The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I see Steve Parson's DX10 fixer is finally out but I think he's missed a trick. At ~£20 it's a considered purchase, had it been a tenner or less I think loads of people would buy it more on a whim.

But he admits it's not perfect, still get grey textures over night and there are some screenshots on the Orbx forum showing glowing fences. For me it's too much to gamble, I'll sit tight and see what appears on the forums etc. I'd agree that if it was perfect £20 is probably reasonable but £20 is twice what I paid for my copy of FSX Gold!

When he gets it working 100% I will gladly hand over my 20 quid, until then I will keep an eye on this!

Finally got this....at last!

Working my way through the beginner missions to start with, what mods would you recommend for a beginner (that dont cost much lol)?

thanks

Can anyone suggest a good noob guide or tutorial for me?

I started off by only using keyboard and mouse, then quickly moved to my xbox controller which i found much easier to use. However when I let go of the analogue stick my plane seems to nose dive every time, can only presume the calibration is off but I cant seem to fix it. So im going to get a joystick today and hopefully this will make things much better/easier.

Another thing im hoping I can fix is when inside the plane if I have my camera viewing my cockpit controls (rpm, altimeter, airspeed etc), I can only see a very small amount of the windscreen at the top of my screen, is there a way to view all my dials and actually see where I am going as well? (im sure its something really simple and im just been a noob lol)

You need to trim the plane for level flight, it's not the controller. I think there is an early training mission built in to FSX that shows this.

You can change your seat position up and down, ctrl-enter and ctrl-backspace (from memory) and you can zoom in out out (+/-) to help get a view you like.

Have a look through the controller options in the menus to see what keys/buttons are what.

Here are some nice free HD Sky and Cloud textures. These textures for Pablo Diaz are by far the most popular freeware sky/cloud addons...IMO they are better than some payware textures too.

These textures will give you FSX skies a much more "luxurious" feel if you know what I mean

Download link is in the green bar

http://www.avsimrus.com/f/fsx-effects-and-addons-85/an-adapted-version-of-the-clouds-and-sky-from-pablo-diaz-high-definition-environment-v2-0-from-fs2004-to-fsx-32752.html

This free scenery covers all of Holland and is regarded as the finest freeware scenery ever created for FSX, so much so the ORBX have said that they will not develop payware Netherlands scenery because this stuff is so good

Take a while to download all the files but its worth it

version 4.04 is the current one, they are working on v4.05 so keep an eye out for the update

ORBX also do some freeware scenery, gives you a taste of what their stuff is like (very very good).

Especially download Tipella (CBB7) and practice water landing circuits with the FSX default Grumman Goose (or download the HD version from OZX : http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/633-ozx-grumman-goose-hd-redux-120/ )

Some freeware photoscenery of various parts of the USA if you feel like exploring distant lands :D

Again huge download sizes due to the quality of the scenery

Some excellent freeware military jets here..I thoroughly recommend Dinos' T-45 Goshawk...bloody brilliant

Yeah you need to get a joystick pronto...I wouldnt even waste your time trying to fly with keyboard or xbox controller it will only annoy you

This default key map is quite handy

http://www.mutleyshangar.com/downloads/FSX%20Keyboard%20Commands%20Pamphlet.pdf

And a "noob" guide here for the default Bravo Mooney and 737

You have a 2d cockpit and a 3d view for all the default planes. In 3d mode you should be able to zoom in and out of the view controls. Press spacebar and move the mouse to look around.

As for the trim, look out for the trim wheel in the Cessna. There will be a setting for t/o or take off. When you're at say, 3000 feet, then you need to re trim to stay at that altitude with out touching the elevator, use the trimwheel.

Keep asking questions and as ever if you want to chat on Mumble about anything FSX, let me know.

Thanks guys, really appreciate it.

I have printed off the key map so Im not fumbling around like a fool and im going to grab a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GC-002-LG today, saw someone had recommended it as a good starter stick?

I will deffo take you up on the offer of a chat bluetronic, things are much easier over voice, I will do all the starter stuff first though so Im not a total noob :-)

Logitech 3D is a great stick

I think £20 just just about reasonable and will happily pay for it too when its finished. Admittedly i've not really looked into it in much detail but is this a complete package per se so no other tweaks required as i really dont want to mess with my well optimized dx9 setup!??
