The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

nope thats not normal mate, I can fly an ILS approach all the way down with the q400.

Are you stabilized? I find that any significant change to my configuration upsets the aircraft and can knock it out of approach mode quite easily

I joined FlyUK early this week, seem ok so far but they are very relaxed with their rules etc. Only done one flight so far but it went fine.

Thanks. Yeah just flew into Belfast City, much better, flew me right down to the runway threshold. Made sure I had Vapp and Vref much more stable with flaps 35 on approach. Just flew my first VA flight with them, (signed up today), I think I quite like the relaxed atmosphere there and plenty of choice with routes and destinations.

It's all good mate no worries.

Ah good stuff. Yes tonight should be OK. I also signed up for FlyUK. Very impressed. I like how it generates your Vatsim flight plan and it has loads of downloads too. The only thing I don't like is that you are restricted to what you can fly early on.

Anyway did a flight from London City to Blackpool in the ATR which was good. Had ATC all the way up.

excellent,

I want to start one of the tours for flyUK as that should get our hours up nice and quickly.

I should be around for about 8ish tonight, I will jump on mumble

Which ATR did you use? I think they have a freeware model on their site. You're also allowed to fly the Dash 8 on the ATR routes. Like the idea of tours as well.

Bought myself an X52 Pro beforce xmas and only tried it for the first time last night on my old copy of FSX. Makes such a difference over a 360 gamepad :o

Going to try and pick up a copy of FSX Gold for the acceleration add-on and maybe get onto a leisurely flight with some of you chaps!

I use the Flight1 ATR. I only really have it loaded because FedEx virtual use it still on a lot of flights.

Didn't know you could use the Dash on the ATR routes? Cheers, good to know.

yip picked you up on the map. Nice route.

Vienna to Barcelona is a great route too.

MrRoper(anyone) I'm around for a quick flight and then back later again to do some more?

Well done mate, you really need to get a headset and get online with us, more than happy to help you out with setting her up etc.

Its strange you get less performance as q400 is the best performing plane I have. I get 30 locked at all times

The autopilot Is quite simple in these planes, remember that there is no auto throttle so its easy to lose track of your speed and get into trouble.

Myself and vuvuzela had a good flight from Sydney to Melbourne in the 737`s last night. WE both had to hold as some ass%ole jumped in front of us in a md-11, as usual FSX threw up its usual list of odd errors and strange events! :)

I'm pretty much there with the startup procedure now and getting something basic into the FMS. Pretty much just where I fly from and to but that is good enough at the moment. I had my first play with the autopilot today, I thought I'd just play without reading the instructions. The speed thing caught me out, I got into a totally horrendous stall and even though I was at 12k feet no amount of full nose down, full throttle would get me out of it, yes AP was off.

I couldn't work out how to set say 15000feet and fly to that height and hold, I used the VS to gain alt then simply held the alt when I reached my desired alt. Second flight I kept an eye on the speed and it was much smoother. Landings could still be a little smoother, I'll just continue to hand out the extra cushions to sit on to the passengers :D

Rudimentary internet from home! Woo!

Anyway, Use the 'alt wheel' to select 15000 ft on the PFD. Then click on IAS and use the vertical dial to select the climb speed, eg 170 kts (also shown on the PFD). Then click 'Alt Sel', so those words are displayed on the PFD.

Then when you engage AP, the plane should climb to 15000 ft at 170 kts. Keep an eye on Alt Sel being displayed, otherwise the plane will keep climbing through.
