The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

In the Vatsim hierarchy not all positions will be logged on at the same time. Air Traffic Controllers need to pass exams to control. You start at the bottom which is a Ground service and work your way up to a London (all UK) controlling position.

If Bristol was fully manned:-
You would initially listen to ATIS to gauge runway in use, weather conditions and other important information.
A ground service (GND) will be your first point of contact for flight clearance, engine start, taxi.
A Tower controller (TWR) will be your next point of contact for entering the runway and taking off.
A Radar controller (APP) will be the controller of the 'Zone' around the airfield.
There is a little bit more to it, but that's the basics.

Now, if APP was online and none of the other positions, APP would control those other positions. TWR can do GND and GND can only do a GND service.

On my flight, GND was on. The transcript went like this:-

[G-REWY] Golf Romeo Echo Whisky Yankee is a Cessna 172 with no information at GA Parking. Request radio check and engine start.
[GND] Golf Romeo Echo Whisky Yankee; radio strength 5, engine start aproved.
[G-REWY] Engine start approved. Golf Romeo Echo Whisky Yankee.

After my checks, I'm ready to taxi:-
[G-REWY] Golf Romeo Echo Whisky Yankee request taxi
[GND] Golf Whisky Yankee, taxi holding point Juliet X-Ray, QNH 1017
(When the controller shortens your name, you can do the same)
[G-REWY] Golf Whisky Yankee; taxi holding point Juliet X-Ray on the QNH 1017

Off you tootle to the the holding point and hold there.

[G-REWY] Golf Whisky Yankee is ready to copy clearance.
[GND] Golf Whisky Yankee roger.
[GND] Golf Whisky Yankee. After departure, fly the runway heading, initial altitude 6000 ft, right turn to Brecon, squawk 5050.

If you don't understand, ask. :)

[G-REWY] After departure, fly the runway heading, initial altitude 6000 ft, right turn to Brecon. Say again squawk.

[GND] Golf Whisky Yankee squawk fife-zero-fife-zero.
[G-REWY] Squawk 5050 Golf Whisky Yankee.
[GND] Readback correct.

[G-REWY] Golf Whisky Yankee is ready for departure.
[GND] Golf Whisky Yankee roger. No further ATC available. Monitor Unicom on 122.80.
[G-REWY] Going to unicom 122.80. Thank you for your service. Golf Whisky Yankee.

At this point I tuned my Com1 radio to Unicom and sent a message: EGGD, entering rw27. Departing north.

And off I went.

WooHoo!!! :D

http://airdailyx.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/lockheed-martin-prepar3d-v20-imminent.html#more

With P3D 2.0 properly utilizing quad core cpu's and modern DX11 GPU's I think it'll finally be time to uninstall FSX --- (dare I say it) never to be reinstalled again.

RIP FSX, you served us well

With this new sim in mind I have started a P3D 2.0 thread on OCUK

Also just ordered one of these http://www.volairsim.com/Photos.php

Simpit project commencing early next year, building a brand new rig and P3D 2.0 at the center of the action; this will also double up as my cockpit for Star Citizen....my inner child has never been so excited :D Good times!!

The problem with P3D is that it doesn't come with an entertainment license, and probably never will.

I see how great P3d v2.0 is but unless there is an entertainment license then I don't think it will overtake FSX.

The lack of entertainment license hasn't stopped simmers buying current P3D it in their thousands and 3rd party developers supporting the current platform.

REX / EzDok Camera / Aerosoft / Orbx / OpusFSX / Carenado / Milviz / Razbam / FSDreamteam / Flightbeam / Iris / UK2000 / RealAir / Qualitywings (Bae146)

The VAST majority of addons from all the above developers work just fine in P3D - and to be honest (from my point of view) 99.9% of my addons are from these aforementioned developers.

It may be a bit controversial but PMDG aircraft can also be "hacked" to run just fine in P3D..although you wont get any tech support from them on P3D.

When all the pro's and con's are balanced up I think that P3D 2.0 will prove to be a winner for us simmers

Sorry for posting this twice but I really cannot think of a better way to express myself, now even more so!!!

This sums up my reaction perfectly...

I would like to install the plans that come with FS2004, which i have a copy of, but i'm not sure how, or if it is possible to, copy the planes over. I know that 2004 and fsx planes have some cross compatibility, but has anyone done this before?

I was going to organise a VFR XMAS OCUK FSX virtual fly-In.

The destination will be East Midlands (EGNX) to pick up some virtual xmas presents from OCUK HQ. It will be flown at some point on a weekend between now and xmas.

It will be flown on Vatsim. Using the default Cessna 172 or Caravan. It will be 2 hour flight. Beginners are welcome.

I can prepare a Plan-G route and .PDF flight log for us to use.

Is anyone interested?

I would like to give it a try and I'll be very much a beginner (on VATSIM) so I hope you guys are patient

I've got a VATSIM ID but I know I need to setup either FSInn or Squawkbox does it matter which?

I think I would also need to setup Mumble for chat outside of VATSIM? I'll do a search because I'm pretty sure you have posted server details etc before.

So after a minor PC melt down (Geforce experience bloat-ware wiped a lot of my C: drive!) recently I have everything up and running again albeit I've put FSX on my spinner drive this time. It takes a little longer to load but plays really smoothly so I'm very happy as it was always a little jerky before. Maybe it is due to the settings / tweaks I've used this time. I've the REX Natural ENB installed, here is a screenshot of what my sim looks like.

9lw6.jpg

I put that image into some editing software and had a play and quite like the results but have no idea how I'd tweak the ENB ini file to get it to look like this. Has anyone else had a play with the ini file and come up with decent results?

The edited shot.

Edit: Realised I hadn't altered my image software settings and it has compressed the images rather a lot but you get the idea.

Cheers
Paul

That's great to hear! And plenty of patience and support will be given.

You can use FSInn or Squawkbox. There's good support for both. I use FSInn so can help with that. I think Vuvuzela uses SB.

The Mumble details are here somewhere. My free setup only gives me 5 concurrent users, so depending on confirmed flyers, I may need to add more.

I've now got a draft flight plan together and will post a final one by this weekend.

Edit: Gixer, those shots look really good!

I was thinking things like the Vickers, Ford Tri Motor, Spirit of St Louis, Wright Flyer. The more what I'd call 'interesting' ones.

Better FSX equivalent? As in Downloadable?

There's a good .PDF Here:-

http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/freeflight/Pages/ImportingAircraftintoFSX.aspx

There's this Ford Tri Motor for a reasonable 6 USD:-

And some classics here:-

Thanks Blue. The first one is as is with REX Natural ENB but the second has been altered a little in PSP. I was wondering if anyone would know which ENB settings in the ini file would need adjusting to try and make my sim look like the edited screenshot? From what I've read you need to be pretty careful what and by how much you adjust things in the ENB ini file.
