The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I don't have any real fram rate issues to speak of apart from flying a helicopter around central London with the Orbx scenery & every slider maxed.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit
Core I5 3570K @ 4.4GHz
Radeon HD7950
8GB RAM
All on an Asus P8Z77-V Motherboard

It will be fine for about 5 minutes, then a glitch will shoot out of the ground & it gets rapidly worse until I can't even see where i'm flying.

I'll play with the settings some more.

Sounds like classic FSX VAS...also referred to as OOM (out of memory), basically you are asking too much from FSX within its 32bit constraints.

It's a combined 3Gb limit for system ram and video ram

Greatly reduce or switch off AI traffic / cars / ships

Disable light bloom within FSX

Run water at x1 High (no higher)

Ease back on the autogen density and scenery complexity

Honestly it will not look much different but will run SO much better, you certainly have the system for a good FSX experience; its all about finding the balance

I think it's solved! I've had my F35 lightning II cruising over north yorkshire now for 15 mins at 7500 feet and the terrain has not yet exploded into a jumbled mess! :D

Thanks!

Take heed, I installed the beta Radeon drivers and FSX stopped working.

I went back to the previous version and everything was fine.

Sunday daytime looks flexible if anyone want to fly. I know V is on holiday, so happy to fly with anyone else.

Glad you sorted it out mate.

Yes flying with Thomson tomorrow. Hoping to fly the 787. I think they mainly using them for their American and Greece routes(I'm going to Majorca).

I should be around but can let you know for sure tomorrow. That is is you can put up with a noob :D

I tried out my stick very quickly last night...OMG what a difference it makes, so much easier to control than using a pad! I still manage to be short of the runway and hit the tree's every time but I feel much more comfortable with the stick.

Think I need to read up on landing decents etc.....

ok im think im getting the hang of things now, I feel like im improving with every flight.

Can someone suggest a good plane to stick to so I can get used to it and that I will be able to use on VATSIM. One that you guys feel is the easiest to get me going would be geat. I also dont mind having to buy the plane if I need to.

That's good to hear.

The default Cessna is more than enough to get you going on Vatsim. For VFR flying, stick to that and get familiar with Vatsim procedures. Then I like the Lancair Legacy, the BN2 Islander, the Cessna 152 (google:Free Cessna 152), and the Baron and default Caravan is good fun too.

Are you a member on Vatsim yet?

For IFR, you can't go wrong with a PMDG or iFly 737. A huge learning curve, but the rewards are amaze-balls.

 FSS has UK Orbx VFR airports for < £9

Thanks mate, i think its a good idea to keep to the Cessna for now, least I can get the hang of things then hopefully move up :D

I have not registered on Vatsim yet, going to do it after this post.

I have looked at the orbx airports, have I got it right, its £8.84 per airport??? Also it looks like I need Orbx FTX EU England???

Thanks

I didn't think you needed ORBX England, but I'm sure someone will clarify.

If you get a VATSIM userid and password, then have a go at setting up FSinn or Squawkbox. I use FSinn.

I have registered on Vatsim, cant find where to change my password though

I never got asked for a aircraft registration either

You'll put your aircraft reg into FSInn.. You can change it depending on what you're flying.

Your password should be numeric? You shouldn't need to change it straight away.

Ah ok, the registration email said I could change it but no worries.

Im going to get the free Cessna 152, I look at the BN2 and Legacy but they are both £30 ish and think I would be better spending my money on airports/scenery atm?

I love the BN Islander. Its a step up from the default aircraft but without the complex systems of something like the PMDG JS41. It's a sort of "jump in and fly" aircraft which is great for me as I usually don't have much more than an hours flying time. Anyway the reason I mention it is that Flight1 have it on special at the moment. Once you add in the postage costs (offer is for DVD only - but does ship from UK) it works out about £15.

Now you're getting up to speed, just hold off a little. I think you can buy too much. :p See what you enjoy doing and then concentrate on making that better.

So much to buy:-
Weather engines
Textures
Ground / airport scenery
Planes
Flight Planners
etc..
