The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Myself and vuvuzela had an 'interesting' flight to sydney in the q400`s lastnight. The least said about it the better :S

I have just joined FlyUK virtual as well, tried to get into Qantas Vuvuzela, but they are full :(

Not very good at all! I'm back to bouncing again :p

I did another flight from Düsseldorf into London City and it was a lot better but again, my landing was poor. I blame the wind :o

Keep an eye on Qantas. I know they open it every so often.

Flying to norway tonight in the 737 if anyone is up for it?

Depends what time mate. Will try.

Nice shots Dappo!

Well as of yet I've not made it off the ground in the Q400. I will keep at it. I got to the point where I needed to set the rpm levers, two of them, but for some reason I cannot move them using the mouse pointer and mouse wheel so I'm a little stuck. I'll have to take a read online as to why this is at some point. Unless anyone on here has had this issue? I only have a Saitek X52 pro so no throttle quadrant controls with prop trim. I did try using the key assignment but they didnt seem to work either.

Work your way through the manual, I know it's a bit long but very detailed. It does take a lot of learning the Q400. I've written my own quick and dirty (but pretty accurate) checklists so if I were you I'd do the same. The FMC is pretty simple thankfully and I picked that up okay. I've got an X52 (non-pro) and didn't have that issue, mouse clicking the levers worked fine for me). You could try mapping a key (either on the keyboard or joystick) to simulate prop rpm in FSX controls. Just completed a short hop from Cardiff to Glasgow on it, bit of hectic ils approach in windy and cloudy conditions using opus. Just relieved to complete a flight and not have and OOM crash tbh!

Gixer, give us a shout if you need a hand when you are online, im normally about.

Here is my favorite screenshot so far

very nice.

Anyone flying tonight? (Sorry !bluetonic!) :P

Yes I'm about mate. I've moved myself back to Sydney with Qantas so we can fly in Oz, or we can do some VFR around PNW or UK really don't mind.

MrRoper that 3hr vid on the Q400. Whitakerjl(Twitch guy) he was in that workshop. So you can see why he is so clued up on that plane.

I've also setup my camera views now in Opusfsx. They are fantastic.

An Aus trip sounds good, will allow you to get some hours in :) have a look at some nice routes if you get chance?

ah yes, it was a good stream that.. watched most of it, he was very professional! :S

I notice how in some videos people move around the virtual cockpit very easily. Unless I go to the menu at the top and choose a different view I cannot move from the pilots seat. I remember back in the FS2004 days people used a piece of software to move around but I cannot remember its name. Is it addon software that people are using in FSX to move about the virtual cockpit so easily?

Home time, hoping I'll get to try and nail that rpm lever position issue this evening.

Track Ir was another one on my Christmas list but I think I got lucky to get the pedals! That one might have to wait a bit sadly. Thanks for the EZ-dock link, that looks like a cheaper alternative that may have to suffice for now.

Have my prop controls sorted, mapped to an axis and all working just fine. Now to learn how to program this FMS instrument and what is required to simply get me airborne at the moment.

Thanks for all the tips. I managed to get airborne last night, fly a circuit at EGHI and land. This is the first plane I've ever had to play with aileron trim! I must say it wasn't the smoothest of flights, much more practice needed. My FPS weren't that briliant either, it seemed to be running at 20 on the nose where as I usually run at 30 (Which I have it locked at) with the spec pc in my Sig. I did install VC with wing view, which I've read is pretty pointless without TrackIr, so I might un-install and reinstall without that option to see if that helps the FPS situation out. I just find it odd it is exactly 20 on the nose and staying there, almost like it is limited.

Next on the list is to learn the autopilot controls.

One question, you cannot extend the spoilers whilst in flight on the dash 8, is that correct? Upon landing they did extend and they retracted when I flicked the spoiler switch from flight to taxi. I just wondered if they should be able to extend whilst in flight?

Well done Gixer. :)

FPS for the Dash 8 should be good. They've created an external thingy that works outside of FSX to increase FPS and model dynamics.

I love EZ-Dok for views around the cockpit and external views. There are alternatives.

With EZ-Dok, you could press a key combo to animate your view from Pilot Seat to the overhead console. And then from there to the FMC and back again.

It's a little difficult to initially work with, but well worth it in the long run. I don't own TIR.

The spoilers on the Dash 8 aren't meant to be deployed in flight. Being a turbo prop, it should slow down easily or throttle back and lift the nose up to expedite your slow down.

It took me ages to the learn the Flight 1 ATR and the autopilot controls were familiar when transitioning to the Dash-8. But in a nutshell:

Set your Altitude and then you ascend to that altitude using the speed dial.

E.g Altitude set for 6000 ft. Speed set to 170 kts. And Heading set for the runway heading.

Engage AP before you reach that speed and 'Alt Sel' should take you up to 6000 ft.
