The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Just did a cool flight from the capital of Lesotho Farnborough in a Vulcan, with an unnecessary pit stop in Cairo. Was a very nice flight and I used the ATC windows asking for a parking bay and finding out the refueling command etc. Also learned that there is bugger all to look at in the Sahara desert!

are you back on FSX mate? how has p3d been?

The shots above are P3Dv2 mate - just got Drzewiecki Designs' New York so thought I'd post a few shots as I don't recall ever seeing any in the thread.

I did re-install FSX for a few days over my Christmas holidays as I was having compatibility issues with Sim720's Oban, Inverness and Stornoway in P3Dv2 - but after flying in P3Dv2 I just couldn't go back to FSX full time.
The HDR lighting, shadows and smoothness / FPS have spoiled me :D

Orbx have converted FTX Global and FTX Vector to P3Dv2 and the re-worked FTX regions are expected to start coming out soon.

Also Lockheed Martin are releasing the first patch for Prepar3dV2 before the end of January - the bug fix list is very impressive. They've even managed to fix the FSX engine stuttering bug.
Check it out here - http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=4373

If I'm honest for a large part of these first 2 months with Prepar3D v2 I've felt like an unpaid Beta tester - there have been lots of bugs and compatibility issues but to their credit the LM dev team are really on the ball with the support - its such a novelty to see my sim platform being actively supported by the dev team.

On a side note gents, with the announcement from Microsoft that the Games for Windows Live servers will be closing down sometime this year we will lose the ability to activate FSX after installing it!!

So if you ever have to format your drive or your FSX install gets broken you will be up the creek without a paddle!!!

Choices will be either turn to piracy scene to get a crack of some sort or jump onto P3D or X-Plane

A pretty rubbish situation for FSX'ers to be honest - but with Microsoft firing the Aces team and closing down game activation servers its looking like spelling the end for FSX (from them anyway)

Been keeping a quiet eye on that myself, apparently Aerosoft have halted all work on P3D2 conversion until after this patch has been released. I waonder how many other devs have done the same?

My FSX key has only been able to activate by phone for a long time now, very tedious and frustrating. I eventually resorted to the 'other' way of activating as its a LOT easier. Easy to find in places you might expect to find it so its not all doom and gloom for FSX.

edit: Thinking about it, would phone activation still work after GFWL shuts down?

Just had an earth simulations email. Seems their promise of a full 3d UK from so long ago is coming soon!

Some WIP screenshots: link

Accompanying extract from the email:

What's in store next from ES

Full UK in 3D

We have in progress at the moment highly accurate 3D coverage for the whole UK. That means trees, houses (with a huge variety of brand new improved night and day textures), industrial buildings, churches, pylons, wind farms, street lights, and even birds and soundscapes. This product is being created primarily as a whole UK product for the professional market, but we don't want our home based flight sim enthusiast friends to miss out, so as each area is completed we will be making it available to you first at a much reduced cost for your entertainment purposes.

We also have in progress new 30 cm colour enhanced Professional Photographic Scenery for the whole UK. No more washed out colours or ugly lines, just seamless, stunningly vibrant, realistic Photo scenery that's just as beautiful as the real world.

We are very aware that most of our home entertainment users will indeed already own Gen X, so with that in mind we have split the coverage areas of the new products to fit the boundaries of your existing photo scenery volumes and areas.

So reinstalling FSX etc, anything I should be downloading that makes the vanilla game much better?

Enjoy doing the missions but wouldn't mind flying with some folks too.

OK so a couple of basic shots to show the difference between FSX vanilla and FTX Global.
both are FL100 above Jerez in Spain same day just slightly different time of day. This doesn't really do FTXG justice but the improvement over FSX Vanilla is amazing and I haven't even bought a new mesh or FTX Vector yet!

Redstar,

If you want to fly in one area get one of the FTX regions (UK, AUS etc) and then when you can afford it buy FTX Global. This will give you a good update for textures.

Then buy Rex for textures and ASN for weather :)

I have just bought one of these!!! :S I really should stop browsing the internet, its not good for you when you are an impulse buyer!! :S

Between you and me (And the forum!) I have a cunning plan to build a "Generic" sim pit, one that can be used for all aircraft types.

The plan at the moment is to have a touch screen overhead, 3 generic central displays for flight instruments and a 180" wrap around view.

Its all going to take time, but it will be something for me to get my teeth into and enjoy...:s

FTX Global certainly seems to make a visual difference. Looks about £50... sound about right?

Anyone ever used addon missions?
