The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Dappo, those shots are immense!

Also, I thought FSINN removed AI traffic when you connected to Vatsim.

Or, maybe there's a setting somewhere that does this.

Using Squawkbox 4 and AI just got removed when connected to Vatsim! :o

Blue when we flying again mate? I'm on now, just going on a little shopping trip to Dubai! :D

Dappo....very impressive pics there mate...muckos kudos.

Have almost all you have listed there with exception of the Europe Land class which I feel I may be purchasing when I get home later

Is it possible for you to let us know what your system setting and sliders are at for this? Feel free to email through trust if needed

Cheers

Thank you very much!

My system specs are:

i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz
8GB 1600 RAM
ASUS DirectCUII GTX 670
FSX installed on its own 1TB Samsung F3 HDD

When I take screenshots I have all sliders on max and bloom checked. Depending on the scenario I will increase traffic, cars and boats to higher levels. If I was to fly like this I get around 10-15fps at a busy airport and around 22fps at cruise when using the NGX or Airbus X Extended.

Nvidia Inspector settings:
0sd.jpg
My FSX settings:
MpJYn.jpg

9BAaj.jpg
These are the only FSX.cfg edits I use:

affinity mask=14
wideview=true
texturemaxload=4096
highmemfix=1
bpools=0
LOD=6.5

These are the REX textures I am using for these pictures:
REX Natural Dawn, REX Natural Day/ Bold and REX Natural Dusk/ Golden Desert [OD].

I am also using the Natural ENBPlus from the REX forums:
http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.co...opic/14771-natural-enbplus-download-included/

For the sunset and dawn photos I am using these custom textures from a thread on AVSim although I cannot find the thread now: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q6amad16zyl3b1y/Sky-Textures-for-ENB-Series.rar - Note that whenever you update your REX textures it will overwrite these.

I use the sceneryconfigeditor which allows you to activate and deactivate airports and areas from outside FSX. You can get the SceneryConfigEditor here: http://fs-sceditor.sourceforge.net/index.html

I am also using Flusifix which lets you edit your FSX.cfg and it also has some performance tweaks: http://www.wolfgang-picheta.de/

However, when I am just flying without wanting to take screenshots I use these settings:
hkr3K.jpg

HV9rt.jpg

ysM0N.jpg

With these settings I get between 15-20fps in Orbx regions and big airports and 30fps with dips to 27-28fps when in cruise with the NGX or Airbus X Extended.

I have no idea why I had it set to that, thanks for pointing it out! I've just gone and changed it now.

edit - I was playing around with DX10 mode then went back to DX9, maybe that caused it to revert to that?

It could have done as some other settings get reverted in the fsx.cfg as soon as you touch the graphics settings in the UI (TML if I remember correctly).

Dappo what Monitor do you use please? My settings are pretty much exactly the same as yours. I think you use the ENB mods a bit more and my sliders are not as high as yours(I know you said they are high for photos)

Going to try the Flusifix and see what that does. Also in the Scenery Config Editor do you disable the base packs? What would you disable if you were flying to say Gatwick to Majorca?

Only one issue I'm having with FTX Global is the night lights? Doing a flight now from Edinburgh to Heathrow and I don't see much lighting at all. I did disable the lighting setting in UTX Europe. :confused:

My monitor is a LG Flatron E2770V-BF.

You want to keep the default scenery and terrain plus all the base packs on. I disabled the Berlin, Edwards_AFB, Reno etc entries.

If I was flying from Gatwick (using UK2000) to Majorca (Aerosoft) I would turn off every single other airport. I would turn off all landclass except for Europe, any global mesh besides Europe and I would have all UTX Europe entries on plus the AerosoftAFD at the top.

The order of the only only entries I would have ticked on would be:

-AerosoftAFD
-UK2000 Gatwick Xtreme
-UK2000 Common Library
-Aerosoft Mallorca
-All FTX EU England entries
-Any FTX Global entries
-Landclass addon (SceneryTech Europe for me)
-All UTX Europe entries
-MyTraffic
-Mesh Addon (FS Global 2010 for me)
-All base packs
-Default scenery
-Default terrain

By removing all the unneeded and unseen scenery it will improve the loading time a bit and help free up VAS e.g: it stops the sim loading complex airports you are flying over into the VAS which for me has decreased OOMs.
For example, when I had everything activated and would fly from London Stansted to Paderborn-Lippstadt, my flight plan took me right over Amsterdam Schiphol. This loaded the whole detailed airport and traffic into the VAS and would lead to lag and OOM's near the end of the flight. Since I deactivated the scenery its now smooth and I can easily complete the flight.

I have found that if you have the autogen slider set to max or very dense you will see a lot of lights, but on dense or normal where there is not as much autogen there will not be many lights. I do not believe Orbx have added highway lights yet so you will only see them in cities, towns or villages. Thats why I keep both UTX and Global lights on as I think they compliment eachother until Orbx patch in their own highway lights.

Mate once again thank you for your prompt reply and very detailed post. Very much appreciated.

The flight I was just doing I got a OOM :mad::mad: always bloody Heathrow!! lol I don't even have my UK2000 Heathrow installed.

Your list makes a lot of sense. I fly with everything on :rolleyes: but will start turning off things I don't need! I guess you turn off things like Australia, Africa, Eastern Europe etc (if you not flying to them or over them?)

Wanted to ask(or anybody who is running FTX Global) do you have two settings in your library? OpenLC_Europe1 and OpenLC_base??

Will switch my lights back on in UTX.

No problem, I'm always happy to try and help! :)

Since I have had Orbx EU England installed when I depart from Gatwick or London City I always get an OOM within a few minutes. Only when I put my settings right down can I fly in and around London.
Stansted is also my favourite UK airport to fly into but I dread and ignore it when I get given the runway 4 approach as it takes me too close to EGLC and London. I think for me most of the problem is all the AI traffic from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and London City in the area plus the Orbx autogen makes FSX want to explode. :/

Although the SceneryConfigEditor will help, I think London might just be one of those areas like Frankfurt, with Frankfurt-Main, Hahn and Egelsbach and a lot of autogen so close together that only really lowering settings will make it flyable. It is always worse when you have to fly into these areas.

I have kept all the continents ticked on for now as I like to have FSX keep all of its base world active although I am sure it would work as well if just Western Europe was selected.

FTX Global added OpenLC_Europe1 and OpenLC_base for me too. I think they are the OpenLC demo entries for the small area in Eastern Europe they included.

Time before last time I flew into Gatwick on Vatsim and I got an OOM on final. I was miffed.

Last time I flew in Gatwick, I put the sliders down. It was an awful landing, no OOM, but < 5fps. That was a dire experience too..

Just a shame to hear that even at > 4Ghz you are still battling these issues. Roll on P3D V2.0 to hopefully fix this.

With 8 cores on 1 PC for FSX and 4 on another for the ancillaries, my room heats up like a sauna when I'm simming.

Also, V, I tuned into your flight yesterday.. All looked calm and controlled in the 747's cockpit.

Dappo - Cheers for all that. Will have to do some in depth reading and inwardly digest over the weekend.

Decided that I will go for a complete re-install of mall my stuff as it was a bit messy and, to my surprise, was not where I thought I had installed it. Have a 120 Gb SSD that was labelled up as FSX, yet the install was sat on my 3TB media / junk drive :eek:

Have copied all my add ons onto a USB3 external drive and will go through the steps listed on the PMDG website and get a fresh install on the go...oh how I look forward to that :p

Ah cheers mate. To be honest it got a bit boring :p by the time I got to the middle east it was dark and I couldn't see a thing! With it been a desert I couldn't even see some lights below! :)

As I said on a earlier post the only OOM I get is when I fly into Heathrow and the strange thing is I don't have my UK2000 airport even installed. I also have some issues at London City. Gatwick is fine always get around 15/20.

Not tried Stansted for a while now. Will do a flight into there later!

Some great shots in the past few pages, I'm still taking a break from flight simming at the moment (doing some train simming and other games whenever I get time on the PC atm). But I do look forward to coming back as there will be plenty of new things to try out.

Also, this -> http://oculusriftreview.com/ will definitely get me back to simming. Check out the 2nd article on War and Thunder. Lets hope either FSX or P3D will add native support for this, especially when they bring out the 1080p version and higher/better screen resolutions in the future. That is the proper way to fly sim!

Enjoy your flying boys.

Yeah! I've just ordered my ticket..

See you there!

It's 1hr 50 mins from Swindon BUT, if I somehow go from 0 hours to passing a PPL, I could fly up from Kemble to save some time?
