few images from me. The first two were from the Vatsim Xmas Shopper event to the Channel Islands:-

Here we are over BHD. There's some faster jet traffic above me going my way:

And there's the island:

And for something completely different, here's the Ireland GenX scenery:

Crazy vid.

Ringo, I did my Ireland border sortie and the Republic scenery starts 'dead-on' the border according to Plan-G, so no N.I overlap I'm afraid.

Enjoy your evenings tonight and we'll hopefully get more momentum for virtual flying in 2013!

Here are a few photos.

The first lot are P3D and the 2nd lot FSX.

I see Orbx have made a announcement on some new software called FTX Global

http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/index.php

Happy New Year all.

P3D

Very nice, thanks Vuvuzela.
You said the second lot is FSX (but whatabout the planes themselves?).

And P3D is a scenery add on? Does it have improved airports in it as well?

Thank you.

The planes I've used in both sets are...

Carenado 152
Carenado Cherokee 180F
QualityWings Ultimate 146/Avro RJ Collection

Rex, Gatwick and London City Extreme. Orbx England.

Prepar3d is a new fight Sim from Lockheed Martin. They bought the code from Microsoft and starting to develop it more.

Still a lot more to do with it but a big update in the near future.

Details below.

FTX Global looks interesting!

It does indeed. It will be so much better than the standard FSX/P3D scenery.

Well, after so much time without a joystick I have finally got one and installed FSX. Currently messing with the options to get it looking nice and run smooth. I haven't got the most powerful PC but currently I have got all settings at Ultra High and it seems to run fine with only a little loss in frames when I bank the plane. Over all its very playable.

Just about to install GEX Europe to see how much better the ground detail is and create a small quick flight plan in the Cessna. Probably from Manchester to East Midlands. Shouldn't take too long.

As this thread is big I found it a bit awkward to find out what sort of addons are best to install. Currently I have the Addit! addon manager and have installed some East Midlands airport pack with better detail and the like.

Anything else I should looking out for including scenery packs. I want to make the game look good. Preferably free although some cost is allowed..

Ok so whats P3D about exactly? Is it an environment set up by Lockeed which you can log onto and fly? (the usage agreement states it cannot be used for "personal/consumer entertainment" :?

P3D is essentially a FSX 10.something. It is derived from ESP, Microsoft's commercial offering, and currently something like SP3 or SP4 which MS never made. I don't have it but did try a free trial and it didn't make a huge difference to me on a pretty fast PC.

As it's essentially a fork of FSX 99% of FSX addons work in it, often it's only the license that forbids the use rather than a technical issue. Like the Lockheed license I guess each person decides how comfortable they are with the rules and how well they fit them.

I'm holding out to see what V2.0 brings. If you buy the current Academic license LM have stated there will be charge for the V2 upgrade. V2 should bring lots of useful enhancements including DX11 support. However there is no news of whether that will affect 3rd party addons. Not sure is 64 bit is planned either but it needs it IMHO.

Ok got it, thanks.

But concerning License use. How do they know if you are using it for "fun" or for "education".
I dont get this point genuinely.
Personally I am using FSX to acquaint myself with aviation in the hope that one day when I start actual flying lessons, the transition would be a lot smoother.
