The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I use it but with Win 7 and I have no problems, if you google "ezdoc windows 8" you'll find a whlole host of people who've had problems but have got it working with Win 8.
Good luck it's certainly worth the effort and money

I do have windows 7 also. Been having look around on the net and people haven't really found a way get it working right.
I know it means reinstalling everything for a new os but it will be all fresh and hopefully work without any problems.

When you said it wouldn't run, do you mean at all or you can't get the studio to appear?

Could do with a large amount of help guys. I've been tasked with setting up an awesome FSX sim.

I want the (relative) works. Rudder pedals, not sure on a control column/civil airliner sort of control(probably a column) throttle/airbrake etc. levers, would like some sort of radio frequency setter (all it needs to do is change the number, not actually have an effect on ingame radio chatter)

Could anyone help me out from PC specs, up to any extra software (possibly thinking of some software i've seen where it tracks your head movement and moves the camera simultaneously) through to peripherals.

Finally, if we were to have a projector for example, would it be possible to have separate monitor(s) which show the cockpit instruments?

P.S Really finally. Is there a way of having a seperate PC connected over the network which could show navigational instruments or a radar which tracks the sim in real-time?

Great pictures above. Nice work Brian.

As for the 'awesome fsx sim', as we've all found out, there is no end to spending money on this hobby.

Google 'GoFlight' for a relative starting point.
The GoFlight - Ultimate ATP System may meet most of your requirements.

The latest i5 or i7, 2GB GPU, Large capacity SSDs, 8 - 16 GB of RAM.
Remember that FSX is only a 32 bit program, but loves CPU Clock speed.
Track IR - track your head movement

Yes you can.

You can connect FSX to a networked setup via WideFS.

If Overclockers can't help with the above, then get 'PC Pilot' magazine for the classifieds.

Might also be worth mentioning that P3D is starting to provide that beyond FSX experience. Those cloud shadows work really well and most of the time the existing FSX scenery works fine and for the Orbx stuff it will in time. My GoFlight/Saitek stuff all work fine. If you did go P3D (or X-plane) expect to have to get a much better GFX card. I've just installed a 780 Ti and P3D maxes out the 3GB of memory and will make the card 100% busy according to NVidia Inspector! I couldn't afford a Titan.

Managed to get a Trail of Active Sky for 7 days - Loving the addon :)

If anyone can advise on a Joystick/Yoke that would be suitable that would be great - my CH Yoke as Died :(

thanks for all this :) How do you get cockpit instruments on the screens yet have projector for the outside world so to speak. What inputs would they each need, (currently projector is through RGB but new pc would have HDMI output )

In FSX, you can 'undock' views.

Press ']' to bring up a new window. Change the view. Drag it onto the 2nd monitor.

To get those windows appearing next time in that place, I think you have to 'save flight' and then 'load flight' next time.

I believe you just set it up as if it were multiple monitors and then drag the instruments onto the respective screen. As far as the PC is concerned the projector is just another Monitor.

A lot of peripherals we already have, such as rudder pedals, control column, switch board thing, throttle quadrant, having had a dig around. This flight sim is something that has apparently been happening for the best part of 10 years

EDIT: Been looking at getting Track IR, which would work well with a projector, however, would it mess up if we had cockpit instruments on a separate screen? Would it also move the view on that screen? Or is there some way to 'lock' sort of thing?

Are there any good alternatives to EFASS? I'm quite sick of it crashing and half the time pulling FSX down with it so I wouldn't mind spending a few quid for a good alternative. I like that with EFASS I tell it the aircraft, departure and arrival airport and it generates me a full flightplan with SID/STARS, exports it to the correct directory in the correct format (PMDG for example), tells me how much fuel to use, gives me charts and has a live map by connecting to FSX, but the crashing is just too much. Does anything else have this functionality, EFB for example?

Also, another quite specific question which I'm not really expecting any answer for, does anyone have experience using Racing Pedals as a rudder in FSX? I use G25 pedals but connected through a Leo Bodnar box rather than through the wheel (G25 wheel is long dead), but this doesn't have the ability to put the throttle and the brake on the same axis which seems to be required with FSX. Have had a dig around in FSUIPC but couldn't see a way either.

Cheers.

it's not the view that moves it's the camera (if that makes sense)

.

Like you I have the same problem but I'm also sick and tired of the dev not answering any support questions unless they're related to the Weather add-on that he's now included which I don't need! Last time he disappeared
off the scene for two months and then came back with a bang but started adding all this other stuff without fixing the bugs in the flight planner. EFB can do some of the EFASS stuff but is more expensive. However their support I think is more reliable
