The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I have a rather odd situation after my re-install of FSX. I have my new SSD installed so set about installing FSX. Once complete I noticed that the load menu appears very quickly now but when I click on the change buttons to select aircraft or change airport it doesn't make a click sound. FSX status changes to not responding. I wait 15seconds or so and it then comes back and all works perfectly.

This annoyed me however so I uninstalled and started afresh testing after each addon. It appears that ORBX is what is causing the issue. Without any regions activated my menu works straight away no issues at all. As soon as I activate PNW or UK then I have to wait for half a minute or so until I can use the menu properly. I didn't have this issue before so I'm a little confused.

One other thing I have noticed is that on clicking 'default' in FTX central the UK returns to normal but the PNW area doesn't. If I load a flight at KSEA with default selected it hasn't reverted back to the original terrain mesh.

Anyone had any issues like this with their ORBX? I never had issues before but then with my old setup things didn't load as quickly, as in the menu didn't come up as quick.

And thanks to that question Shrek I just worked out what my issue was in my post before. Whilst I've got my sim running really well I forgot to add the line

DisablePreload=1

Might try that bufferpools=0 tomorrow. Might have been worth upgrading to old GTX480 after all. Can't complain at all with how smooth the sim is currently but if there is more performance to be had it may as well be had :D

MS did distribute Flight via Steam. For me Flight failed, for the traditional MS flight simmer, because you couldn't fly where you wanted and they were effectively locking out all the 3rd party stuff. I couldn't use my old FSX addons either but if the next gen was good enough that is less of a problem for me.

No idea what Dovetail's attitude to 3rd party content will be but Just Trains and Aerosoft do add-ons for Train Simulator that are independent of Dovetail and Steam.

I know they did, hence the question! Why sell it to somebody just to put it back on steam again?

MS always said that MS flight was targeting the more friendlier simmer and not the hardcore simmer who is looking for hardcore addons etc. They wanted to try attract more people into flight simming with out spending much money and user-friendly planes.

I thought MS flight was great. Put many hrs into it. Was a nice change from FSX when you just wanted to do some casual missions.

Read the reviews about Dovetail and Train Sim community. Doesn't paint such a pretty picture.

Oh yes and don't think they going to give us a new 64 bit sim. As I said, it will be MS Flight with some new content( IMO anyway)

A favourite of mine :)

Hi guys,

I've ordered myself some GoFlight hardware - so I'm gonna be selling my now redundant Saitek panels - the Multi panel (autopilot one) and the switch panel (one with landing gear lever)

If any simmers in this thread are interested feel free to PM in the next few days before I advertise elsewhere

Cheers

Hello All,

I've been on holiday, so I'm just catching up on the forums.

I went on a road trip from Swindon to North Yorkshire with my wife.

On Saturday, we stayed near Manchester. On the Sunday, I've always wanted to go to the viewing area at EGCC. And it was by sheer coincidence, they had a big event on there. There were classic cars also and static aircraft to view, including a Trident.

So not only did I see an Emirates A380 land, I saw numerous other aircraft, I saw G-BOAC, the Concorde and met Kris Thomson from Vatsim; Manchester Radar and tower were online for the event.

It was more models than simulators, but still very good.

And then the lodge that my wife had booked was under the SID for Leeds/Bradford. So I saw a regular run of Ryanair, Jet2, FlyBe on their departure, whilst sitting in a hot tub. I thought Chaders might look down and wave.

I have got some pictures to upload.

On another note, I was running out of room on my SSD, having bought Isle Of Man, so I've upgraded that.

Royal International Air Tattoo for me tomorrow.

There's no F-35 Lightning II, but a ton of other things I can't wait to see.

It's been a while but I went for a little flight from Dublin to Southampton in a Bristol Britannia.

I definitely have a bit of a thing for old quad prop airliners :/

Re the Dovetail (DTG) acquisition of FSX. At present I understand it is purely as distributor though possibly with minor code fixes. What their long term intentions are remains to be seen, also how their plans with the Steam version will interface with the many thousands of DVD version owners.

My experience with DTG as a Train Simulator/Railworks user is that they are increasingly a commercially orientated company - selling DLC is king and their prime income source. The quality varies and they do tend to have a fire and forget policy when it comes to fixing bugs or other issues (including the core product).

The company was born out of Maxis/Kuju becoming a spin off and there appears to be more than a little sniff of EA there too.
