The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

So with the steam version supposedly offering performance improvements I decided to dig out some of my old mods and fly about. CS c130 still looks good and flies great. Took me ages to remember how to start the damn thing though!

The thing I have always found with X-Plane is I don't like the feel of the planes. There is a demo I think so you can try it out. The aerodynamics are supposed to be one of the selling points as it models the air whereas flightsim is just a kind of lookup table. However the X-plane planes don't seem to a max envelope so you can make airliners do things they shouldn't be able to. If you read the forums the general response is that you shouldn't be pushing the envelope anyway so it doesn't matter, however I think it does as clearly there is something wrong with the modelling? My 2p anyway.

Hello All,

I have been simming for a few years and I have been issues recently , my FSX is installed to a 1TB Mechanical Drive,

When flying the Airbus if i go outside to view the skin it will take a few seconds to load the skin , if i jump back into the VC it will take a few seconds to load the panel.. it can also take a few seconds to load the ground texture - for example (on Vatsim) if i want to look at a plane (different airport or in sky) it can take about 2-5 seconds to load Airport Scenery then the planes skin.

Default airports are fine

Other addons i have are FTX Global/Vectors/Open LC - REX 4 TD - ASN

My GFX Card is a 7950 - GPU Screenshot below

Would installing FSX onto an SSD solve this issue?

Full System specs are below

7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5
i5-3570K @ 4.4ghz
8GB Ram

I used to have a similar issue with slow loading textures. I moved my fsx installation to a SSD which sorted the problem however I also did a complete reinstall which may have also had an effect. Have you done a defrag of your fsx drive - I used to use Degraggler which seemed to work better than the default utility.

Now that Blue has mentioned it, I was wondering what people's experience of DX10 is? The payware fixer now appears to address 95% of the issues so perhaps worth a look now. Any thoughts or comments?

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday!

Do you have the affinitymask tweak in your FSX.CFG

I found that a value of 14 or 15 with a quad-core made texture loading much faster.

For the affinity tweak on an i7 CPU i use 14 as that leaves one core for everything else and three for FSX.

As for SSD's I have a Samsung 250 Evo for my OS and FSX and an old vertex 180gb for my other games.

As I've been doing a fair bit of what I class more real world flying recently I decided to kick back a little and take a look for a few nostalgic freeware aircraft. I found a rather nice DH Mosquito and Hawker Hunter trainer and single seat version. I've no pics of the Hawker yet but here are a few I took whilst messing around in the Mosquito earlier. It does feel quite unstable / loose to fly after flying heavies mostly recently

I'm not that great with PSP but here is something I came up with that I quite liked

I downloaded the Defraggler my FSX has 25GB Defragmented Files on the drive - most are FSX files - This could be the reason the textures are loading slow?

It wont be helping your situation out no. This is where an SSD would help. Sure I recall in the days of spinner drives to install your FSX straigth into the route of C:\ in a directory called A and then defrag space then alphabetically so that all your FSX files are nearest the outside of the platter. I'm unsure if this actually did see genuine results but it seemed the norm thing to do. I don't know the ins and outs of how FSX loads files either but everything needs to be as fast as possible. O-clock your CPU to release as much free speed as possible and have a dabble with ram timings to tighten those up too if you can. Your system really should be better than mine I'd have thought though bar your install being on a spinner rather than an SSD.

I will say in complex situations, i.e. lots of weather and flying the PMDG 777 I get a similar thing happen. When you're using a complex addon there is a hell of a lot more going on so load times won't be as fast. Like you anything default and it is instant. I wouldn't worry too much. Have a trawl on the net for Kostas guide / tweaks for FSX and have a play to see if you can get it any better. I think that is the guide peeps on here informed me to use.

MY setup is coming along nicely, just waiting on my Iris Dynamics force feeback yoke to arrive and a couple more Goflight panels for the pedestal and I'm sorted!

My recent acquisitions are the Philips 40" 4K monitor and the CPFlight 737EL MCP panel. EFIS panel is ordered from CP Flight but they are on back order at the moment, should have it sometime in January

Very swish..

I've been trying to reduce my VAS usage after buying Aersoft's Dublin.

With the help of Fiber Accelerator to monitor the VAS and the excellent SceneryConfigEditor to group my sceneries, I think I'm now happy. :p
