The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Excellent screenshots!
The last couple of months I have been using DX10 with Steve's Fixer in FSX:SE as it gives better VAS management and I can use scenery like Aerosoft Heathrow Xtended with AI, high scenery settings and complex aircraft.

Here are some shots from some of my previous flights (All ground textures are FTX Global):

These look insane!

What sort of rig requirements are you looking at to produce the same effects?

Decided to go back to FS9. Just seems more stable to me, and takes up much less space and runs smoother for me. The difference in visuals isn't as drastic for me as I mainly fly IFR airliner flights. Also means I do much longer haul without worrying about the bouncing A/P present in FSX since SP2/Acceleration.

Hard to believe it was made in 2003. Been trying out FSrealWX but it seems quite taxing on my system, especially in the situation above - flying into Taipei in a thunderstorm!

I'm going to give FSX a go with oculus this weekend gents, seeing as theres a new workaround for it.

I'm fully expecting that as with DK2's resolution being in development, any approach will basically be off instruments until the last couple of miles but is there anything else specifically people want me to have a look at?

For anyone interest fsx steam edition is running perfectly well in windows 10 and not noticed any issues with my addons.
Not quite plain sailing here on my laptop with AMD/Intel graphics. Running full screen I can end up with a black screen with just the mouse cursor present. The first time it happened I couldn't alt-tab away nor alt-enter to change from full screen and had to shut windows down (FSX:SE was stuck at 80% loading and was 1st run after upgrading to W10). Subsequent times this black screen has happened I've always been able to alt-enter and see the hidden dialog I was trying to interact with. Awkward but workable.

Performance seems fine though.

Prey tell, what new workaround do you refer to?

I ran FlyInide FSX last night in P3D for an online flight I did with a bunch of other people. Being 'stuck' inside the cockpit makes things much harder. I was flying VFR with no GPS and struggled to find the intermediate airfields until I was quite close. The final field, being a bigger affair, was easy to spot.

We all did overhead joins and flying that final circuit with the other planes above and below in the Rift was sublime.

Roll on better display resolutions and a means to read charts etc inside the rift.

I was referring to FlyInside, first I heard of it was yesterday and.... wow

think this is one of the clearest sims using the rift in my opinion, flying the cessna I had no trouble reading the dials like in DCS, did become harder as predicted with the 737

I love it though, this will definitely be dragging me bnack to fsx for a bit! That was my main reason for giving up on it a bit as I don't have track IR and tend to lose my positioning a lot without head tracking

FlyInside is excellent and the developer has plans to do some quite clever stuff in it. He has some sort of virtual hands and, in conjunction with a leap motion, you'll be able to flip virtual switches.

I flew a C185 last night and could read all the dials by leaning in a bit. It was just hard resolving scenery in the distance due to the low res and no zoom. I often use 'binoculars' in FSX/P3D to see runways etc. 10 miles away and that's using a monitor where I can't see the individual pixels ;)

I've got used to the lack of draw distance in the rift anyway, just means an instrument approach for an extra few miles out, little bit dissapointed I missed the kickstarter as this is what FSX has needed for ages.

What I love most and cant beleive hasn't been done before is the tap to reset position, most games I have to take the headset off, find the key, hover over it while i line my head up and press, this was if absolutely great!

Fellow simmers,

For those of you who fly, or are interested in starting to fly, on the VATSIM network, here's some details about the 9th annual Mid Summer Madness Event which is held at EGBB Birmingham every year.

This is always a great event and it's great to experience the network in all its glory when it's busy. There's also some prizes up for grabs too! Hope to see you flying in and out over the weekend.

VATSIM-UK and Northern RTS proudly present:

Mid Summer Madness 9!

On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of September 2015, Birmingham Airport (EGBB) will host its 9th annual Mid Summer Madness Event. Birmingham Airport will be fully staffed from 1000-1900Z (1100-2000 BST) on both days; from Birmingham Ground, right up to London Control.

Saturday 5th September will see EGBB host a Real-Ops event. All real-world flights departing from and arriving at EGBB between 1000-1900z during a recent Saturday are featured. There's a diverse range of short and medium haul flights all available to book via the links below.

The next day, Sunday 6th September, EGBB will host an Overload Event. Every flight that departed from or arrived at EGBB on a recent Sunday is available to book - even the flights that occurred outside the confines of the event timings. Flights are bookable via the links below and pilots can fly their booked flight at a time of their choosing. As it's an Overload event, there is no requirement to book any flights and you can fly to/from EGBB, to/from anywhere you like, when you like in whatever aircraft you like!

All pilots are cordially invited to take part. You'll see there's hundreds of flights to choose from. Please help us celebrate the 9th anniversary of this fantastic event by flying in and out of Birmingham - the skies are guaranteed to be busy around EGBB on the 5th and 6th of September!

If you can't find a route you'd like to fly, then non-event traffic is also more than welcome on either day. Similarly, if you don't have the aircraft type for your booking, you can fly your route in any aircraft you like.

Pilot Information

The transition altitude at EGBB is 6000 feet. The initial climb on all SIDs at EGBB is 6000 feet. There will be a continuous voice and text ATIS for EGBB; please report the information you have on board upon initial contact with an EGBB controller.

EGBB Charts

Demo/Payware EGBB Scenery for FSX and FS9
Freeware EGBB Scenery for FSX and FS9 is also available from flightsim.com

EGBB has recently had a runway extension so installing addon scenery is recommended. Also, EGBB has seen the introduction of some RNAV SIDs, so having a recent AIRAC cycle installed is also recommended.

Most of your controllers and a few of your fellow pilots will also be sat in the same room, and perhaps enjoying a beer or two! We really hope you can help us make this the best Mid Summer Madness event yet!

Last but certainly by no means least, this year, we've again teamed up with A2A Simulations, UK2000 Scenery, Majestic Software and Flight1 Software. Thanks to the generosity of these companies, we're able to offer the following prizes to pilots who fly in or out of Birmingham during the event weekend:

A2A Simulations - Three products from their store
UK2000 Scenery - Three downloads from Gary's range of products
Majestic Software - A Dash 8 Q400 Pilot Edition
Flight1 Software - Two download keys for their products

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning one of these amazing prizes is to book a flight(s) via the links above and have "MSM9" written in your flight plan remarks. Your flight must be completed whilst connected to the VATSIM network. The more flights you book and fly, the better your chances of winning. Please make sure your email address in the VATSIM-UK Events Hub is valid, as this is the email address I or the software companies will use to contact you if you're a winner. Thanks again to our sponsors who have made this possible. Winners will be selected at random and will be contacted after the event.

We hope to see you there!
