The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Stupid question but is prepar3d available to buy? Iv been on the site and it seems is all licences?

You never bought FSX, just a license, and you'll probably find that's true for 99%+ of the software you use. P3D is not really any different to FSX except

1 - It's only available via download
2 - It can't be used for entertainment purposes or you're in breach of the license.

The P3D license seems to be a cause of much debate but they run no checks as to see if you qualify for whatever license you purchase.

I don't understand to be honest.

Just buy the Academic license for $59.95.

Once you've registered your account you can download the relevant installer at which point you will have to enter your license key to activate your P3D (same as any other software with license key)

Ignore all the hype and paranoia on the various forums regarding P3Dv2 licenses - I've been running P3D v2 on an academic license since it was launched and haven't had any issues whatsoever, even getting official developer support on the Lockheed forums was a breeze.

I did start a P3Dv2 thread but it kinda died out, I do keep an eye on it so if you've any questions post in there and I'll gladly try to help

Like all software you are only buying a license to use it. Officially you never own it.
I personally don't have Prepar3d as I'm happy with FSX and have too much invested in it to jump ship plus I've read mixed reviews.

updated version of Majestic Software's Dash 8 Q400 PILOT Edition.
Existing users can download a patch for their installation from the Support->User Area section of the majesticsoftware.com website.

The following issues are addressed in this version:

1. Prepar3D V2.2 compatibility
2. New simplified scripting format is introduced 3. Glideslope and DME receivers will add accuracy by using the newly added by Navigraph Glideslope and DME antenna data 4. Numerous performance related fixes 5. FMS airway listing and procedure joining fixes 6. Improved compatibility with multiplayer by using the standard lights assignments for taxi/landing/nav lights

The complete list of changes can be found in the patch readme document, available under Majestic Software Support->User Area

Definitely one of the best "add-ons" I've bought for FSX. Has really helped me get to grips with the plane. They're also quite amusing. The only negative is that they do talk a little fast at times, so need to replay some sections, but no big deal.

Oh this looks interesting are they for beginners?

If not what would you recommend for beginners I did the missions but after a while they go too far ahead. for me ie let's start flying a helicopter or jet after 6 missions (hehe)

Dappo, does FSDT Zurich run ok in P3D v2.2; any scenery or lighting issues?

First shot at the gate is a cracker

Thank you!

FSDT Zurich runs pretty well. In the above shots I was getting around 25fps with cloud shadows and most things set to max.

All lighting and night light textures work.

The only problem I have found with it is that the luggage carts have bright white textures as shown here:

However, it seems that if this airport eventually gets updated it could be fixed.

I'm thinking about purchasing a new addon for FSX. I'm tempted by either the PMDG 737 or PMDG 777. I appreciate that the 737 will have a larger range of airports it can land at but for those who own both addons which out of the two do you prefer and why?

I have the PMDG 777 and the iFly 737.

Unfortunately, it's horses for courses.

I would get the 737. If you've nothing of the type, it will be a huge learning curve, but very rewarding.

But then again, the 777 is sublime and a pinnacle of achievement in FSX. :o

No wait... get the 737.

I agree and get the 737.

But here's a flight from earlier in the T7, Lisbon to Madeira. Mods will be pleased that I've actually bothered to re-size my files this time.

My landing was awful, so there's no pictures of that.

You can see I'm far too high in that last shot.

That 777 does look very nice indeed! I take both have fully functional FMS systems in them?

My most complex aircraft currently is the Dash 8 which I do enjoy flying and partly why I am struggling to decide between the 737 and 777 as the Dash 8 is OK for shorter flights. I will say I'm still not an all out pro though I can get flight plans online and input them into the FMS and fly a pretty realistic flight path. It's only when I get near the the destination I struggle as the FMS must have go around paths in it or something as there are always lines going everywhere. It is a shame PMDG don't do discount for purchasing two off items at the same time.

In Boeing aircraft, the FMS is called the FMC.

http://www.b737.org.uk/fmc.htm

To my knowledge, both the 737 and 777 FMC will put the go-around steps in as part of the 'STAR'.

If you were flying on Vatsim with a tower and radar controller online and you declared a missed approach, they would vector you back around to the ILS.

Thanks Blue. My problem with the Dash 8 and the inputting of the flight plan is I never know which part to delete from the FMS to get me the approach I would like.

I've just been looking at the 737 FMC info you posted a link to. I like the Co Route function. I take that isn't present in the Dash 8? I haven't noticed it myself. I input the route manually each time.

With the iFly, there's a menu extension to load routes. With the 777 (latest update), you can request a route from your saved routes and load it into the FMC.

You shouldn't necessarily need to delete stuff for the approach. You should look at the last waypoint, know which runway is in use and work out the Arrival from there.

Download a demo of Aivlasoft's EFB. This is the software that really helped me. You can't go wrong with it.

Eg. SKERY N862 BHD N864 EXMOR is a flight plan from (Jersey) EGJJ to (Bristol) EGGD.

In the Dash 8 FMC, click the destination, then press Menu. Choose arrival. Choose the runway and then choose the STAR.

In this case, it's a Bristol 2 Delta BRI2D arrival.

As it's the only one from that direction.
