You know, those long winter nights there's only so many arrows I can get into the gold.

Currently using P3D - As a learning tool, obviously. Also because I cannot lay my hands on my copy of FSX. The perils of tidying.

just on Vatsim.

I've just flown the Dash 8 from Guernsey to Bristol.

I'm now back out of Bristol in the A319 heading towards Dublin.
 
Well I'm just realising that my sims not looking great after it's rest. Have to have a dig through the CFG to see if I can get it looking better.

Saying that, I don't get on here very often any more too but flying loads!!

Just been busy at work and with my little one. Now I'm back in the winter schedule I'm sure to be on the sim a bit more. I've just been playing about with it over the past couple of days but I'll see if my VATSIM account is still active and meet up with you all. Do you still have a voice channel you use?

No one's been flying from here. So it's time to address that.

I'm sure the Mumble server is still active. Let me blow the dust off and have a look.

No of concurrent users: 10 (There's optimism for you.. :p)

I'll get an XMAS Fly-in Plan sorted..
We'll list a few dates when we're all free to fly
Everyone is welcome
You'll need the Mumble voice client, headset/mic and a Vatsim account to fly.
 
I've managed to get the sim looking ok. I always forget the LOD 6.5 has to be re done every time you change the settings (and I change my control config for different types). Just need to check my vatsim account still works if that's where you've been flying. It'll only be short 1-2 hour sessions on an evening though can't really fit in any longer unless it's during the day (when I'm off or on standby)

Batfink, your system is just getting more and more insane. Do you use just the one monitor with it?
 
Bless her she is starting to show her age but she handles anything I throw at her more than comfortably.

Currently have two monitors hooked up but only run FSX on one, the other is more for charts etc.

Was looking at upgrading to a newer gen i7/i5 then read a very interesting thread here on OcUK that has saved me the trouble and approx £500 for similar performance increase.

Batfink, could you point me in the direction of that thread please. I like you have an old gen i7 which still just about holds its own but a little data processing speed boost would be great if possible without updating the mobo / ram combo.

That Christmas fly in, is it a hoplist or would we all fly in to one airport? Yes Blue I could well take the plunge and sign up to vatsim. I finish work for the year on the 7th of December so I've a lot of time to play. That said there are also a few games I plan on purchasing to fill in some time too :D
 
Ideally we all log on at one airport and fly in light aircraft convoy. Do as much as you can or we can break it into legs.

There's nothing to worry about if there is ATC online, as you just listen to and basically repeat what the others in the front of the convoy have just said.

Keeps those free dates coming..
 
Thanks Batfink. The OP in that thread even has the same motherboard as me. I think I'll know what I'll be looking up online when I get home from work today. My CPU is currently my bottleneck so I'm most certainly going to look into this more.

I take with 6 cores we'd need to change the affinity mod so that FSX uses 5 cores and leaves one free. I use affinity=14 currently as I'm quad core, what would I set affinity to with the hexacore CPU? I do get a little nervous about purchasing electrical goods second hand however but at this price it might just be worth it :D I, also like the OP in that thread, only have SATA II but as he states all that means is slightly slower boot times than if I had SATA III so I'm not overly fussed on that.

Blue, that sounds fun, I prefer a hoplist type flight. I'll be free from Dec 7th though may pop to Cardiff to see my g/f on the occasional weekend or she might be down but other than that I'm a free agent.
 
With Affinity Masks, it depends what you're using the rest of your PC for during FSX.

I've got an old 2nd PC to offload the maps, comms and weather, so FSX can have all it wants.

As for the hops, yes, there's 400 nm of routes, with plenty of scope for diversions, so it's hoppable if you want.
