The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I've been using FSCommander for a few years now. I'll likely change to PFPX when it's eventually released. Be warned though, the AIRAC on stand alone programmes need updating regularly, otherwise you'll fall foul of ATC when flying IFR online.

Yes CPU is still of major importance in FSX but the GPU is still responsible for handling textures/shaders etc. Considering most new aircraft/scenery uses much higher detailed textures then before, I am pretty sure that is handled through the GPU. The more VRAM, faster memory bandwidth, higher shader handling etc, should afaik handle things like blurries (which are much more common with higher scenery textures and flying at higher speeds), dealing with texture popping and the all important cloud/vapor handling (which is why in the past NVIDIA cards where always better then AMD cards due to more shader units being on their GPU's thus cloud handling was smoother whereas AMD always tended to suffer from slight micro stutters when flying with heavy cloud cover).

Here is a comparison between the two cards http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-7990-vs-GeForce-GTX-TITAN-specs but like I said, I just wanted to find any info if anyone had actually used that card in FSX as it may not be any good at all for FSX. Also, I didn't know NVIDIA was bringing out TITAN 2.0 soon, I'd be interested to see if that can handle FSX better at all. Again, CPU is still the major bottleneck but I am talking in terms of the higher resolution of textures that FSX has to deal with nowadays, so it be good to find out what the best CPU/GPU is with these new cards coming out. It might still be a case of sticking with a low/middle end GPU and getting the fastest clockable CPU you can get. My biggest gripe with FSX atm is indeed texturing, both blurries (which really annoy the hell out of me) and texture popping, be great if a better GPU could solve that (if it is indeed the GPU that is responsible for that).

Lets keep our ears to the ground over the next few weeks/months on the new GPUs and see what we can find out about them.

Was sifting through some screen shots and I was thinking of a song, "Leaving on a Jet plane" was written by John Denver in 1966 and here are some of the lyrics and pictures to go with it, enjoy:

All my bags are packed I'm ready to go

I'm standin' here outside your door

I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin' it's early morn

The taxi's waitin' he's blowin' his horn

Already I'm so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me

Tell me that you'll wait for me

Hold me like you'll never let me go

Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane

Don't know when I'll be back again

Oh baby, I hate to go

Any fsx gurus know why sweetfx might be causing this?

I have in game AA and AF switched off but enabled in CCC.

With sweetfx gone and in game filters, the game is fine.

This is a stock FSX SP2 install.

Please keep images to below 1280px wide or post in spoiler tags like I've done for you above - Rilot

If you enlarge you will see that everything is pixellated and grainy. I'm sure it's something simple but i havent been able to discover it.

Hey guys, ultra noob question, but is there an easy way to plan your flights?

I remember printing off hundreds of sheets explaining how to input the proper numbers of the airports and runways etc, but that seems like really hard work!

I just want to fly around a bit and do a short flight from say London to Paris, is there an easy mode?

Ideally i'd like to follow the satnav, not hoops in the sky.

Cheers :)

Didnt know you were an aviation fan Rav.

daft question, you do have the in game settings all set like the 'global texture res' and 'hi res cockpits' etc. right?

Smashing shots Soya,

Are you using ENB or FXAA tool for your visuals??

Great song and fantastic photos.

I do need to look into the FXAA tool.

Thanks guys, I used ENB for most of those shots, mostly default setting some with minor changes. The biggest variation, which you may already have spotted, is various sky themes via REX, having different skies (various blues and intensity) can make a big difference in the way ENB handles things, even without ENB, the result can be great if you just catch the right angle & lighting.

Hi Guys

I'm stuck between a rock and a stone here. Just upgraded to a 3570K (@4.2Ghz), Z77 and 8GB 1600mhz RAM with a ATI 4850 now as the bottleneck.

I'm ready to buy a new GFX, however I am literally banging my head against the desk here deciding between the GTX660 or the HD7850.

I'm running off 1 monitor at present (possibly a 2nd in the future) and resolution is at 1920x1080.

Addons - Ultimate Traffic 2, several Mega Airports, GEX Enhanced, Ultimate Terrain....

I have spotted that the cloud rendering is better on the Nvidia, however it's pretty much neck and neck from what I can see.

Which card should I buy?

Many Thanks in advance :)

I've only ever heard nVidia recommended for FSX. Go for it!

There's been loads of new faces and activity in this forum recently. I'm pleased that people are still loving FSX.

In this Bi-monthly PC Pilot, there's lots of love for XP10 including a review of the 'other' T7. There's also an impressive looking FSX Orbx 'Bella Coola Airport'. At £20 and textures levels down to atomic levels, it looks worthwhile.

Remember that flying on-line add a new dimension. And addons like Rex, Aivlasoft EFB and Plan-G are more than worthwhile.

Keep the screenshots coming.

Andrew.
