The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I have download some orbx freeware scenery to try it out, i unzipped and ran the application but nothing seems to have changed. Is there a guide somewhere please?

I go to scenery library and the top one Is addon scenery and its enabled. Do I then need to click edit and find something?

Usually after installing an orbx product you should have an entry like these FTX ones in your scenery library

Nothing with FTX in your library??

nope nothing like that mate.

It goes through the install process then I start FSX and its not there. I can see the file in the FSK folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_AA_CEJ4

Do I need to install anything else to get these working?

Maybe you need to install the Orbx libraries, this should also give you FTX Central - this a control panel for all installed orbx products

Ok thanks, will try that and let you know how it goes.

I hope it doesnt matter if I have FSX accelerated or not?

FSX Acceleration is virtually identical to FSX SP2 but it came with a few more default aircraft and extended support for helicopter flight dynamics

Only reason I have Acceleration installed is because I bought the Harrier from Razbam, due to it being a VTOL jet it required the extra code included with Acceleration for helicopter and VTOL flight models

Orbx's little English GA airfields didn't sell very well;

I've got nearly all the Orbx stuff for Oceania and North America but I have the GenX photo scenery for the UK. I know bits of the UK and when I flew a friend's system with Orbx England it was just not recognisable. Where are the white horses for VFR navigation? (one example of many) Each to their own as I know many around here would rather have a rough representation with 3D buildings.

JV is actively curtailing any discussion on the Orbx forum WRT supporting their airports with photo scenery. Their loss. That's probably £100 they've lost from me and I'm know of lots of others with the same opinion.

I used to think the same but to be honest they are completely different products and its unfair to compare them directly

I was a long time advocate of GenX VFR scenery, but after using Orbx UK scenery I couldn't go back to the flatness of photoscenery.

Anything under 5000ft and it really doesn't look right, especially in towns and cities.

Plus the blurries with photoscenery due to the complexity of it used to really annoy me, haven't noticed blurries since switching to orbx ftx regions

I would only recommend GenX scenery to the hardcore VFR simmers

I can do Sunday late morning or afternoon. Let me know when's good for you.

You'll need to download and install Plan-G and Mumble Voice Client. And if you've got Vatsim working, all the better.

Thanks mate, Im still working on getting a pass from the wife, she seems to think sundays are for decorating atm lol

I will get plan g and vatsim stuff installed tonight when I get the little one to bed.

Any issue with the pass and I will let you know, should know either way by tonight :D

Well decorating didn't happen but I have managed to move all the furniture from the front room to the back room and vice versa. This means mean pc (which was in the back room) is now in the spare bedroom upstairs! Sounds bad but on the plus side I will now have a man cave all for myself and my pc ;-)

Gonna take me a few days to get it sorted so I won't be able to make tomorrow I'm afraid, gutted mate and sorry to let you down!!!!
