The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Hey flight simmers. I've been playing Flight Simulator 95 all the way up to FSX. I want to get back in it but I want some expansions to better my experience. I'll probably get Ultimate Traffic 2 as they (bizzarely) say that your frame rate is reduced even after an increase in traffic.

Any other add-ons you would reccomend that wouldn't be too much of a struggle for my computer? I'm partically looking for generic scenery packs. Or is that just not gonna happen with my specs?

3Ghz Core 2 Duo
4gb RAM
GTX 8800 2.5gb
Win 7 x64

Not sugar coating it: you're going to need a bit more cpu grunt to run any traffic at all. If you overclock your chip you should be okay to run some decent scenery, but AI traffic is a huge hit even with UT2. I'd shave off all ground and sea traffic, maybe leave a tiny bit of GA and airline going to make it a bit more realistic. For scenery, I can highly recommend the ORBX sets, or for freeware, NL2000v4 is beautiful but will be a bit much for your cpu unless you spend some time tweaking your setup.

Been a little while since I posted but here is a compilation I made showing 15 of my personal favorite wing views screen shots. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I did in making them.

Anyone else running out of patience waiting for the 737 NGX from PMDG? Is this thing ever going to get released?!

Used to check their site on a regular basis in the vain hope it had been released.

Can't say I bother all that much now, after the "Coming 2010" message on their site, only for it to change back to "Coming Soon" when the end of 2010 approached.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightist if this becomes the first release payware aircraft for Microsoft Flight.

Which scenery add ons are you using there dude?

Devrij is correct in his statement, the excellent NL2000v4.

Other sceneries (airports) I used are Flytampa's TNCM, UK2000 Birmingham & Heathrow.

I have recently been enjoying flying a few freighters in FSX while admiring the view of both the scenery and planes. Some great new HD liveries were added to my hangar recently with the likes of PMDG's MD-11 & LDS 767, all cargo liveries. The 5th World airlines addition for the MD-11 and a 1st release for the LDS 767 from the talented chaps at McPhat all in glorious HD quality paints. It also gave me a chance to enjoy my latest airports addition from FTX and a bit of freeware scenery from Blue Sky Scenery. And lets not forget REX2.0 overdrive, another important ingredient to increase the viewing pleasure within FS.

So please let me share with you a few captured moments of my times with the freighters:

Might have to buy this or play a demo as it looks good :D

Only problem is i only have ever played flight unlimited 2 demo many years ago lol.

After that only been on ww2 fighter sims and this looks like it might hard to master :)

Just tested the demo and the game don't use any of my cpu :( I have amd 955 @3.6 +5870 +4gig 1600mhz ram

And no matter what gpu settings it's always 15-20 fps :(

Well that's a serious fail first post lol.

As for the demo, I don't think it includes SP2, which helps with multithreading (a bit). There's a fair amount of tweaking to get it running right, but once you what what effects what it's easy enough.

I am thinking of buying this but have a few questions. I have no intention of running any sort of traffic on the simulation:

I have a quad core I7 clocked to 4GHZ, 1 ATI 5850 and 6GB RAM.

1) What decent priced joystick? I want one with a switch or button thing that allows me to move the view on the screen especially external aircraft. I had this once on a Microsoft joystick. Not to fussed if the joystick as thrust level or not. Price around £50 max.

2) Should I get REX 2.0 and FSglobal? I have heard problems with FS global, and it is pricey.

3) Any good freeware textures or graphics enhancements that are good without buying REX. I will be flying mainly; UK, USA and St Marteen area.

4) How are POAKY aircraft rated these days. Used them for previous Flight Sims, but not seen to much mentioned of them these days on here, just wondered if there are better alternative liveries or aircraft models.

Thanks.
