I use MyTraffic 5.4b. It has loads of airlines, even obscure regional ones and they are all placed correctly.

What are you sliders set to mate within FSX please?

Flying on Vatsim, I'm not sure if its really worth it? Saying that I do like to seeing aircraft at the different airports. UK2000 have just the right amount!

I have my AI traffic slider set at 30%. In MyTraffic 5.4b at 30% you will only see airliners based on real world data.

Do you guys leave AI on while connected to VATSIM? Don't you end up with traffic conflicts when the AI (the controller knows nothing about) get in your way?

Thats why I said in my post above is it really worth having a AI package if you fly on Vatsim because of the point you just made Picnic.

I mainly fly out of Gatwick and it can get very busy once you connect to Vatsim. I would like to have traffic and some of the smaller airports I fly too.

I have been a long term fan of flight sim and looking to get back into it. I'm currently playing it on my 2011 MacBook Pro 15". Seems to get reasonable results but I'm contemplating upgrading my old desktop. Been looking at the following and wonder how FSX will run.

Intel i7 3770K 3.5GHz
16GB Kingston HyperX Ram
1GB ASUS GeForce 460 GTX (using this from my old desktop)
Probably put the OS on an SSD

Thanks

The Rhön and Wasserkuppe - Germany

I visit this area of Germany quite often as I have family living in a nearby village (Reulbach) and wanted to see what the area looked like in FTX Global. I am also using UTX Europe and SceneryTech Europe landclass. I have to say I am very impressed with the results!

Some pictures I have taken from my most recent visit show what the area looks like:

The Wasserkuppe is the highest peak and main tourist attraction of the area. It has a small airstrip mainly used for gliders. Here are some pictures from my most recent visit:

Yes great photos mate. Very good!

So far I've been very impressed with FTX Global. I did a flight from Nice to Geneva and it looked stunning.

I have a question about My Traffic Pro 5.4 please? After doing some reading and looking at some vids. I'm I right in saying that you still have to buy the "My Traffic Live" to get the actual live Dep/Arr for Gatwick?(or what ever airport you at). If you don't buy the the live update what do you choose then?

Thank you!

MyTraffic 5.4b has realistic schedules (You can download the 5.4c update from their simflight forum which now adds 2013 traffic schedules). If a Ryanair is scheduled to land at Stansted at 13:05 on a Tuesday it will land at that time and day in the sim. It will not take into account delays or cancellations.

MyTraffic 5.4b is required for MyTraffic Live to work. In theory when using MyTraffic Live if there is a real life delay, cancellation or diversion it will be represented in the sim. However, it only includes the "bigger airlines in the US, Europe, Japan and Australia" but does not list which airlines are included. You also have to pay a subscription and have to buy it every six months and there are no refunds. The only reviews I could find are two from simMarket and they have both given it a 1 star rating.

If you don't buy the live update then just MyTraffic 5.4b alone will be fine: http://secure.simmarket.com/mytraffic-x-professional-5.4-b.phtml

If you fly to/from a major airport such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Schiphol or Frankfurt-Main, depending on the time of day and date you will have many planes taxiing around, queuing up for takeoff, approaching and landing. I do not fly online or use Vatsim so I am not sure how problematic this could be.

Thanks for explaining all that. It makes much more sense! Do you have the Live updates, is it worth it?

I'm still in two minds about buying it, just because of Vatsim. In the mean time, I did find this and it has 3 very good reviews. It is the Lite version but I don't think you can add the Live update to it?

No problem! I do not personally use the Live update. I think it is quite bad that they don't list which airlines it works with and as it is quite out of date things might have changed since it came out. The poor reviews don't help it either.

Another idea you could try is to use World of AI. It is free and you would be able to test if AI packages work well with Vatsim or not. As all traffic addons work in the same way, if the free WOAI works then you can look into purchasing a payware addon and if it doesn't work then you didn't have to spend any money.
You can try downloading from WOAI and installing around 10 or so of the main airlines that populate Gatwick to see what departures and arrivals are like when using Vatsim. Each airline has realistic schedules, but some of them are older than others.

You can find WOAI here: http://www.world-of-ai.com/allpackages.php

If everything works fine with Vatsim you could download more airlines from WOAI and just use that for free, or purchase a traffic addon.

If you would want to use the Live update it is only compatible with MyTraffic 5.4b.

I'm not sure if the Lite version has been updated or not, but since it was released in 2009 I would think that the schedules would be out of date from 2008/9 and the textures will not be as good as more recent updates. It also has a limited amount of airlines compared to the other addons, so the sky and some airports might be quite empty.

Another one to look into is Ultimate Traffic 2. This one is continually updated with schedules (although you have to pay a small fee). The downside however is that it does not handle military and cargo flights very well.

If you just want to see real airlines at airports and in the sky then you can't go wrong with MT5.4b, MT2013, UT2 and WOAI.

I don't think AI and VATSIM together is a good idea, if you're cleared to takeoff and there is an AI on short finals what are you going to do? The controller will not be impressed if you sit there for 2 mins while his got other planes queuing up behind you or one he has on finals and needs you up quickly. In FS9 the pilot clients disabled AI traffic automatically and I believe it was a technical issue why that feature doesn't work in FSX. FSInn was never updated to support FSX, SB had an update but I don't know whether they fixed this.

Edit: AI will, if enabled, work while on VATSIM. I remember querying a controller when a 747 came over the top of me after I'd been cleared to land at Cardiff. Very embarrassed I was when I realised the problem.
