Can ye point me in the direction of forum with a discussion of budget pc builds for FS2010/FSX etc.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18484988

The general overview is that FSX runs best on the fasted single core CPU with an NVidia GPU. An SSD will be worthwhile as will Win 7 64 Bit and plenty of RAM.

FSX will then benefit from tweaks that are your personal preference. I.e you can't expect all sliders to the right to perform 100% of the time. Nor tweaks for another hardware build that improve their FPS. And if you're flying a Cessna around the default scenery, a lower-end PC will suffice. Likewise, flying the PMDG 777 in Heathrow with 60% AI traffic will be a strain.

However, a multi core CPU will help if you're running software outside FSX, e.g mapping software and weather engines.

I don't mean to rain on a parade, but what a gig...

Flying in a full size sim for charity; If I also had female cabin crew tending to my needs also for charity, I'd be a very happy man indeed.

I thought I'd have a play on FSX. Downloaded the Ekranoplan and had some fun times in Anchorage :)

My framerate dropped to less than ten here so I ditched AA, not that it helped.

I didn't really give it a good go and still haven't given it a good go yet(too much battlefield 4 :p)

But when I did have a play, I just didn't see anything that looked that exciting . The roads , the shoreline, rivers etc just looked like any other Orbx addon.

Good to know, guess i'll give it a whirl and make my own verdict then. Just itching to get home to try the throttles out tbh :p. Sunday cant come fast enough!

Nice shots! I've just placed an order for a new system (i7 4770K @4.4, GTX 780 Superclocked, SSD) with a view of running FSX much better than my current system!

Will be good to finally try the PMDG 737NGX even though I'm very late to the party!

I've been at it again, for someone who doesn't really enjoy FSX I'm quite enjoying FSX!

I downloaded a "PBY-5A" and had a good time flying around Anchorage again.

Being the child that I am, I raced off to meet that ferry in the distance.

About 3.5 hours on a TAP callsign, borrowing the Emirates 777-200.

Nice mate, u ever thought about streaming your flights so us noobs can pick up some tips?

Some nice pics there stew, you actually fly more than me and I love fsx lol

If you're into VFR, there's a guy called Peter Matthess who has posted 3 or 4 VATSIM flights on Youtube (just search his name). As he says himself, he's just starting out and there are plenty of mistakes - but its intended to give you the confidence to give it a go yourself. I've always thought of VATSIM as a step too far and very daunting, but am having second thoughts - certainly adds a new challenge to flying.

When you have FSUIPC, there's a courtesy 'bleep' to let you know when you're running out of memory. I started to hear this bleep in the 777 near Cardiff. I think streaming my flights would push my PC over. :D

Vuvuzela streams his flights on Twitch TV from time to time.

And also, 'back in the day', me and Vuvuzela have spent time learning, sweating, passing tips onto eachother and we can both say that when you've got a high-fidelity plane, 3rd party airports and scenery and are on Vatsim, then the immersion is fantastic. And we can also agree that we learn a little bit more everytime we log on.

On my flight today, I didn't realise my Comms weren't working in the PMDG 777. There was a 'mic' switch on the Pedestal that needs to be enabled. The Eurocontoller pinged me a message to contact him. I pinged one back saying I'm having difficulty and he said 'contact me when you can'.

The London controller on this evening got a bit terse when I missed an instruction, but his workload was extremely high and you've just got to let it go. He logged off shortly after.

Tomorrow, I can give 2 hours to noobs;), 10am - 12pm. If you Mumble voice client, log on and I can help with whatever questions you may have. Except VNAV descents in the Dash8 Q400. Stupid thing.

So on my tutorial flight this morning, this is what's been done:-

I logged onto Vattastic to see who's online. Bristol GND was. There was no ATIS to listen to. Winds were calm so Runway 27 was in use.

Here I am in PlanG:-

PlanGV3AtBristol.PNG

Always be off the runway before logging into Vatsim:-

StartAtGAParking.PNG

And give yourself and know your callsign before logging on:-

FSInnSetNameBeforeGoingOnline.PNG

Next we put ourselves a flight plan together in PlanG. Bristol to Liverpool. It can be copied from here:-

http://www.andrewreader.com/ocuk/MyFlight/VFR%20Bristol%20to%20Liverpool_OCUK.plg

And looks like this:-

PlanGFlightPlan.PNG

Now copy all into the FSInn Flight Plan:-

Now you can communicate Bristol 'GND'. On to the next post :)
