The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

All passengers had disembarked. I was actually trying to impress one of the lovely air hostesses with my flying skills :D

This is me flying with AP off. I get the bank angle warning then the aircraft banks a little more before starting to shudder and it wont bank any further. No knife edge turns can be done in this aircraft for a laugh it seems!

The plane is great. Yes I'm setting the temp in the engine bit to around 58c at the moment so the engines are de-powered on take off. It's a very clever piece of kit this 777 :D

After watching a program on TV last night about pilots flying in Papua into rather interesting remote strips I'd like some decent scenery for FSX for this region. I've found this scenery https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=p...fe_rd=cr&ei=DU30U66xLaWK8Qfbv4CIDg&gws_rd=ssl Though I do not know how good or accurate it is but it sounds interesting.

I'm not sure how many of you in this thread are into flying low and slow (VFR) but if anyone has any recommendations for scenery in this area I'd be interested to hear about them.

2nd question, years ago I had the FSD Pilatus Porter for FS2004. Annoyingly you don't get a free or even reduced price upgrade for FSX though I remember it being a very nice aircraft. I notice that 4X also do a Pilatus porter, anyone here experienced both of these aircraft for a comparison as to which is better for FSX?

You'll never get the T7 into a remote strip.. :D

As for a remote strip plane, I have and recommend the BN2 Islander.

As for scenery, I have no experience of this region, but have plenty of photo-scenery for England and Ireland.

I'm a big fan of the Twin Otter. Would be perfect for some remote landing strips. I use it occasionally with my VA for Scottish Highland trips. Orbx have some freeware mesh for Papua New Guinea but I don't know much about it to be honest. They'll also be releasing an airport package (payware presumably) which has a collection of bush airstrips along with an Intl Airport. Might be worth a look.

I wouldn't even attempt to get a T7 into any of them after watching the program I did last night. It'd be a nightmare flying the approach to them considering the T7 won't let me bank past a certain angle :D

I like the islander, I like the twotter but for these strips, if I can get some decent scenery, I think that the porter is the best all rounder for getting into places like these. Think Lukla but shorter and a runway bodged together by the local tribe members. Remember I have to purchase the PMDG 737 yet too....notice I say 'have' to.....

Granted this is not FS related but given recent posts some of you might find this pretty cool - one hell of an approach into a rural strip! The islander is an incredible little aircraft

Strange as I have ORBX PNW and ORBX UK along with many of their free airports and have no issues. The 737 purchase may have to go on hold if I get the ORBX scenery. The T7 is going to keep me busy in the heavies world for a fair while anyway :D

That's the one I was thinking about. Didn't realise it had already been released. Looks like a nice fun little package but yes you'll need FTX Global for the textures. The way I. Think about Orbx is you have "full fat" scenery such as PNW and England etc then you have global areas such as Vector and FTX Global. Then you'll also have regional so OpenLC sold as continents. Interesting approach and I think it'll work well. So for example I fly mainly regional routes around Europe so have opted to go the full fat Eng/Wal/Scot then the others for Europe. In the future no doubt we'll see full fat Norway and Germany for example but I wouldn't get them I as done need or want them in so much detail. If you do get PNG, get some screenshots up. Would look great with that freeware mesh and FTX Global textures.

I did a quick flight on Vatsim last night.

Bristol to the Isle of Man in the Dash 8.

There wasn't any ATC online that I had to interact with, however I had a successful descent using VNAV which I was quite happy with as it never normally works for me.

I've not even attempted to use VNAV in the Dash 8 yet. More reading to do on that, which I really should do as generally I always manage to descend to early or to steeply.

After spending on ORBX Global and Papua last night I don't think I'll be purchasing anymore aircraft anytime soon. I was a little niggled though as on installing the Papua scenery it stated that if I didn't have ORBX global then I'd miss out on smooth transition of textures from ORBX to default scenery plus a few other things that aren't really important. Damn flightsim store had it worded that you HAD to have ORBX Global when in fact you do not NEED to have it. Oh well, I have it now though would have rather spent that money on a new STOL aircraft.

^Bit of a sly one that! Nevermind. Personally I think FTX Global is astounding. Probably the best stand alone add-on available as it completely changes the sim in both VFR and IFR.

Been installing P3D v2.3 over the last couple of days and all I can say is WOW! So beautiful. Feels like an entirely new platform from FSX. The eye candy is truely immense. Will get some shots of it up later on as I install and test my add ons but I did a quick flight in the A2A C172 and I looked just amazing. Performance isn't too different from FSX mind you and you do get the occasional dip in fps but with the A2A flying out of UK2000 Heathrow with ORBX Eng I was holding a fixed 30fps for the most part with some drops so 22-24 when looking around the VC.

Installed the NGX too on it and it seems to have gone okay. Not done a full flight to test it's systems but initial thoughts were promising.

The VNAV on the Dash 8 isn't too bad I've found. Basically I select "VNAV TO" to my approach altitude fix then stick with the default 1800fpm descent but offset by 5 miles to give me a bit of leverage and flexibility. When Top of Descent approaches hit the VNAV on the MCP and check to see if its armed and you're not getting a VNAV disconnect message. I do find altering the descent when already in it a bit tricky but I don't fly online so I guess I can choose my own descent profile and not have to be rerouted or hit a hold. Also vectoring to final via SIDs is a pain when it seems chooses its own intercept course...but that's another matter!

I still haven't got the P3D bug.

As for X-Plane, I had a read on the AVSim forums, and from the vibe I was getting, it still has faults.

The few PC crashes I have had when using FSX, I've currently put down to pushing my i5 that little bit too far.. So I've gone from 4.52 to 4.5Ghz ..

I've finally got round to configuring FSUIPC and my joystick, and I'm currently setting up the MJ Dash 8 but I cannot figure out what to select to assign the gust lock to a button on my joystick. Any ideas?

I've always used my mouse.

I'll be interested in the answer.

In the meantime, have you tried an FSUIPC mouse macro?

Hey I bought FSUIPC nearly a year ago and I'm only just starting to get it to do my flight controls.....Mouse Macro's that'll probably be next year! :)
I'd also like to put baro STD set onto a button for the Dash but that didn't work either :(

I'm using EZDOK and TracIR and I have to do global disable with EZDOK before the middle mouse button will do the job

haha..

There's an easy to follow YouTube Video on the subject.

Hopefully when the shared cockpit is working for the Dash-8 a few of us can get a flight together.

I've seen videos of the shared cockpit already working but I've never seen how your supposed to achieve it..not that I've got a headset with a mic..I'll have to open a window and shout really loud

There's 3 different versions of the Dash-8. Pilot, Pro, and Training.

Apparently, you can upgrade from one t'other at the price difference.

So it's the Pro and Training versions that have the shared cockpit functionality.
