The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Right then, having just re-purchased FSX in the Steam sale I now want to buy some add-ons to make it look better starting with REX. Which one should I be buying though? There is Rex Essential Plus, Rex Essential Plus with Overdrive and REX 4 Texture Direct. Which one is best? Any UK based sites to buy from?

Whenever I've tried the DX10 Fixer, it's just created more issues (transparency all over the place, flickering textures) than just sticking to DX9. No major increase in FPS either.

Did you try the freeware DIY solution or the paid for supported product? I'm going to hazard a guess at it's either the former or you are using an AMD card which isn't supported. If I'm wrong then the fixer is highly customisable and may take a little effort to get right for your particular setup though it worked right off the bat for me. Because the product is paid for and supported, as long as you meet the system requirements i.e. NVidia card and can demonstrate that you've read the manual to get the configuration right Steve is happy to personally support the product. Steve's fixer has never been about increasing FPS and he makes no bones about this, some people notice a gain, others don't, it's all down to what hardware and add-ons you're using.

If it's not gonna increase FPS, then I see no point in it. My FSX looks great already.

I think it's a little unfair to criticise a product for not producing results it was never designed for.

I guess bottom line is if you turn on DX10 preview and like the way the way the cockpit, instruments, gauges, shadows etc look then Steve's fixer will help eliminate the bugs in DX10 that make the default preview mode impossible to live with.

I just don't see the point in it. FSX was released before DX10, it's Preview mode was always half baked. Best to leave it that way.

Been working on some repaints of the Overland aircraft recently, here's some shots:

It's a great pack considering the price, and all the aircraft are fairly nice models and fly nicely.

DX10 fixer kept me flying. Solved my OOM errors completely. Now I fly the NGX into UK2000 airports with ORBX England for example. Yes it doesn't help the number of frames per second but then again thats not what it was meant for. Yes fps dips will always be inevitable in demanding scenarios such as the above but at least it won't crash on me.

^nice shots.

I would definitely recommend Orbx Global, OpenLC Europe, Orbx HD Trees and REX to improve the overall look of the sim. Active Sky Next for realsitic looking weather.

Personally I use REX soft clouds and prefer the water textures and animation from REX OD.

If you would like to do night flying I also recommend the Night Environment series from Aerosoft.

Here are some shots from different flights over the last few months:

Folks, just got a few questions, Ive been putting off starting FSX but have now finally sat down to get to it.

Just some questions if I may...

1. Someone here mentioned concerning the default config needed to be changed to make it more playable, what config is this exactly?

2. For those with multi monitor, how do you guys setup FSX to span across multiple monitor? (I tried it via the Nvidia Surround function which seems to work "okish" but would appreciate any further insight).

Many thanks!

That alaska plane shot is ridiculous, is there some Photoshop going on? :P

Edit: Bought REX4 Texture Direct, downloading now, cannot wait!
