The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Hey dude when you have a moment could you tell me how to use this please? Ive extracted it into Program Files and then used the ADD button to point it to FSX. All that worked great and it created some folders (injFX_Settings, injFX_Shaders) in FSX and dumped d3d9.dll in there etc.

But I see no change in the sim. To see if the tool was working I tried some extreme settings (like Sepia power to max) but no change - even in fullscreen.

:(

Am I doing this right?

Thanks!

Try pressing Pause key on keyboard when in game; that is the default on/off toggle button for FXAA tool (you can then unpause FSX by pressing P key)

Virtual Postcard Moment

Ola and greetings from Madeira.

So our friend arrived from Gatwick today. So with any excuse in mind, I dragged the wife to the airport well ahead of time. We parked up - 1 Eur / hr. We got the lift to the 3rd floor where they have a cafe with fresh pastries. 4 Eur bought us 2 x coffees and 2 x cakes. UK Airports take note!

Right on this floor you have access to the viewing terrace. This is a wide open roof space overlooking the airfield. I was in heaven!

So here's a few real-world images from today:-

Multiplayer Cockpit and EFB?:

Multiplayer cockpit is on our list of things to incorporate into the NGX/777/744v2.0- but we do not have an ETA. More than likely this will be something we surprise you with one day with an unannounced drop-in... (yes- that is a hint... subtle, huh?) On the topic of EFB: To provide the true functionality of an EFB there are a couple of technical hurdles we need to clear. All of these hurdles involve the use of data for airport layouts, charts, navigation data, and tabular aircraft performance data for the entire range of PMDG products. Current list price to license all of that information for our own internal use is about $5,250,000. Ryan won't cough up his credit card- so we are working on alternatives... To explain it differently: An EFB is a tool that contains a TON of data that is used by the flight crew. The concept of displaying charts is really quite minor in terms of what EFBs provide to pilots in the air. While we can extract some of the data from within our own simulation of the 777 and NGX, the vast majority of it needs to be licensed for the specific purpose of having it available in an EFB simulation. This is an extremely expensive endeavor and we are still working to help some of the data providers understand precisely what it is that we are looking to accomplish... The process continues- but eventually we would like to offer a unified EFB that works with each of these three (and some future) PMDG airliner simulations... We'll let you know when we break through the barriers currently in the path...

It sure does. I wasn't planning on buying this in the hope that the 747 may follow soon but I think I'm going to have to get it!

Chaders, any chance you were flying out of BFS this evening? Heard a familiar voice (or so I thought) on the scanner on the EXS328.

It was indeed me mate!! That's hilarious. It was the last one of a four sector day.

Thank goodness you weren't chatting up that redhead at Manchester Barton Tower over the airwaves. You never know whose listening! :D

ghutchison14078 - loving those pics.

T7 = Amazing!! They should stop talk of the EFB. The price is only going to escalate with that type of 'extra'.

And if that's the case, I wonder if they've simulated the ovens in the galley? Or you can specify the denier of the stockings the female cabin crew are wearing.

When are we next flying? :D

Guys, I break off work this Friday for 10 days and would like to use some of the time off to get into Vatsim flying with you fine gentsi...if you'll have me :D ;

What do I need to have in place for getting started??

Taking time off work to learn Vatsim is very admirable.

So in the first instance, do you want to fly light or heavy aircraft?
And Do you have a mic and headset?

Having not 'flown' for 2 weeks, I took the 737-700 from Glasgow down to Cardiff. My descent speeds and levels were appalling. :( I need some more practice.

Haha...nice quote edit I see there :D

Probably best to start on light GA for a Vatsim virgin then work my way up to the big stuff

I have set of Roccat Kave's

That's great. We'll start simple and build from there.

You'll need:-
  • Mumble Voice Client
  • FSInn or Squawkbox (I use FSInn)
  • Plan-G
  • The default Cessna 172
  • To sign up with Vatsim

Things that will help:-
  • Knowing the phonetic alphabet
  • Knowledge of the Cessna, flying, changing radio frequencies, twiddling knobs etc.
  • Choosing a cool but non-offensive registration/call sign for your plane
  • G-TART, G-HUTC, G-ARSZ etc

Then let us know your availability and we'll see whose about to fly n' teach you the ropes.

The important things are being able to connect to Vatsim through a client with your credentials, hearing them and them hearing you.

I can do this Thursday, Saturday Late Afternoon, Somepoint on Monday, Tuesday eves, Thursday eves.

Cool, I'll get that lot sorted after work tonight

With regards to Plan-G; my FSX rig only has one monitor (for the time being)

So I was going to run Plan-G on my laptop networked to FSX rig, is it best to use the Simconnect or FSUIPC connection modes???

To use Plan-G networking, you can use FSUIPC if you have WideFS or you can use Simconnect, which I had difficulty setting up, but it hangs together 90% of the time.

If you don't have a monitor, but have a tablet PC, you could use that as a 2nd monitor.
