The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I believe Dovetail's new simulator is based on the MS Flight platform. If it comes with a feature set comparable with FSX, ie. the whole world, ga and big jets, full set of nav aids etc. it might make some headway in the market. Would obviously help if old FSX scenery/aircraft could be imported and used.

Sadly, for the majority of people, P3d is only the future if you're prepared to abuse their licensing agreement.

Is X-Plane 10 any good?

I like FSX SE as it works really well with a 360 controller out of the box- no faffing with the controls and reversing rudder triggers etc (as you can tell I play it casually- I only yesterday got round to fiddling with the flight planner after owning FSX since launch!)

Is X-Plane more hardcore and I'd need a flight stick and generally not be as "fun" for generally flying around?

I reckon it'll be more like Train Simulator with regards to DLC, much like they've tried to do already with FSX:SE.
Yes there will be loads of DLC no doubt, but they'd need a market to sell that in to. Dovetail's new game will probably fall flat on its face if they simply take the MS Flight business model. If they however actively encourage others to produce addons (especially not constrained to within Steam) and actively support freeware addons via the Steam Workshop and elsewhere they do stand a chance IMHO

Do any of you guys use SweetFX or the like for these shots?

I don't personally, I have tried it but I couldn't get it to work properly so gave up.

I use 3 mods...

Aerosoft Airbus a319
FTX England
Rex Soft Clouds

I would say the single biggest improvement for me is better scenary. As I fly mainly from the UK I bought FTX England which believe it costs around £15.00.

Same! As in I couldn't get SweetFX working, kept crashing.

Does Rex TD 4 have soft clouds?

Could you post some pics of what you are achieving?

Hey folks, here's a link to yet another amazing aviation video I found, truly remarkable camera footage, superbly edited together and a real joy to watch, well, at least I thought it was. Watch in HD ofc.

Ok guys. I may have posted in here ages ago regarding stuff about this game. Now I have a spare bit of time I have purchased the FSX:SE from steam... Currently downloading now. I have got a new PC and its a bit of a beast, runs GTA5 very well with most things high or full etc. Now I know FSX is hungry for Ram and Gfx etc so hopefully my PC will be ok.

I would like to know what best addons to get. I would prefer scenery addons more so. Makes the game look so much better. I would like UK addons and when I played it a while back I did a few EMA - IBZ runs, it was fun - so any addons to make the Balearic islands look better would be nice.

I also notice nice clouds in the screen shots here. Any good addons for that?

I believe you can get REX TD 4 standalone or you can get it bundled with Soft Clouds.

Here is a quick .gif I put together to show some of the clouds, it looks even more impressive when you fly through them!!

Was clear skies all the way, then very cloudy coming into Marseille. I Had to do a manual landing as the plane was not capturing the glide slope or localiser, I ended up slightly off centre and the landing was a little long but I made it down.

I never knew how to fly IFR (instrument flight rules) until I bought the above Airbus. The Aersoft A319 I have, comes with a really good set of manuals that explain everything you need to know about it, it also comes with a step by step guide that you use as you start up/taxi/fly/land. When it comes to the standard FSX aircraft I have no idea how to navigate with them or use them properly. Google was a massive part of my learning, anything I didn't understand I just searched and learnt small amounts at a time.

I can highly recommend the Aerosoft Airbus A319. Its such a great aircraft and you will learn a massive amount with it.

I'm not very good at explaining things, so sorry if I'm not much help!

Mark

That's perfect, thanks very much Mark.

Incidentally, howabout navigation, radio etc, was this also taught in the Aerosoft A319? (could you link to an example of this pack?)

I have downloaded quite a few POH (Pilot Operating Handbooks) for quite a few aircraft, admittedly in X-Plane, but assuming the same level of detail is in FSX, they can be quite useful.
