The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Vu and I flew online last night.

We flew from Cardiff to Glasgow. V in his Airbus and Me in my 737-600.

It wasn't without issues.

My hardware was a little flakey. I lost my rudder pedals. This also meant I had no braking. After t/o, a/p wouldn't engage as I couldn't get my trim right.

Fortunately no ATC was online en-route. There was a tremendous headwind which really slowed my progress in the climb. I engaged Autoland for the landing at Glasgow it it touched down perfectly.

It's good to get these gremlins out before the weekend.:p

Does anybody know if the RealAir Duke and Legacy are compatible with the Saitek Pro panels - specifically the Multi, Radio and Switch panels??

I don't see why they wouldn't be. Several people in the Bristol Flight Sim Group use the Saitek stuff and I've not heard any complain much with the radio modules.

I personally gave up with the Switch Panel as in certain circumstances it would crash FSX. I think it's a plane and driver combination problem where if you don't have the physical and virtual switches aligned changing a physical switch causes an error. I had this problem a lot with the SF260 and putting the gear up. I seem to recall one other in the group can't start one of the LionHeart Creation planes using the switch panel (the Mag/Start rotary switch)

I managed to get some GoFlight modules years ago cheap and the radio / nav aid stuff works with them on all planes I've tried. In fact in some cases you can use the panels to cheat. I used to fly the Chipmunk but is has no DME capability but I found by setting a frequency with the GoFlight kit I could then read it back :)

There are some 3rd party drivers available for the Saitek stuff, I think they're called SPAD, but I'd passed on my Switch Panel before I became aware of them. I don't know if they'd fix the problem I was seeing.

I am going to Skiathos in a month, 30 min by ferry from here :D :D

You know where i am gonna be, right next to the fence lol

The last days i am doing lots of VFR from LGTS-LGSK-LGMY-LGIR, nice and challenging approaches especially with the regular north winds which blow all summer long

@Dappo, have you checked out the freeware photoscenery for the whole of Greece?

I am also interested for any freeware photoscenery for the Uk, if there is any. I have also found nice Photoscenery for Spain.

PS. i need a larger HDD :P

It's all gone a bit quiet on the shared cockpit front. I wouldn't say it was seamless as the server/host had to open ports up on their router. We also had the occasional episode when the student pilot was in control other players didn't see the plane update correctly. If the instructor took over the plane jumped to where it should be and updates worked ok. Only saw this a few times. Sadly I can't remember if it always coincided with the game host also being the instructor.

For the above; instructor is the person sharing a plane, student is the one who joins the instructor. Potentially both are different people to the server host.

Obviously if there are just the instructor and student doesn't matter if no one can see the plane update ok ;) At the Bristol Group I'm not aware of anyone using VATSIM at the same time but I believe they do this quite often in the CIX VFR Club for training purposes.

NP, if you want to try it sometime give me a shout. Sadly Saturday would be my first chance though. I know you'll be at Weston but if you wanted to try it from there while connected to Vatsim...... ;)

I'll try and say hi on Sunday when I'll be there.

Yes, we can try it next week if you're about.

Ideally, people that want to fly on Vatsim for the first time can do the piloting and the other can do the radios.

See you Sunday. By the sounds of it, we'll be on 4G connectivity!
